Slow, excellent video, slightly confusing.

Warning: Spoilers
This is worth watching, and I will watch it again in order to hear the complete dialogue. Canadian movie. Very well filmed, wonderful acting but the real highlight is the directing. There is a bit of confusion regarding some details. Like are they Pakistani or Arabic (Ezzadine and his family). And how the man is holding his 'daughters' leg isn't a typical behavior of that culture. So other confusing details include what religious background is being discussed, and why everyone in the movie is crazy? Literally everyone is. It is a bit confusing as to which character is which (ie. there is a 'bad sheriff' and a 'mechanic/ex-bf' of Tom's sister who look similar so I get the two confused. Some antipathy occurs at the point where it's just too much nonsense. I don't understand why the 'sheriff' shot the 'Pakistani' man after he defended so many times before in the community eye. Seems a bit of loose ends in the storyline, but the movie is worth watching for the cinematography. Really enjoyed that portion of it, vibrant colors, excellent object overlap between the statue and Tom riding his bike, the mood is very real and heavy thanks to the filming and the music score. It would be useful if there was a bit more action regarding the aliens, but I think the movie drawls out too much trying to be mystical, when it should be slightly different twist. My guess is the end is supposed to allude to Christian ideas about revelation and end-times. It was incredibly lame to end their scene with the teens kissing. Why did the other two girls die (his girlfriend and little sister) when his sister stayed alive for all those years (without aging)? I really love the photography and cannot laud it enough, top music score, and yet believe the storyline can use modification to create a better product.

A very odd movie, mysterious and somewhat slow moving
douglas-w-goodall26 August 2016
I watched the movie on YouTube while searching for science fiction movies. The plot development is quite slow, and while waiting for things to come together and make some sort of sense, I considered several times bailing. I held on though and towards the end, when I thought it was starting to make sense, the movie abruptly ended in a very unexpected scene. Most of the movement in the plot, occurs in the last 15 minutes. I wasn't even sure it was science fiction until the last scenes.

In the course of the movie, you are introduced to a variety of townspeople, each of which have town history that is not often discussed. I would have liked the ending scenes too have been moving more slowly, so there would have been a deeper understanding of the relationships between the townspeople.

The movie has an interesting theme, and the premise was thought provoking. By the ending scenes though, more questions had been raised them answered.

Well...
RodrigAndrisan1 July 2017
The movie is not bad, it's interesting and all actors play very well. But the story is rather desirable, everything is a known cliché from other movies, the deja-vu feeling is present all the way. Everything is like a collage, head-to-head fragments, and too much dream in a dream ... To find out, in fact, that everything has never happened, it's just what: a young boy's dream, the nightmare of Young Tommy?

A drama beginning, a family middle and a science fiction ending
heinzrogel22 January 2017
This is a mystery movie with a drama beginning, a family middle and a science fiction ending. It takes the loose ends of UFO news and alien stories and weaves them into an interesting, sometimes even exciting plot but, unfortunately, leans on some stereotypes that come with the different genres, too. Well, what else do we expect from this kind of movie, I said to myself having watched it.

If we take this thought as a question the answer is: We want to be entertained, okay, but we want to be taught a little lesson, too. The film provides us with some nice tries in this direction but these don't get beyond the early stages. The best attempt, in my opinion, is the one that tries to explain the strange things happening in the town and worldwide with mankind's fear of itself. This idea, expressed in the talk between Tom, the protagonist, and Ezzedine, the mysterious oriental character, reminded me of William Golding's novel "Lord of the Flies" and Simon, its strange saint figure, who says: "Maybe it's only us". This could have been a worthwhile motif for "The Coming" if it had wanted to be more than enigmatic.

But all in all, this movie is entertaining in a thoughtful way. That's why I give it seven out of ten points.

A Surprisingly Interesting Film
life-in-balance30 December 2012
I was in the mood for a bit of a nail-biter of a film, and I came across this one while visiting you-tube. I was part way through watching it and paused it to make a tea. Although I had been enjoying the movie, I became curious as to other's thoughts and started reading the site's comments' section; it was then that I came to realize this movie is in fact a low budget film produce produced by someone who appeared to be a relative newbie to film-making, or at least that was the case when it came out in 2009. That said, I continued to watch this film with this fact in mind, which left me quite impresses, given what I presume were financial limits during filmmaking and an unknown cast. I am looking forward to finding and watching other films by this gentleman, and in seeing his career grow. I would also like to see if there is more out there by the various actors: ) So sit down and enjoy this thought-provoking and creatively crafted film.

doing a lot with a little
JamieWJackson13 January 2015
This is one of those movies that spoil you for Hollywood fare, because this is almost as good, yet was made by a rookie on a low budget. Throw 10 or 50 million bucks into the mix and the result should be far better... but here, it wouldn't be. Sure, a few things could be improved on, but you don't miss them here because the storytelling, editing, and directing are so good.

The acting was B-grade in a lot of places, but that's OK. Most of the leads were solid and the movie was about what was happening more than it was about any individual, so the acting didn't feel like the point.

My one complaint is with the ending, which confused me. The whole movie was leading up to... something, but I'm not sure what it was. Maybe I'll watch it again sometime to try and figure it out. Despite its low budget, it is enjoyable viewing. Very impressive debut!
