  Jonathan Kent : He's my twin brother.

  General Sam Lane : Yes, but the minute his powers surfaced, you and him began walking two very different paths.

  Jonathan Kent : That scares you, doesn't it?

  General Sam Lane : It does.

  Jonathan Kent : You know, I think you're wrong. I think you're wrong about you and I being alike.

  General Sam Lane : How so?

  Jonathan Kent : I could never be scared of my family, no matter what powers they might have.

  General Sam Lane : Jonathan, you haven't seen the things I have.

  [as she and her companion prepare to fire their heat vision, a kryptonite gas grenade detonates] 

  General Sam Lane : Get out of here!

  General Sam Lane : Keep hitting this 'til he comes. It's all we can do.

  Jonathan Kent : No, no, no, no. We need to go to the barn.

  General Sam Lane : I'll keep 'em busy.

  General Sam Lane : [putting it on his head]  Only way I could get you to do it. We sure went through our fair share of frozen peas, didn't we? God, even as a kid, you were always coming home bruised up. I was never there to keep you from getting them, though, was I?

  Lois Lane : Dad.

  General Sam Lane : It's true. Everything you said is true. I wasn't the best father. I was gone, a lot, and I wasn't there to protect you the way a parent should.

  Lois Lane : You were tonight.

  General Sam Lane : Couldn't let them hurt my grandson. Or my little girl. Lois, we're gonna stay here 'til this is over. As of now, you, the boys, Clark, Smallville, that's my priority.

  Lois Lane : Good. 'Cause that war John Henry Irons was talking about, I think it's about to happen.

• General Sam Lane : [on the phone with a subordinate]  What do you mean you don't know how long it'll affect him? No, I haven't tested the prototype. He wasn't exactly in the mood. Just get me an answer.
