Great drama, disappointing sci-fi
Djervig1 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had a lot of exposition, and attempted to make both the obstacles and solutions seem very sciency. Unfortunately it didn't live up to it's usual standards of world logic. The most obvious example being when a meteor is shown to burn up, in what appears to be a very dense atmosphere, and then moments later we're told that this is what usually happens but also that the planet has little atmosphere left, and that only two miles above ground the air is too thin to breath - and then later a meteor does appear to make it though, yet it seems to go undetected.

But besides the inconsistencies the show is beautifully made, well acted and has a good story. I was a little sad to see the show opening with such a long jump in time, but after having watched a few episodes of Star Trek Discovery recently, this is a breath of fresh air in comparison.

What is the robot doing all day?
fatewemake4 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The only thing the robot did this episode was to carry a bunch of rocks and throw them into a lake to hide them. This was actually hurting their progress from getting off the planet. The robot should have more important functions rather than waiting for Will to pass gas so it can analyze the particles... a job I certainly would not take!

Still A Good Series Even After A Long Break
gbarrett-399411 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The quality of the special effects is top notch. Episode opens with a tense scene and then the new seasons begins. It reminds me a bit of The 100, since it seems like it's mostly kids leading the show. It will be interesting how they explore this new planet. Pretty solid episode.

Generic episode
Turanic1 December 2021
A pretty boring episode, the plot moves 0 into anywhere in 54 minutes. A bad way to start a season with a bore like this. Might be me but previous seasons started with a bigger bang ... Entire episode you sit and wait something to start happening, instead everyone just runs around fixing/hiding/climbing/ gathering something . Let's hope the season gets better after this...

Warning: Spoilers
So you are telling me that the crew of the Resolute spent the last YEAR gathering contaminated water in the desert, nearly killing everyone and destroying the colony ship, yet there was a RAINFOREST PLANET next door the entire time?

-Finally !!
batmanforever-932495 December 2021
I see many fans are not quite satisfied ,but this is one of the 3 sci-fi shows (alongside The Mandalorian and Titans ) from the last 4 years i can watch without the need to vomit (even the Expanse is quite mediocre if you don't count the physics of space traveling ) ,so i can't give less than 10 stars , i really enjoyed this episode and i still can't believe this is the final season, because is so much better than Star Trek Discovery which is still running after 3 seasons ,even nobody likes the show.

First episode is a step down.
njdaymond8913 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
  • The end of the episode reveals ruins that couldn't have been more than a brisk trek away, but somehow 100 kids and a robot failed to explore their surroundings within a year. It's also quoted that the ship scanned the planets surface so they can land in a survivable environment. It even revealed titanium deposits on a sheer cliff face, but apparently couldn't detect huge ruins, visually or otherwise.

  • Multiple meteor impacts within visual range were depicted as loud, but no young ears nor the ships computer are tuned in to that. Just the robot.

  • The interpersonal drama is tedious. These kids are generally good actors, but much of it felt very stilted.

  • Judy would most certainly have suggested the ore deposit before a year expires, both to acquire titanium and to satisfy her curiosity concerning the radio signal.

  • I currently haven't a clue how all of those parents are alive, in orbit about a star and with so many intact Jupiters, nor how they approach and depart a robot infested planet stealthily.

  • Smith has ramped up her acting to 'even more annoying', and the audience is left cringing. She also saves Judy at the start of the episode, which was yet another dues ex machina by the writers. Just have Judy make it without all of this Hollywood 'last minute danger, last second danger' - as if flying through space to catch a moving spacecraft isn't thrilling enough. The 'gotcha' hand grab is outdated.

  • The robot literally fought for Will last season. Would it really strand him on a planet, and would Will truly not have realised the missing titanium?

  • Up-draughts that can accelerate vehicle sized boulders to 'blur' speed would have launched wing suits hilariously high. Instead they jump and drop, like every 'last second', will-they-won't-they reappear scene ever. It doesn't create tension. I imagine holding hands would have removed all individual movement abilities too.

Alllllll of that said, I'm happy watching the rest! On to episode 2. CGI is still good, there is room for an engaging story, if not compelling. Compared to shows such as Star Trek, this is a fair watch (though random reader, I'd recommend Foundation over this)

You shoot me down, but I won't fall. I am titanium
southdavid19 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Just under two years ago, I wrote my review for the final episode of the second season of Netflix's "Lost in Space" reboot. I felt the second season vastly improved on the first, but feared it might be too late to save the show as Netflix was yet to confirm a third run. As it turns out, a third was ordered, but it would be the final season - this season was then delayed by covid but now has finally dropped.

The Robinson children, and indeed all the children from the Resolute have not arrived at their proposed destination, but instead the abandoned NASA craft Fortuna, which Judy's (Taylor Russell) biological father was previously on board. Before a thorough investigation can begin, their Jupiter's autopilot engages and lands them in the nearest planet, having suffered damage in an asteroid collision. A year later, the makeshift crew are still on the planet, slowly processing enough titanium to fix the ship. The adults, having bandied the Jupiter's together to a new operations base are scouring nearby planets for the wreckage of the Resolute, whilst trying to avoid robot patrols.

First up, seriously Netflix, no recap? Having paused the episode and found a synopsys online to read, we crashed on with the first episode. One change is so immediately obvious it needed to be referred to in the show itself. In the two years between filming Maxwell Jenkins has about doubled in size. The story explains this with the year time jump and the kids setting up camp on the planet and also with Dr Smith/June Harris commenting on how annoying it is that he's now bigger than her. We get back into typical "Lost in Space" adventure pretty quickly though, with the Robinson's attempting to scale a nearby cliff for a rich seam of Titanium, so they can get off world before the orbit becomes too clogged with debris.

The Robinson parents seem to have distanced themselves from each other, in the intervening year, with Maureen taking the decision to 'save' the kids badly and having removed herself from the leadership role. She's sparked back into life by the end of the episode though.

A decent enough start, and with some intrigue for the season to play with in the future.

Lazy Writing in Fantasy Land of Stupidity
shannongillenwater12 December 2021
I don't know if I can continue after watching the season opener for 3.

A story about a group of 14yo kids who are master physicists, metallurgists, mechanical engineers, world class rock climbers (with no training and endurance to go miles while wearing a cumbersome space suit), electrical engineers, medical doctors, metal smelters..... And on.... And on...

And all of that with no tools or technology available to them. Just stupid. Are the writers that lazy or that stupid?

And the only adult there.... What is her job? To teach French. Are effen kidding me?

They have this amazing robot to help. What does it do? Nothing. It apparently spends its day roaming around throwing away the thing they need most. Yet Will somehow doesn't notice.

Could have been better
jonny39394 December 2021
It makes me sad that writers today can't put together decent dialogue and plot, everything is a rehash of the same old stuff. Nobody tells each other what's actually going on and this faux mystery is a lazy device. Truth is you can't shut up kids today they share everything, so long pauses, and fake drama is not interesting. This episode could have been 20 min.

plot holes, unbelievable
baronr-052217 December 2021
I'm finding a lot of the motives of characters, decision making, very unrealistic. It's just hard to put myself in their place and come up with making the same mistakes.

I had forgotten...
Lilith_i5 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
How everyone is always complaining in this show, now I get why it got canceled...

And the wife goes: "and I used to be a mother! Blah blah..." exit left, or right, who cares!

Why are they so cringy... do your job Maureen, you are not only a mother, have some agency for crying out loud!

Dr Smith, Don West, Judy and the Robot, are the only ones worth watching from the principal cast, all the other are annoying.

A slow, uneventful, disappointing mess
alsation7211 December 2021
Imagine having a budget this large, and doing absolutely nothing remarkable or original or fun in the writing. This whole thing has been a pointless bore! The actors are great, the effects are brilliant ... but the writers should hang their heads in shame for creating the most BORING, forgettable, humourless, cold series. I'm done with it: tired of waiting for something to improve.
