Amusing but uneven

Over acted and over directed, it comes across like those goofy 60's movies with all sorts of B list comedic actors. It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World etc. Per Wikipedia " TV Guide rated it three out of five stars, writing, "If ever a Dickens novel shouted to be filmed, it was The Pickwick Papers, and a jolly good job was done with this version...It's a very funny film with some of England's best light comedians and comediennes."

There are a large number of characters to keep track of and no closed captioning so it is not a casual view. The dialogue seems authentic, perhaps straight from the source, definitely hard to follow.
