In this episode King Henry (Keith Michell) reconciles with Mary the daughter he has spurned since the dissolution of his marriage to her mother Catherine of Aragon (Alison Frazer is seen here and in Catherine Parr (1970) as Mary: Verina Greenlaw had played the younger Mary in Catherine of Aragon (1970)): Bernard Hepton as Thomas Cranmer Archbishop of Canterbury is seen urging the King to restore his daughter to favor, Cranmer describing Mary as "a fine girl". Six weeks after Mary's 1556 coronation as sovereign queen, Cranmer would be condemned to death, being burned at the stake in his sixth year of imprisonment after Queen Mary pointedly refused clemency.
