Coming out in the 80s - in a good way
aufrechtgehn25 November 2009
I've seen this movie as a part of the Gay Propaganda Night short film festival, a compilation of 9 or so mainly funny coming-out-stories from the States and Europe. Being 42 myself, this is not exactly my topic at this stage of my life. Still, Dirty Magazines - easily the best movie of the evening - managed to take me back to those times of my own coming out emotionally, because of it's vibrant 80s setting and feel, combined with the brilliantly OTT story and figures. Imagine the drama, hysteria and glamor of Dynasty, mixed the humor of Soap. Oh, and some excellent 80s disco-pop tracks thrown in for extra pleasure. Entertaining and funny as hell, yet heartwarming - don't miss it or you'll miss something good!

Funniest Gay Comedy Created in a Long Time
bsubglad17 November 2010
BGLAD decided to host a Queer Film Festival at Boise State University. Indie Media Films provided us with five films for it and one was "Dirty Magazines". Dirty Magazines had the entire audience laughing out loud throughout the whole movie. I strongly suggest watching this film. The film has different types of comedy all throughout the movie; so everyone will laugh during it. The story line is great too. Any gay male can relate to the issues presented during the movie. I own a copy of the movie and show it to all my friends, who end up loving the movie too. Can't wait to show "Dirty Magazines" again at Boise State University!!

a real good short film

At first sigh, a comedy. Nice, easy, using different levels of humor. That is one of its virtues. But not only. The second is the fine performance of Suzane Brittan in the role of mother. Each mother front to the not acceptable interest of son for a kind of magazines discovers in her lovely performance the feelings and fears and angry and hope of own emotions. It is a real good short film for the smart manner to reflect a profound dramatic crisis in many families. And to transform a delicate conflict in seductive comedy represents more than a good point. Short, a charming perspective , a wise portrait of coming-up in many of its nuances.
