You love it or you don't

Warning: Spoilers
This season 4 opener posits that if Hillary Clinton won in 2016, there would be no #metoo movement, no arrest of Harvey Weinstein et al. In fact, Harvey could have been awarded the Congressional Medal of Freedom based on this episode! Anyway, the episode is compelling but I look forward to when everyone is back in the office practising law. Still, it's a shame Rose Leslie isn't back for season 4.

Episode 401

Warning: Spoilers
Any hopes of the show not being as political this season quickly went out the window. Still, it was funny, it was entertaining.

Not what we want from a legal drama, but still a good episode.

Was sick of season 3 but this one is brilliant
harineem-209-52548821 January 2024
After an atrocious Season 3 this is a brilliant episode. I have never liked the one-sided track of bashing Trump in earlier episodes. American democracy is not perfect and neither are Democrats. Both parties are equally deplorable and will weigh the same for their faults. Its just they are judged for different reasons.

As someone who felt Hillary was a wrong choice as a nominee, this episode hits the mark. After all the woman turned a blind eye to her husband's escapades and now with Epstein leaks we know it was much more than Monica. And to paint as her some feminist always felt ridiculous.

Hope the Season maintains this quality.

Very clever

I expected to hate this episode but actually loved it. It was a thoughtful treatise on the consequences of elections, both good and bad and also how there is good and bad in every situation. Keep up the good fight.

Outstanding Premiere
RyanCShowers9 April 2020
The Good Fight came back with a bang -- I loved the premiere. It's probably one of the top 5 best Diane-centric episodes ever, but I can see it being controversial and divisive. It's very high concept like "Mind's Eye" from Wife, with the political spin of Fight season 3.

They made me hate the cliffhanger from season 3 a lot less with how they resolved it. The script is flawless; Brooke Kennedy's directing, which is usually hit or miss, is perfectly on key; and it's one of Christine Baranski's very best acting showcases from all 11 seasons.

"The Gang Deals with an Alternate Reality" is clever, poignant, and funny. It's hard to imagine they will be able to top this in the rest of season four. It reminds me of the type of outstanding quality they achieved in the pilot, "Inauguration."

Brilliant!!!

The Good Fight is the best show on television. It's as zeitgeist as it gets. Furiously creative and funny. It is no holds barred. Extremely Political - making fun of both the left and the right. The cast is perfection as is the writing and direction. The show is constant energy with purpose. Sly and witty. A must see from the beginning.

A premiere which bet high, raised the bar and showed high esteem for the viewer's intelligence!
maria-ricci-198314 April 2020
I agree with the remarks of several favorable reviewers here.

For much that I've always loved this show, this premiere astonished me with a fantastic twist in the narrative and lifted the memory left by the third season's finale.

The complexities of the "Possible Conjectural in Politics" are shown through the lenses of an alternate reality (a very clever narrative choice) but with a nuanced and smart turn.

Diane slides from the immediate, emotional, almost childish elation of the political "fanactivist", to a more reflected assessment of the contradictions and costs involved in the protection of the greater good. The dramatic transition from her embrace of the alternate reality to the suspicion of being into a dream, to her waking up marks a high point in the episode!

Old political dilemmas shown through a masterclass of screenwriting and direction with a permanent wink to the viewers' intelligence. I love this show and I celebrate that they have raised the bar with this new season!

Brilliantly done

I think that the people giving this episode bad ratings really missed the point of it. It was wonderfully done and a brilliant commentary.

Here we go

Warning: Spoilers
More boring politics, the show fails to be a good legal drama and has become a political farce. The Winestein case, me two, Hilary and trump and now Diane's activists. I just starting watching this buts its not about the law. Diane micro dosing on acid, fetanal lollipops which is horrible as this drug as killed so many young people. Diane loosing her mind is thiscepisode a druggy dream its an alternative reality. Hillary won and Trump lost why are the writers trying to sneak this on the show , imaging have to quit this, it's nothing like the Good Wife which was a legal drama and the dynamics of the characters.

Political Direction is So Boring
hilhrpr19 March 2021
Agree with reviews below that the Good Fight has gone from a classy legal drama to boring political hectoring. Miss Mia as a character.

This show isn't science fiction
mhorg20185 July 2020
Lame dream Episode because the writers, starting last year, abandoned the law for politics. Want to do politics? Write a different show.

The insane continues...
undonet9 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't get what was the point of this episode... They waisted the whole episode to show alternative reality with Hillary as President. What's the point of that? The show continues to be weird. Lucca's outfits and her wig were truly horrible. They could have shown her real hair, or absence of thereof, might be fun in that reality! Disappointing overall...

Politics instead of fun
micifuca9 April 2020
As soon as I saw Trump, yet another time, I turned off my TV. Just before I go, I want to say that I LOVED the show, all the characters were so fun and interesting, even in The Good Wife when the show was politically biased, I put up with TV brainwashing and followed the plot. Last season was horrible, but I loved the actresses so I watched somehow, hoping that the 4th season would be better. But now it's finally too much. Come on, people.

More lefty nonsense !
mark-9820020 March 2021
Ruined a great show in season 3 with its bitter biased left wing box ticking nonsense , season 4 starts with more of the same . I remember when this was a good must watch drama , sadly those days are long gone !

What a Waste of Time
axel-314-56434817 April 2020
I guess this one of the most controversial episodes regarding personal ratings...

In my opinion the producers wasted an entire episode on bs. For what? This could be the reason to stop watching the show entirely. Let's wait on episode 2 of this season to determine its fate.

You love it or you don't - well I don't
ak202018 March 2021
This opener has just been shown (tonight) here in the UK.

From beginning to end it was political garbage. If I was an American I certainly would not have been a Trump supporter. But mixing Diane's politics into entertainment is disgraceful.

It's possibly why the series has been demoted to a non-mainstram cable channel.

Hopefully, remaining episodes will return the higher quality of earlier series.

An absolute load of bunkum. Really did not hold my attention and nor did I want it to, and fast forwarded to the end. Tripe!
