I can’t imagine what it must feel like to return home after a family holiday, only to find your house as well as your belongings trashed by an intruder. That’s exactly what happens to Aaron (Jeremy Sisto, Wrong Turn) and Beth (Kate Ashfield, Shaun of the Dead) Miller in Adam Mason’s (Broken) latest thriller, Hangman.
However, unlike most cases, this isn’t the work of a vagrant or thief, this is something much more sinister. You see, the person who broke in to the Miller family home, never left and with the help of cameras set up around the house, he can monitor their every move and eavesdrop on every conversation. What starts as minor interaction such as helping himself to food and the families own toiletries,...

We've been signing the praises of Adam Mason on the site for years. The American horror director has a taste for the off-beat and usually has a very specific take on what would seen to be a generic genre exercise. Blood River comes immediately to mind, but he's made some great films over the past years including Luster and Not Safe for Work, which he co-wrote with long time collaborator Simon Boyes.
His new film is called Hangman. It recently played at SXSW to great praise, so we tracked down the first trailer for you to take a look at. Again, while the footage may appear to ape the Paranormal Activity found footage feel, you can tell there is something much more sinis [Continued ...]...

Exclusive: Writing team Adam Mason and Simon Boyes (Blood River) have been hired to write internet-themed horror pic Fear Followers for Relativity Media. The duo started out collaborating across the pond on the 2006 UK indie genre feature Broken and followed with The Devil’s Chair, Blood River, Luster, and Junkie, which Mason directed and co-scripted with Boyes. They will script based off a treatment by Jaime Primak Sullivan, who is also a co-producer. Per a source close to the project, film tracks four college students who run a blog for fear junkies called Fear Followers, searching for the scariest haunted […]...

Adam Mason has long been one of my favorite independent filmmakers. Mason made me take notice with his film Broken, that was released under the since-defunct Dimension Extreme line of home video releases, and then made me a lifer with what I would argue is his best film, The Devil’s Chair, which was released back in 2007 by Sphe(Sony). Adam also made an experimental film that has yet to see a proper release, titled Pig, in which the first three fourths of the film are captured in one continuous shot. Around the time that film was ready, Adam was hanging out in the discussion boards of various horror websites, offering anyone that wished to see his film Pig a means to do so. I met Adam around that time, and we started talking about his film, among other things, and he turned out to be one of the coolest...

Long-time Mason collaborator Andrew Howard, Caroline Guivarch, Robert Lasardo, and Daniel Louis Rivas all star in this tale of addicts doing extremely horrific things. Look for more soon if you have the stomach for it.

Drug-addled Danny (Daniel Louis Rivas) could clean up his act if only the entire world wasn’t conspiring against him, including his best friend Nicky (Robert Lasardo); his father (Andrew Howard) and his dealer, Otto (Tomas Boykin).
Junkie — a bloody, brutal, surreal and deranged looking flick — is directed by cult filmmaker Adam Mason (Pig, Luster).
Rivas, who stars and produces, previously appeared in the hit underground film Altamont Now.

Director Joe Johnston has chosen to follow up his big-budget superhero flick, last summer’s Captain America: The First Avenger, with a new “micro-budgeted thriller” that will, unfortunately, be pretty hard to search for online. The film is called Not Safe For Work (or just Nsfw) and “it follows a young paralegal trapped in an office with a killer mission to destroy files and anyone that stands in his path.” Sounds like somebody’s got a case of the Mondays! (Forgive me.) The film is starting to come together, with Max Minghella (The Social Network, The Darkest Hour) in talks to play that put-upon paralegal, with Elise Mumford (part of the ensemble on the new TV show The River, and soon to be seen in that Miley Cyrus sorority flick So Undercover) also in talks to Minghella’s girlfriend, who just so happens to works in his office. While we haven’t seen enough from Mumford to...

A new thriller is on its way from the director of Captain America, and we have the scoop for you right here. Read on for all of the - hopefully - gory details.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joe Johnston has signed on for his first project since directing last year’s Marvel superhero hit, Not Safe For Work.
Written by British scribes Adam Mason and Simon Boyes (Blood River, Broken, Luster), Nsfw centers on a young paralegal who is trapped in the office with a killer on a mission to destroy files for another corporation.
The film is a micro-budgeted thriller from micro-budget master Jason Blum and his Blumhouse Pictures. Not Safe For Work is set up at Universal via Blumhouse’ first-look deal with the studio.

It took Joe Johnston a while, but he finally scored a big win. After the box office and critical disappointments of Hidalgo, Jurassic Park III, and The Wolfman, cash and acclaim came in the form of Captain America: The First Avenger, a film that gave empirical proof to Johnston‘s talents as a big-budget director. From that point on, odds were that he could have the pick of just about any $100 million property he wanted.
So it’s no small shock that, today, THR reported that Johnston had been signed to direct a $2.5 million dollar “micro-budget thriller.” The film, Not Safe for Work, is being produced by Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity, Wettest County) and his shingle, Blumhouse Films. It’s been written by Adam Mason and Simon Boyes (Luster), and focuses on a paralegal who gets trapped in an office with a killer working for another corporation to destroy sensitive files.

It’s lucky 13 for the Boston Underground Film Festival as they celebrate their raucous 13th annual edition this year. Opening with the much buzzed about bloody feature film Hobo With a Shotgun starring Rutger Hauer and directed by Jason Eisener, the fest then barrels on for eight wild nights and days from March 24-31.
While there’s plenty of underground goodness from the U.S.A., this year Buff feels like it’s a much more international affair with several sick features from around the globe. There’s gory horror and quirky black comedy from Japan in the guise of Yoshihiro Nishimura’s Helldriver and Sion Sono’s Cold Fish; the Argentinian freak-out Phase7 by Nicolas Goldbart; David Blyth’s Wound is a psychological thriller from New Zealand; and Mark Hartley’s Machete Maidens Unleashed! is a look at Philippine exploitation cinema from the ’70s.

Massachusetts residents, take note of the Boston Underground Film Festival. We don't get much in the way of genre film fests out this way so it's our duty to support this stuff when it happens, yes? In addition to buying a ticket and partaking in the glorious debauchery, read on to find out how you can give these fine folks a hand ensuring that Buff '11 goes off without a hitch.
A grassroots celebration of the horrific and insane wonders of cinema, Buff enters its thirteenth year this March. It goes without saying that these films aren't exactly mainstream, meaning it can be a bit of a tough sell when it comes to programming an entire week of celluloid oddities. That means the good folks behind Buff are taking donations via Kickstarter in the hopes of hitting a $5,500 goal. They've got a little over $3k at this point and we've...

As we transform ourselves here at HorrorBid into a true interactive horror magazine, one key thing we've discussed that we wanted to start doing is focusing on some of the lesser known talent that maybe haven't had their big Hollywood dreams realized but are well on their way. If there's one thing that director Adam Mason (The Devil's Chair, Luster, Pig) is very, very, good at, it's exposing you to the darkest and most violent side of human nature to the point that no matter how hard you try, you just can't look away. If the latest stills from his new film Junkie are any indication of what's to come, it perfectly follows suit.
Believe it or not, even though this is the first time we are hearing about it (Mason is prolific and ultra-sneaky), the film has already wrapped principal photography and is now in post-production.
Long-time Mason collaborator Andrew Howard, Caroline Guivarch, Robert Lasardo, and Daniel Louis Rivas all star in this tale of addicts doing extremely horrific things. Look for more soon if you have the stomach for it.

While I continue to read hilarious stories about Charlie Sheen and briefcase full of coke, now's probably a good time to tell you about Adam Mason's Junkie. The boys over at Twitch Film landed behind-the-scenes photos from the set of Mason's latest psychological mind-trip that stars Tess Panzer, Andrew Howard, Caroline Guivarch, Robert Lasardo, Daniel Louis Rivas and Tomas Boykin in a gritty, violent tale of addicts behaving badly. You can click the link for all of the bloody pics. Mason directed Blood River, The Devil's Chair, Pig and the forthcoming Luster. This film reteams him with regular Andrew Howard who can also be seen in the I Spit on Your Grave remake from Anchor Bay.

As you've probably figured out from this weird week of content, there's fuckall going on these days in Hollywood. December means little news, and bracing yourself for shitty holiday pictures, award season, and the inevitable January/February dead zone where all of the cinematic garbage gets dumped upon us.
But there's still some nuggets to be found, and since we all love horror movies (we do, don't we? Anyone who doesn't gets hit in the face with my car), here are a few of the lesser-known, but still interesting trailers out there.
First, a music video of sorts for the Norwegian film Troll Hunter that Steven Lloyd Wilson first mentioned a couple of months ago. Goddamn, this movie looks fun.

Adam Mason and Andrew Howard are back at it again. The duo who gave you guys a Free online screening of their most recent collaboration, Pig, are reteaming to tell a modern tale of Vlad the Impaler. Announced this morning by Twitch Film, Mason and Howard's next project will be the cleverly titled Dracul.A. No other details were yet revealed, but you'll find a teaser poster below. Howard can next be seen starring in Anchor Bay's I Spit on Your Grave, while Mason's Blood River and Luster are looking for distribution. Mason broke onto the horror scene with Broken and The Devil's Chair, both now on DVD.

Adam Mason's single-take endurance test, Pig, has come under a fair amount of scrutiny over the past few months with opinion split to say the least. And while his next feature (Luster) lurks in post production it seems like a good time to revisit Mason's 2008 desert horror, Blood River, out on UK DVD from 19th July 2010.
The Hitcher-esque plot goes something like this:
"After a blown out tyre results in a near-fatal car crash in the middle of the Nevada desert, newlyweds Clark (Duncan) and his pregnant wife Summer (Panzer) are shocked to discover they have no spare in the trunk and so are forced to walk to the nearest town, Blood River, to find help. Shortly arriving at what has obviously become a long-deserted ghost town, they are greeted by the arrival of a lone drifter, Joseph (Howard), who himself has become stranded by his car running out...

Director Adam Mason (Blood River) will release his feature Pig to online audiences Saturday, April 17th @ 6pm Pst. Horror news sites Bloody Disgusting, Dread Central, and Twitch Films will post the feature, which was partially shot in a "70 minute take" (Dread). Also reviewed at Dread Central, Pig has been described as being "really tough to sit through. Every time you think that it can't possibly go any further down the road of depravity, it does" (Dread). Films with continuous long takes include Snake Eyes (5-7 mins') with Nicholas Cage, Rope from director Alfred Hitchcock (10 mins'), Oldboy (5 mins') and apparently Children of Men (4-6 mins'). However, no film promises seventy minutes plus. So, fans will have to check out Pig this Saturday to see if Mason's film is still coherent with such a long shot. More details below.
