over the top cheeriness
nuance-6295713 December 2019
I don't mind Zumbo or Candace like the other reviewers--I appreciated their feedback to the bakers and their clear expertise. On the other hand, Hunter and Liza drove me crazy. Everything they said felt forced and over the top, like they were trying to shove Christmas spirit down our throats. I loved the bakers and the challenges, but I felt a lot of the things added to the show were totally unnecessary.

Very enjoyable...but there are similar shows that I like more.
planktonrules20 November 2020
Each episode of "Sugar Rush Christmas" consists of four teams of two people making various baked items. After each round, one of the pair is eliminated and ultimately, the winners receive $10,000 and the prestige of winning.

I noticed in the review by dan_da_man-60288 that he mentioned this show and essentially said that they enjoy the show but prefer "Nailed It" and its Christmas shows. Well, I strongly agree. While I like "Sugar Rush Christmas", it does lack the fun and whimsy of its competition...and could used a bit of an infusion of silliness and fun. I think much of it is because the judges tend to be more reserved and les goofy as you'd find in "Nailed It" and a few other cooking shows. Overall, a nice cooking show but nothing much more.

Rushed, unsettling, mish mash
hilary_mae-912-8056130 November 2022
Not only do the competitors have to rush like crazed madmen, but apparently so do the cameramen. It's exhausting to watch.

Three of the judges were rather dull, lacking personality and presence and one, Liza Koshy, consistently acts like a 4 year old on too much sugar. When her antics destroyed a competitors desert in Season 1, episode 1, I was appalled. Adriano Zumbo was standing next to her and you could tell he was disgusted, and he felt badly for the bakers. The other two..just stood laughing like fools.

Basically, the bakers have talent, but the show is chaotic and unsupported. I'll watch a little more to see how it goes, but so far......meh.

Just OK
louispeter-230574 December 2020
I watch this when I want a silly distraction. Like the contestants and some of the challenges. Some brilliant creations. What is up with Zumbo, he seems bored, like a little brat sitting at his desk in school. Why so dour? Are you depressed oh privileged one?

Fun competition!
Calicodreamin23 December 2019
Sugar rush Christmas edition is a fun baking competition. The contestants bring new and interesting ideas to the challenges and make some really delicious looking food! The regular and guest judges are fun to watch and have good commentary.

Not as nice as the regular show and still don't like Hunter as a host
Themina19 December 2020
I also don't like the upbeat background music every episode (it's annoying). In every episode all Hunter's lines are the same. For me personally he's just too abrasive to watch, annoying and above all: Not authentic.

The rest of the show is okay. I like the regular Sugar Rush more because i feel like there is more creativity. Literally in every episode of this season there were cupcakes and cakes with peppermint. It gets repetitive, same for christmas colours red and green. Candice and Zumbo are great as always and the interviews are also great to get to know the contestants a little bit better!

I love this show so much
paraviviane10 December 2019
I truly love this show and I am now sad Netflix came out with only a few new episodes. The judges are not the most fun people but they don't really have to be. So fun to watch with my 5 year old. We enjoy everything!!!

Everything its fine but... WHY THE WINNERS OF NORTH POLE EPISODE
nataly_baeza16 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
We see this program at nights with my gf to eat and have something to do. Every episode of season 1 were amazing, on the season 2 we've noticed that the quality of the participants were lower than de previous one, but we really didn't care at the time bc it still being funny. That was until we saw de "North Pole" final cake, were the winners did a basic flavor cake and a "meh" structure, and the second place was for a creative, funny and out of the traditional cakes we've seen on the season. I dont understand why Rachel and Samantha werent the winners!!!!!!

The season 1 was and absolutely amazing, the guest are in general boring, except for Liza and two more.

More of the same, still pretty mediocre.
dan_da_man-602888 December 2019
I just keep end up watching this show when new Nailed It runs out.

This has the same issues as the normal show. Hunter March is funny at times, but Candace and Zumbo could be replaced with cardboard cutouts and nobody would notice a difference. The guest judges are nothing special either, usually just some random from a show nobody's watching on Netflix. The one exception was Liza Koshy, a comedienne who had some legitimately hilarious moments in her episodes. No spoilers, but the "Christmas Spirit" episode is well worth the watch just for her.

The challenges are largely pretty vague, and even for the "Christmas" theme there's very little direction. There's still this false pretense of the contestants not knowing the challenges ahead of time. "Oh I just HAPPENED to have this obscure bottle of blackberry liqueur that's perfect for the theme of this challenge!"

So if you liked the regular version, this isn't worse, it just isn't any better.

Could be better
horvath-zalan3 December 2019
I generally like the idea of this show, like the structure of it. But I don't know how to say this in the nicest possible way, the judges and the host have no personality to carry this show. Whenever they open their mouths it just seemed forced and I honestly don't want to listen to them.

I don't like it
kyrenmcelroy3 September 2020
It was a Terrible show I love baking shows and I love them all but this one I don't recommend. Liza Koshy was the best part of this show. The way the judges bonded was just mediocre and their comedy between one another was just bad.

The Horrific Camera Work Ruins This!
flowerstardust197929 November 2020
This gives me anxiety. The format, camera work, music and chip chopping is completely chaotic and headache inducing. I wanted to watch this but it's utter chaos to watch and not in an exciting way.

I like Cupcake wars, not this.
MidoriAi16 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Don't know why oh why they decided to invite that "dumbo" judge character to stay there (he even has another show!!) He's so hard to watch with that face! The other judge, Candance? is so so slim that you couldn't believe she even eat anything. I guess she goes to the bathroom to spit the one bite she takes out of every cupcake. And I doubt she has the first cupcake store. Muricans like to have "first one" on everything. I bet even in their own country there must be someone with the first one before her.

The host is glucose intolerant!! And I prefer the fist host, Justin Willman.

I prefer the cupcake wars dynamic. It is ridiculous that while judges are deliberating who's going to go home, participants are cooking and they don't know if they're going to be called out of the race!.. I saw one couple that were almost finished when they announced they lose. I also like when the guest has something to do with the event were those final 1k cupcakes are going to be delivered, and of course, the theme in question. User dan_da_man-60288 say that youtuber was funny and the only one that made sense... well, that's the worst guest they invited so far!! I mean, she's so ridiculous, unfunny, cringe worthy, with those "HEEE" that make her look like a male preteen trying to be funny to fit in but being ignored by the older people around. And don't make me start with all those facial expressions she has.. cringe!!!! Or when they present all the participants and a little bit of their story and business... not here.

There isn't that much cupcake in the making here... that's weird!! Agree with user marjoleinbrinkhuis. It was really fast everything!! I want to see cupcakes being thought out and being cooked!

And more...

The more I watched, the more I realized..
crm-4068119 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The judges seem to enjoy the ethnic Christmas dishes the best. That in itself isn't bad, but when they are choosing who stays, it's more based on who used traditional American Christmas flavors and who used ethnic flavors. Just seemed kind of dumb because I noticed the teams chosen to stay/win did not have the better dessert, but won because they were not doing traditional American Christmas flavors and this just became boring. I just don't understand how that should be the basis when this is a show that takes place in America. Doing different flavors is great, I enjoyed watching what they came up with and some sounded super delicious, but I just didn't think it was fair to those who followed the prompt and nailed it on the head yet had "simpler" flavors were sent home when another team didn't even achieve the prompt, their treat was undercooked, but had different flavors so they got to stay. Overall, this just became boring to me and didn't seem like fair ruling. That was my biggest problem. Other than that, the two main judges are just so dry and don't meld well together at all. The host is great, but everything feels very rushed...I guess that's how they got the name for the show.

Sickly, and not the food
philhemstock-1178220 December 2020
Would be an OK show if not for the over the top super sickly American presentation. Great to watch on mute

Disappointing
missalexandrabree5 June 2021
They chose a terrible format for the judging, instead of judging together that are all desperate whenever they are done. Round 2 bakers are half way through before being eliminated from round one.

Over scripted and kitschy, the host is painful to listen to, Candice and Adriano are OK judges on this show, but compared to their past work... subpar is putting it mildly. The guest is completely random (casting whoever has today off)

Overall a poorly executed messy show.

Awful....weird....doesn't work...
brandonklatham24 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I love a competitive baking show but this is just bad. Where to begin?? The judges are BAD. The format is bad....they stand up and talk in some weird alcove area then the host walks down two steps to deliver the news....who stays ..who goes....the music they play while they are baking is so generic and sounds like something they pulled off YouTube last minute or something ...the host is FINE. It's just off.....they tuned the lights off over the losers on one round....they were standing there in the dark talking....it's just dumb. I went to Food Network and watched theirs....sooooo much more interesting....and the judges are like able and have a history in the bizz....
