Sex & Nudity

  • A man and a woman (a married couple) are in bed together.
  • Once or twice a boy is seen in his underwear.
  • A young girl takes off her clothes and crawls in bed next to a boy. They are both stated to be 12 years old; however, no actual nudity is shown, and the scene is both innocent and emotional. They cuddle and fall asleep together.
  • EXPLICIT: The girl changes clothes and a boy spies on her. We see the 12 year old girls genital area completely in full view with a large scar across her skin. She was implied to be a casturated boy before.
  • A boy and a vampire kiss. (See 'Violence & Gore' for more details.)
  • A small reference to masturbation. The words 'jerk off' are used.
  • It's implied that a man has a possible romantic attachment to a young child. He becomes jealous of her friend and asks her to stop seeing him.

Violence & Gore

  • The violence throughout the film is bloody but not very graphic. In one scene three boys are murdered (implied not shown) and afterwards we see a severed arm and head as well as the bloody bodies of the boys. There is quite a lot of blood throughout the film and it can be quite shocking but not explicit of graphic even when there is focus on aftermaths.
  • A man gags a teenager with halothane, hangs him upside-down from a tree and slits his throat (seen from behind), with lots of blood spilling into a bucket. He is interrupted by a dog and flees just before its owners arrive, finding the body.
  • Bullies nick a boy across the face with a horse whip and we see the bloody scratch.
  • A vampire attacks a man and wrestles with him in the snow. She takes a bite out of his neck and begins to drain his blood (with disturbing sound effects). Afterwards, she snaps his neck, killing him. His body twitches violently. We see blood on her face, and later, a man dumps the corpse into a pond.
  • A boy slits his palm and tries to make a blood-brother pact with the vampire, who starts frantically slurping the puddle of blood that he made on the floor.
  • A boy strikes another boy across the face with a large pole and damages his ear. We see blood where the extremity has been split open as a teacher rushes over to help him.
  • The corpse of a man is seen being cut out of an icy pond and hauled onto shore.
  • The vampire attacks a woman and bites her neck, but is kicked off by another man before she could kill her. We see blood on her face.
  • The vampire kills a man who tries to murder her; we hear scuffling behind a closed door and see his bloody hand desperately clutching at the door frame before he dies, leaving blood smeared over the wall. His body is seen afterwards, with blood covering his face and neck.
  • Covered in blood, the vampire walks up to a boy and kisses him, consensually. Blood is seen on the boy's mouth afterwards.

Profanity

  • 'D*mn' is said.
  • 'F*ck' is said five times. However, this might vary depending on the translation and the subtitles. In the UK version (not dubbed, but with theatrical subtitles) there are about three uses.
  • Several uses of religious exclamations, such as 'Christ'.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Some characters smoke and drink alcohol during scenes. This is primarily within a casual manner, although one scene hints at alcoholism.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The ending is both bittersweet and extremely bleak and dark.
  • The scenes of violence are reasonably gory, and the film is coated with suspense.
  • Some scenes can be very emotional, which may distress certain viewers. The ending scene, in the pool, is particularly intense.
  • It should be noted this film deals with the premise of psychological abuse throughout. The main character is a victim of bullying, and keeps a scrapbook detailing popular cases involving serial killers, which he collects from newspaper articles. This is only one example, and the abuse itself involves other characters as well.
