Ellames is a young director to watch. His previous short "The Swimming Lesson" was an polished and accomplished piece, leagues above the clichéd student films of his contemporaries.
"Daniel" may be a short film, but it packs a punch. It has an impressionistic, almost hypnotic feel to it, not dissimilar to Sofia Coppola's 'slow burn' film "The Virgin Suicides". Ellames creates an unsettling reality with the the help of his talented cast. The young Tom Russell (Daniel) is sure to become a regular on the screen.
I particularly enjoyed the use of Milo in a pivotal scene.
If you are a lover of short film, this is the film for you.
