Casting Chris Pratt as Star-Lord was a pretty big gamble for Marvel. After all, to most of us he was the man-child Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation and nothing more. Fortunately for Pratt and the MCU, director James Gunn saw something special in him. While a number of actors also auditioned for the part, one who still remembers that moment and why he didn’t land Peter Quill is Joel Edgerton, who is well aware he just didn’t understand the tone they were going for.
Appearing on The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast (via Variety), Joel Edgerton remembered Guardians of the Galaxy being one of the most high-profile projects he missed out on, probably for good reason. “Star-Lord’s a good one, actually, because I, unlike Chris [Pratt], didn’t quite sort of understand the tone of it the way he did and the way that those guys did. The Guardians of the Galaxy could’ve looked a little different.
In an upcoming episode of The Playlist’s Bingeworthy podcast, Joel Edgerton revealed that he auditioned for the role of Star-Lord, which eventually went to Chris Pratt, in James Gunn’s Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise.
“I, unlike Chris, didn’t quite sort of understand the tone of it the way he did and the way that those guys did,” Edgerton said on the show. “And I wasn’t really sure how I could be a part of that tone. And I truly think that the world is a much better place that I’m not Star-Lord, even if I had the opportunity or I did a good enough audition because it is the way it’s meant to be.”
He continued, “And there was never a real conversation that it would have definitely been me. It was just, I...

Joel Edgerton revealed on The Playlist’s “Bingeworthy” podcast that he failed his audition for Star Lord in “Guardians of the Galaxy” because he just couldn’t nail down the tone writer-director James Gunn was looking for. Chris Pratt ended up getting the career-defining role, which he’d reprise in two “Guardians of the Galaxy” sequels and various other Marvel movies, including “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Marvel Studios' hunt for Star-Lord didn't result in quite as much attention as some other MCU roles. However, the decision to enlist Chris Pratt as the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise's lead generated a lot of discussion among fans.
It didn't take him long to prove James Gunn had made a perfect choice by choosing him to play Star-Lord. However, in an interview with The Playlist, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Dark Matter star Joel Edgerton has left us wondering "What If...?" by revealing he also auditioned to play Peter Quill.

‘Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning On Martha: “I’m Not Doing An Impersonation Of Somebody” [Interview]
There is a lot of discourse about the new limited series “Baby Reindeer.” An utter smash hit for Netflix, the series is an adaption of Richard Gadd‘s stage play, which chronicles Gadd’s real-life experiences with a stalker and sexual assault. Despite Gadd and Netflix’s attempts to do everything possible to disguise or refashion the identities of some of the real-life subjects, there has been unexpected drama over viewers attempting to figure out just who was really who.

The upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine is burdened with the mammoth task of reviving the MCU and Ryan Reynolds is trying his best to do that. It is rumored that the film will feature many prominent characters from the earlier Marvel movies as cameos which will induce cheers in the theatres. However, one of the major characters was out of the equation- Cable.
Josh Brolin as Cable
Josh Brolin gave an interview a few days ago where he stated that he was not asked to reprise his role in the upcoming film. Brolin looked frustrated for not being called to join the MCU. Surprisingly, in the latest interview, the Avengers: Endgame star raised a buzz on the internet when he revealed that Reynolds has recently reached out to him.

Josh Brolin Is More In Love With Cable Than Thanos Reveals Whether He’s Part Of Deadpool & Wolverine Or Not ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
Josh Brolin is one of those actors who has played two Marvel characters and that too in the same year. He appeared as Thanos and Cable in 2018. With Deadpool & Wolverine’s release almost around the corner, several speculations have been made on social media. One of them is Brolin’s return to the MCU, as his name is reportedly listed on IMDb as part of the upcoming movie’s cast.
Deadpool 2 and Avengers: Infinity War were released in 2018, and Brolin was an integral part of both the movies. Now, Marvel has finally acquired the rights to the Fox characters, and as a result, Wade Wilson and Logan are coming home. The possibilities for the makers to include the characters in the movie have increased, courtesy of the multiverse concept.

Deadpool & Wolverine has garnered anticipation ever since Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman released an announcement video where Reynolds would ask a seemingly apathetic Jackman if he’d like to appear in the third Deadpool movie as Wolverine. The two popular X-Men characters would famously have a love/hate relationship in the comic world, and previous Deadpool entries would only feature fourth wall-breaking jabs at each other both inside and outside of the movies. Now that they’re officially capitalizing on their bromance with a multiverse plot which opens up possibilities for more cameos, many fans have been theorizing about who could possibly appear in the film.

One of the biggest upcoming MCU releases is most certainly ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’ The movie marks several big things. It’s Deadpool’s first foray into the MCU and also the only MCU movie to be released in 2024, in the hopes of restoring at least some of the faith that the fans of the franchise lost in the last several years due to a string of several poorly received movies.
The recently released trailer also confirmed that several old faces from the ‘Deadpool’ and Fox’s ‘X-Men’ franchises are going to be making a return, a few faces were however notably missing, Angel Dust, Cable, and Domino.
Most of the fans were aware that Gina Carano likely won’t be reprising her role as the actress was let go due to “offensive” posts made on social media after which she was promptly fired by Disney. But fans were still holding...

As Ryan Reynolds’ highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine prepares to hit the theatres, fans can expect the nostalgic return of Hugh Jackman as the clawed mutant. I never imagined that Denis Villeneueve’s Sicario would become a franchise, but here we are. It’s been six years since the release of the first sequel, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, but the door is still open for Sicario 3.

We could have received another popular cinematic universe if Universal had been successful in kickstarting the Dark Universe. Sadly, 2017’s The Mummy, which was supposed to kickstart the universe involving the classic Universal monsters failed hard and the plans were scrapped. However, the failure was taken very positively by The Mummy director Alex Kurtzman.
Annabelle Wallis and Tom Cruise in a still from The Mummy
Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy, starring Tom Cruise, was a reboot of the classic Mummy franchise and featured a unique take. It was very different from the iconic Brendan Fraser movies most audiences were familiar with. The critics and the audiences bashed the film for several weak points. Despite being such a massive mess, Kurtzman stated that the film taught him a lot.

It’s a good time to be an “Alien” fan. With Fede Álvarez‘s new franchise installment “Alien: Romulus” hitting theaters on August 16, and Noah Hawley‘s TV series for FX on the way next year, a franchise once thought dead is on the cusp of a potentially huge revival. Alvarez’s film already has Ridley Scott‘s and James Cameron‘s respective blessings, but Hawley’s series remains a bit of a mystery.

With the 1995 release of Bad Boys, Will Smith may have achieved a major turning point in his career toward becoming one of the biggest stars in the history of Tinseltown. His performance in the action flick proved that he could manage a large-scale production, which helped him secure roles in other popular 1990s movies such as Independence Day and Men in Black.
However, did you know that Smith took issue with director Michael Bay’s well-known choice to have the actor, now 55, run in a scene while sporting ‘no shirt’? Well, Bay could see he was helping the actor establish him as a real movie star, and the s*x appeal would help him no doubt. And seems the director was absolutely right.
And that’s why Smith has since expressed regret to Bay for the argument in a lighthearted manner.

Marvel may be going through a rough patch lately, but the big film brand still had a few successes in the last year. One of those was the completion of James Gunn‘s trilogy of Space A-holes, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The Guardians were a big part of the MCU’s second phase. It was considered a big risk for the company since they were not a popular name and deemed too unconventional when compared to the other superhero films. Nevertheless, the first movie raised $773.3 million at the box office and made stars of Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista and James Gunn. Fast forward to phase five, Gunn has the Guardians go their separate ways, then proceeds to take his new position as the co-chief of the Dcu.

Zoe Saldaña doesn’t think Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is gone for good. The actress said this week it would be a “huge loss” for the MCU to say goodbye to its ragtag group of intergalactic heroes.

When Quentin Tarantino begins production on his upcoming film “The Movie Critic,” it is expected to mark the fulfillment of his highly publicized pledge to retire after directing 10 movies. Tarantino has long been outspoken about his desire to step away from filmmaking at the top of his game and cited his plan to limit himself to 10 films as a reason he passed on directing an R-rated “Star Trek” movie for Paramount. But while Tarantino’s retirement plans are well-documented, he might not have been the one to come up with the idea.
In an upcoming interview on The Discourse Podcast (via The Playlist), Luc Besson claimed that Tarantino copied his idea to retire after 10 films. While Besson did not stick to the plan, he said that his idea stuck with Tarantino as the “Pulp Fiction” director plotted his career.

Fowler announced the film’s production wrap via Twitter/X with a new photo from the set. In the image, Fowler holds a giant clapper with drawings of the threequel’s primary animated cast, including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow. The latest addition to the cast, Shadow, takes the spotlight on the clapper, while Tails and Knuckles give the anti-hero the stink eye. Meanwhile, Sonic appears unbothered by Shadow’s presence, shrugging off the new player’s prominence. Remember Baz Luhrmann’s early 2000 film about romance and music in Paris? Yes, we are referring to the 2001 release of the jukebox musical Moulin Rouge!, which film critic Roger Ebert once likened to “being trapped on an elevator with the circus”.
In the 2001 flick, we saw English writer Christian (Ewan McGregor) pen his love story on his typewriter as he mourned the loss of his beloved Satine (Nicole Kidman). You may not be aware, though, that multiple actors tried out for the role of Christian but were not selected. Among them were Leonardo DiCaprio, Heath Ledger, and Jake Gyllenhaal; Ethan Hawke was also considered for the part.

During a recent interview with Howard Stern, the Prisoners actor disclosed that he and Ledger were both “disappointed” about losing the role.

Fast & Furious and Star Trek: Beyond director Justin Lin is reportedly among the names sought by Marvel and Sony to direct Spider-Man 4.
Director Justin Lin has plenty of experience when it comes to action and special effects-filled franchises, given he’s made several entries in the Fast & Furious franchise. But he also has form when it comes to taking up the reigns of a film series from a departing director; in 2016, he took took over from JJ Abrams to direct Star Trek: Beyond.
We bring this up because, according to a report from Hollywood industry gossip wizard Jeff Sneider (via The Playlist), Lin is among the directors said to be ‘in contention’ to take over the Spider-Man franchise. The rumour goes that Lin has joined Drew Goddard, who made the cult horror Cabin In The Woods, as a potential director for what we’ll call Spider-Man 4 for now.

While some strides have been made in recent years, pay inequity in Hollywood remains a hot-topic issue for actresses. Despite efforts to align pay in the studio system, pay still tends to be based on gender and hew in favor of male actors. And so, Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman (“The Favourite”) isn’t holding back. In a recent interview with CNN’s “The Amanpour Hour,” Colman was quick to point out that even with forward advancements in the industry, she’d still be making a lot more money if she was a man.
“Don’t get me started on the pay disparity, but male actors get paid more because they used to say [men] drew in the audiences,” Colman told CNN in a recent interview (via EW) with veteran journalist/host Christine Amanpour.

The upcoming film Deadpool and Wolverine will see the official integration of the X-Men into the MCU. With Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Jennifer Garner reprising their respective roles from the Fox franchise, the MCU will finally feature mutants along with the rest of the Marvel roster.
However, one actor who deserves to get a second shot at the character is James Marsden, who played Scott Summers a.k.a Cyclops in the X-Men films. Marsden played the role in the first three films of the franchise and had a cameo in X-Men: Days of Future Past. However, the actor reportedly always felt that he never fit into the role as much.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is currently the most anticipated MCU movie, and it’s the only one slated for release in 2024 as of now. Sources have already indicated that the film is fantastic and aims to rekindle excitement in the MCU. One reason for the buzz is Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine, a role he seemingly retired after ‘Logan.’ Another reason is Deadpool’s debut in the MCU, having previously been part of Fox’s X-Men universe.
Rumors are swirling that prominent X-Men villains and members may make appearances, along with speculation about Taylor Swift’s role, which even Ryan Reynolds has hinted at while remaining tight-lipped. After Jennifer Garner’s Elektra return confirmation and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine comeback, fans are now eyeing another beloved character, Marsden’s Cyclops, from previous Marvel movies.

‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is the most anticipated MCU movie currently, and the only movie releasing in 2024 as things currently stand. We’ve already heard from several sources that the movie is amazing and meant to reignite some of the faith in the MCU, to get people once again hyped to see the franchise’s movies. There are several reasons for that, the first being the return of Hugh Jackman in the role of Wolverine, something that he seemingly left behind with the ‘Logan’ movie, and the second reason is the fact that Deadpool is joining the MCU for the first time, the previous two movies being a part of Fox’s X-Men universe.
There are plenty of rumors going around that some of the most notable X-Men villains (and members) will appear in the movie, as well as rumors that Taylor Swift will be making an appearance in the movie in the yet-undisclosed role.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver will debut on Netflix next month, but fans have been anxiously awaiting the R-rated director’s cuts of both movies, which are shaping up to be something epic.
In a new interview with I Minutemen (via The Playlist), Snyder revealed that the R-rated Rebel Moon director’s cuts will likely be released on the same day later this summer, although he cautioned that nothing is official. “Those will come out, probably, on the same day – later,” Snyder said. “We don’t have a date yet, but I think it’s going to be in the summer.“
Snyder continued, “They’re each about an hour longer than the originals, the PG-13 [versions]. So it’ll be nice to see the six hours together. You can take a break, of course. It’s a more, maybe, immersive experience. I’m interested for people to see it that way.

Following the release of the second installment, fans of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune are undoubtedly eagerly anticipating the release of the third. However, there is no need to worry—Villeneuve appears to be taking his sweet time making Dune 3, much as James Cameron did with Avatar. Wait, that means we might have to wait another ten years for the next Dune film.
Well, in a recent chat with THR, the French-Canadian filmmaker, 56, made it clear that he is not in a rush to begin the next installment of the Dune saga. Making sure “I have the right screenplay” is another priority for him. Well, before you start pulling out your hair in frustration, consider this: maybe Villeneuve is onto something.
Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides in Dune
Just like Cameron, he’s treating Dune like his own child, nurturing it with care and patience to ‘make sure’ only the best product comes forward.

Denis Villeneuve, like a handful of other filmmakers, has been busy reshaping the entire cinematic landscape with his incredible talent. From his Hollywood debut with the acclaimed Prisoners to his current expected-to-be-a-blockbuster Dune: Part Two, the Canadian-French filmmaker’s projects are a true treat for the audience.

Despite impressive early reviews for Dune: Part Two the director has already decided to leave the franchise after a potential third movie. Seeing the incredible success that is shortly on its way for the director and the movie, there have been calls for the director to maybe helm the Star Wars franchise after he himself showed an interest in doing so. Yet many of his fans are outraged and claim it would be a disgrace for a director of his stature to direct a failing franchise like Star Wars.

This post contains major spoilers for "True Detective: Night Country."
"True Detective: Night Country" isn't afraid to wear its influences on its sleeve. Episode 2 saw new showrunner Issa López borrow directly from David Fincher's "Seven," in which a presumed corpse suddenly wakes up with a jolt, making for the biggest jump scare in the director's 1995 crime thriller masterpiece. In "Night Country," this moment is echoed when the frozen body of a scientist awakens while still immersed in the ice, shocking police gathered around the horrific scene.
But Fincher isn't the only director López borrowed from to create "Night Country" and its eerie, haunting atmosphere. In fact, the fourth season of "True Detective" is notable for its wide array of inspirations, which span everything from John Carpenter's horror classic "The Thing" to the movie that established Jodie Foster herself as a true dramatic force, "The Silence of the Lambs.

Sal (Gael García Bernal) exists in a limbo — not the religious notion of a space between life and death, but a nonspace. He lives in a large apartment but appears to have no job or vocation. The sprawling metropolis around him is unnamed and uninteresting, a maze of tall buildings home only to the people who cross his path. The man has no hobbies or talents. In fact, there are only three things we know about Sal: he enjoys clubbing, loves his sister, and his wife, Zoe, is dead.

Filmmaker Asmae El Moudir, making her feature directorial drama, starts her non-fiction film “The Mother Of All Lies” as a modest family chronicle—an elevated home video of sorts. It is soon clear, though, that she has much more on her mind because the actual subject of her inquiry is the collective amnesia around a seminal event that changed Morocco forever, the 1981 Casablanca bread riots. A shattering moment in history that tore apart families and communities, it resulted in the massacre of over 600 civilians—erased from history books it seems.

In hindsight, it might not seem like it, but the 2024 Oscar season has been highly competitive on many fronts. First carried by the directors during the WGA and SAG strikes, the race got a November boost when the latter came to an end and the actors were free to promote to their heart’s content. And while those work stoppages sadly affected several potential awards players, in the long run, it was probably always going to come down to “Oppenheimer,” “Barbie,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Poor Things,” and “The Holdovers.”
