While Catherine Zeta-Jones has done many great roles, she’s also forever linked to the swashbuckling legend of Zorro. Her fiery performance as Elena Montero in “The Mask of Zorro” (1998) left a lasting impression, surprising audiences with her sword-wielding skills and passionate spirit.

Nicolas Cage won’t be back to National Treasure 3, and he says that the film isn’t happening at Disney.
By this stage, it’s hardly surprising that this particular story has come to this particular conclusion. But hey: National Treasure 3 isn’t going to happen.
The news was confirmed by its star, Nicolas Cage, who’s on the promotional trail at the moment over at the SXSW Festival. He was asked directly by Screen Rant if National Treasure 3 was going to happen, and gave a fairly to the point reply.
“No, there is no National Treasure 3”, he said. “If you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney, okay? It’s not there.”
That was the end of his statement on the matter. Shit, I’ve got to get 300 words out of this.

Nathan Drake and Lara Croft could be Hollywood’s go-to treasure hunters until someone else comes along because, according to Nicolas Cage, a National Treasure 3 is not happening. Cage played treasure hunter Benjamin Franklin Gates in Disney’s 2004 action-adventure romp, with National Treasure: Book of Secrets mapping a path to theaters in 2007.
Speaking with ScreenRant, Cage said, “No, there is no National Treasure 3. If you want to find treasure, don’t look at Disney, okay? It’s not there.”
Cage’s verbal mousetrap is quite telling of the actor’s tolerance for how Disney conducts its business. Cage’s comment may refer to how Disney fumbled the bag with its sequel series National Treasure: Edge of History. The adventure series starring Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed, Jake Austin Walker, Antonio Cipriano, and Catherine Zeta-Jones was canceled after one season despite having ties to the Cage-led feature films.

The National Treasure movies, while preposterous in plot, are actually quite good pieces of escapist entertainment. Who doesn’t want to see Nicolas Cage steal the Declaration of Independence or clear his family’s name of Lincoln’s assassination? Considering that the two movies collectively grossed over $800 million worldwide, it’s surprising that we never got a third entry. And it’s not just us that thinks so, but also Benjamin Franklin Gates himself.
Speaking with Deadline, Nicolas Cage championed the National Treasure movies as plenty of fun but was also blown away that Disney dropped the ball in building the franchise. “I mean, I enjoy them too, and I think Jon Turteltaub made a couple of classic films for the whole family. I’m still kind of amazed that Disney hasn’t wanted to make a third one. I thought the movies brought a lot of joy to the public,...

Nicolas Cage broke out in laughter during a recent Vanity Fair video interview when forced to watch the infamous scene from 2004’s “National Treasure” in which his character, treasure hunter and cryptographer Benjamin Gates, says for the first time, “I’m gonna steal the Declaration of Independence.” The line of dialogue has been a calling card for Cage’s career for 19 years now and counting, and it’s inspired countless memes and parodies on the internet.
“How do you take something that is so profoundly ridiculous and really try to sell it?” Cage said while watching the infamous moment. “What I really like about that scene just seeing it again for the first time in however many years is I like the positivity of the character. He really believes this. He really reveres it. I think that’s charming.”
“I can’t even say it without laughing,” he added about the line.

It looks like the "National Treasure" universe wasn't quite ready to expand. Deadline is reporting that the Disney+ spin-off series "National Treasure: Edge of History" has been cancelled after just one season. Guest stars like Harvey Keitel, Justin Bartha, and franchise newbie Catherine Zeta-Jones apparently weren't enough to save the tie-in series, which arrived a full 15 years after the second film in the Nicolas Cage-led franchise.
"National Treasure: Edge of History" followed Jess (Lisette Olivera), a second-generation treasure-keeper and first-generation Mexican-American immigrant who's tasked with continuing her father's legacy. The first season followed a mystery related to a necklace Jess inherited from her father, one that kickstarts an adventure with ties to secret societies, the Spanish Inquisition, the Battle of the Alamo, and much more. The teen-centric show aimed to capture a younger generation of fans, but with the news of its cancellation, one wonders if it came a...

“National Treasure: Edge of History” has been canceled at Disney+ after one season, Variety has confirmed.
Based on the “National Treasure” film franchise, Disney’s TV adaptation followed treasure hunter Jess Venezuela. After a stranger gives her a tip about a centuries-old treasure possibly connected to her father, she and her friends set out on the hunt. Lisette Olivera, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith were among the cast.
In the season one finale, which aired in February, co-creators Marianne and Cormac Wibberley (who also wrote the first two films) closed the first installment unveiling a “National Treasure” twist. FBI Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco) — who appeared in both “National Treasure” films and recurred on the series — revealed himself to be the Cras Est Nostrum’s Salazar, a generational title for wizard behind the curtain and had been secretly sabotaging Billie’s (Zeta-Jones) Treasure Destoyer hunts.

The magical fantasy series “Willow” couldn’t conjure up a second season. Deadline reports that Disney+ has canceled the continuation of the 1988 film after a single season.
“Willow” premiered in November 2022. While it was well-reviewed, it received little fanfare and got a surprisingly minor marketing push for a special effects-heavy fantasy show based on a popular franchise. Its low-key release was perhaps a sign of what was to come.
The series was produced by Lucasfilm and served as a sequel to Ron Howard’s beloved film, which starred Warwick Davis as the titular sorcerer and Val Kilmer as a mercenary named Madmartigan who joins Davis on his quest to protect a baby princess named Elora Danan from an evil queen. Davis returned for the series, in which Willow aids a group of young people on their quest to rescue a kidnapped prince. The series also starred Ellie Bamber as adult Elora Danan,...

Jacob Vargas, Lisette Olivera, and Jake Austin Walker in Disney+’s ‘National Treasure: Edge of History’ episode 10
The season one finale of Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History ties up all the treasure-hunting loose ends while dangling the possibility of where season two could go if the streaming service picks up the drama. Episode 10, “Treasure Protectors,” picks up the action right where episode nine ended, with Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco) having just stabbed Agent Ross (Lyndon Smith) with a sword. We, the audience, now know he’s Salazar – the man we’ve heard about all season but whose identity has just been revealed.
When Billie (Catherine Zetta-Jones) questions Salazar about why he’s there, Rafael (Jacob Vargas) chimes in and reminds her that Salazar is the one who killed her brother. But, of course, Salazar claims Rafael is a liar.
After loading the boat, they set off to find the treasure.

Peacock’s “Poker Face,” which critics and viewers have received well since its premiere on Jan. 26, saw the biggest increase in demand, up 27, according to Parrot Analytics‘ data, which takes into account consumer research, streaming, downloads and social media, among other engagement.
The thriller series starring Natasha Lyonne and directed by “Glass Onion” director Rian Johnson will likely receive more attention over the next two weeks thanks to a tweet by author Stephen King praising the show and the ever-increasing slate of positive reviews surrounding it. While it remains to be seen just how high the demand for “Poker Face” can go, for its first week post-release it has done impressively, with 15.8 times more demand than the average series.

In the first “National Treasure” movie, Nicolas Cage’s Ben Gates justifies stealing the Declaration of Independence by telling the authorities he is a treasure protector — but that was so 2004.
In the Disney+ spinoff series “National Treasure: Edge of History,” the latest threat to this country’s lost history is from treasure destroyers, specifically a group known as Cras Est Nostrum. This faction hunts down and destroys treasure to avoid the messy business of having to rewrite history.
Billie (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and her specific brand of brute force has been the group’s muscle this season in pursuing Montezuma’s Treasure, which she calls a “political powderkeg” if found. Episode nine of Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History is jam-packed with surprises, so buckle in. Elsewhere, Oren (Antonio Cipriano) is currently freaking out. He and Liam (Jake Austin Walker) went to Agent Ross (Lyndon Smith) and told her about Myles – his grandpa’s old nurse – being murdered. When Agent Ross checks out the scene, Myles’s body is gone and the room’s clean.

In this weekly data series powered by Parrot Analytics we look at the top breakout shows of the past week. Breakout shows are the most in-demand series that have premiered in the past 100 days.

This Black History Month, we wanted to learn about the personal histories of women we admire - so we asked changemakers to tell us about a Black woman in their life who has been crucial in shaping who they are today.
In this installment, Zuri Reed talks about her mother, who encouraged Reed to go after her dreams. Reed is an actor known for her roles in "The Get Down" and, most recently, "National Treasure: Edge of History."
My beautiful mother, Sheree Reed, commands any room she walks in. That probably comes from her years of teaching noisy students, but it is truly powerful. I strive every day to walk through life with her level of confidence.

With its list of new releases for February 2023, Disney+ is going all out to honor one of the biggest Marvel movies of the past year (and the one with the studio’s best Oscar chances yet).
Simply put: February 2023 belongs to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on Disney+. The Black Panther sequel arrives to the streaming service on Feb. 1. Wakanda Forever serves as both a fitting sendoff to the iconic Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa and a pretty fun introduction to Tenoch Huerta as Namor.

Feb. 8 sees the arrival of Marvel Studios Assembled: The Making of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. That will be followed up on Feb. 22 with Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever. Lisette Olivera, Zuri Reed, and Jordan Rodrigues in Disney+’s ‘National Treasure: Edge of History’ episode 8
With just two episodes left in season one of Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History, things are really heating up. Episode seven ended with Jess concluding she needs to break her father out of a prison in Mexico. Episode eight picks up with Jess’s dad, Rafael (Jacob Vargas), in for a shock when he sees Billie (Catherine Zeta-Jones) has come to visit him.
Billie accuses him of killing her brother and Rafael denies it, insisting it was Salazar who killed her brother. Billie demands the last relic or else she’s going after Jess. “You’re about to find out how it feels to lose the person you love more than anything else in the world,” warns Billie.
Oren (Antonio Cipriano) desperately tries to talk Jess (Lisette Olivera) out of breaking her father out of prison.

As much as people may love to hate both the show and Mindy Kaling, HBO Max’s “Velma” saw a whopping 127 increase in demand and rose up to take second place on this week’s ranking of the most in-demand new shows, according to Parrot Analytics‘ data, which takes into account consumer research, streaming, downloads and social media, among other engagement.

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” makes its Disney+ debut in February, but another title joining the library this month has us waiting eagerly.
The limited series “Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever” dives into the film’s soundtrack, from Ludwig Goransson’s score to the chanting and vocals of Wakandan tribes. “The sonic world of Wakanda is evolving,” music consultant Seni Saraki says in the show teaser. It’s impossible to imagine Ryan Coogler’s film series separate from that world, and deeply exciting for “Black Panther” fans to watch that evolution. “Voices Rising: The Music of Wakanda Forever” premiers February 22 on Disney+.

Here’s everything else coming to Disney+ in February.

Lisette Olivera in ‘National Treasure: Edge of History’ episode 6 (Disney/Brian Roedel)
We’re halfway through the first season of National Treasure: Edge of History and the action is really heating up. Episode six, “Frenemies,” picks up right where episode five ended as Jess (Lisette Olivera) hops into a car with Billie (Catherine Zeta-Jones) to avoid the police. Billie claims she knew Rafael (Jess’s dad) and, of course, that piques Jess’s interest.
Billie shows her a medallion – the same one that Jess has – and claims to not only be a daughter of the Plumed Serpent but also insists they’re on the same side.
After Jess texts her friends to assure them she’s fine, she agrees to go to dinner with Billie. Billie shows Jess the medallion again and shows her a picture of her father, Rafael, with another man. Billie explains that the man in the photo is her brother Sebastian,...

Catherine Zeta-Jones in ‘National Treasure: Edge of History’ episode 5 (Disney/Brian Roedel)
Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History episode five catches up with Billie (Catherine Zeta-Jones) who’s busy working with her lackeys to try and figure out what Elvis’s riddle means. Dario (Darri Ingolfsson) thinks he figured it out with his high-tech programs, but Billie knocks his theory out of the running. She believes “twin serpents” doesn’t refer to a “tail” but instead is about a “tale.”
Billie doesn’t know it, but that’s also what Jess latched onto.
Meanwhile, Jess (Lisette Olivera) is having second thoughts about Liam being the mole. However, Tasha (Zuri Reed) is certain he’s Billie’s mole and attempts to convince Jess of that as she sweeps their apartment for bugs. Liam’s ears must be ringing because just then he sends a text to Jess asking her if...

Disney+ is opening up the New Year just the way it likes to: with plenty of Star Wars. Disney+’s list of new releases for January 2023 is highlighted by a fresh season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 2 premieres its first two episodes on Wednesday, Jan. 4. New episodes of this show about an elite squad of clone troopers will follow each Wednesday. If nothing else, this Dave Filoni-project should ease the wait before The Mandalorian season 3.
Other Disney+ originals of note this month include Chasing Waves on Jan. 11 and Mila in the Multiverse on Jan. 25. The only new Disney+ movie in January will be King Shakir Recycle on Jan. 18. There aren’t many notable library titles to speak of but I would be lying if I said the title of the Nat Geo documentary Strangest Bird Alive on Jan. 6 didn’t intrigue me.

For many cinephiles, filmmaking peaked in 2004 when Nicolas Cage declared that he was “gonna steal the Declaration of Independence” during the first act of beloved adventure movie “National Treasure.” Since then, a second film, “Book of Secrets,” was released in 2007, and the TV spinoff “Edge of History” premiered this December on Disney+, but the film trilogy has yet to be truly concluded. But Justin Bartha, who memorably played Cage’s tech-savvy sidekick Riley in the original films, still hopes it’s coming.
Bartha guest starred in a recent episode of “Edge of History,” which also features original cast member Harvey Keitel and stars Lisette Oliviera and Catherine Zeta-Jones. In an interview with Variety to discuss his appearance on the show, Bartha said that he thinks the film could happen, especially given the recent successes of Cage and the film’s primary producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

Justin Bartha and Lisette Olivera in ‘National Treasure: Edge of History’ episode 4 (Disney/Brian Roedel)
The action picks up with Jess (Lisette Olivera) deep in thought trying to decipher the message she heard from none other than Elvis Presley (in episode three) as Disney+’s National Treasure: Edge of History episode four begins. A knock at the door interrupts her concentration, and it turns out that Ethan’s apologizing via cupcakes.
Oren (Antonio Cipriano) is deep in his own investigation and asks Ethan (Jordan Rodrigues) if he wants to help. It’s a no-go for Ethan; he’d rather spend time with his new girlfriend.
Meanwhile, Jess is getting frustrated that she can’t figure out Elvis’s riddle. Tasha (Zuri Reed) is there helping by talking her through it.
Elsewhere, a familiar face is getting off a private jet. Riley Poole (Justin Bartha), who played a key role alongside...

Jerry Bruckheimer has done it all. Over the course of his 50-year career, the mega-producer has sent the Pirates of the Caribbean to the world’s end and back, sent Tom Cruise to Top Gun twice, taught a generation how to Flashdance, and turned Will Smith and Martin Lawrence into Bad Boys for life. Hell, he’s even helped Nicolas Cage steal a National Treasure! So it totally makes sense that this icon — who has also given television a bounty of hits like Fire Country, Lucifer, The Amazing Race, and the CSI franchise — would blend the two worlds in which he’s found so much success. Recently, he did just that with both a serialized take on one of his first hits, American Gigolo, as well as the Disney+ thrill-ride that is the just-debuted Treasure spinoff, National Treasure: Edge of History And while there is nary a sighting of Nicolas Cage (yet!
