MORE. This is Star Wars
shakedatjunk24 September 2021
We need this storyline continued as well as "The Duel".

Just amazing. No need to go into it too much. Good story/plot, nice twist, great visuals, great atmosphere, great nostalgic music, amazing lightsaber fighting, amazing action overall, and just the spirit of Star Wars.

All the main characters introduced were very well done and likable even the group that didn't get too much time for each member.

I loved the awe in their faces when they see a lightsaber for the first time, it shows that it's just as magical for them as it is for all of us.

Incredible episode I really hope they make a series or a movie sequel to this episode.

The best one

Warning: Spoilers
This opened up feeling like Star Wars to me. Now I enjoyed something in all the new character designs in each of these episodes and the different stories in some way or another, but until this, none of them really felt like they belonged in the Star Wars universe.

I loved the explanation of how each lightsaber is unique to the wielder by the way of the Force. The action was spot on, and the plot twist made me want more from this storyline. Like all these, this one had its flaws, such as the usual parent being taken by the Empire. Being raised and mentored by a Jedi master, and the usual I'm not a Jedi, but I can use a lightsaber really good. Topped by the Force is Strong with this one. However after all of that, it didn't seem forced like the previous ones. Which is why I say it's the best one. I watched it twice now. Will be watching it again.

The Best This Series Has To Offer
theempop24 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
When the only reason I took off a star was because there wasn't enough of it, you've got yourself a hit. The Lucasfilm producers (making their one good decision since Disney bought them (other than Rogue One)) gave Production I. G more time than expected to combine their two ideas into a 23 minute galactic romp that had me wanting more. The visuals, story, design, music, and action scenes all scored points for me. Like all the episodes in Visions, this one hints at deeper lore, but unlike most of the others, I want to see more of this. Unfortunately, there are some lore tweaks that, if I. G were granted a full fledged show, would have to be justified somehow to exist within the canon. I was genuinely shocked by the twist, and enjoyed seeing new characters that I felt could exist within the universe. (Although 'Ethan' doesn't quite strike me as very 'Star Warsy'). Overall, I loved this episode, and would not be upset to see it fleshed out across a limited series or show. Thank you I. G, for making a fun and exciting Star Wars anime.

what the sequel trilogy should've been.

Man this episode blew everything else out the water, if they were to pick an episode to start a series of, PLEASE LET IT BE THIS ONE! This short is definitely first on my list with the duel coming in second, I just felt the story and characters were so fleshed out. I love how the lightsaber color changes based on their alignment with the force, such an amazing concept that makes sense. Wow and that twist close to the end of the episode, It really made my jaw drop. And man, the animation! So beautiful! So much care and detail was taking into consideration. Felt like I was watching a star wars movie by Studio Ghibli. The episode ended like there should have been more so please give us more Disney!

Need a full show
lujiacheng23 September 2021
This is the one. Out of all of the episodes from visions this is the one that needs to become a show. You can just tell that the studio loves star wars and knows exactly how to make it, ranging from the music all the way to the lightsaber fighting. They took just enough creative license with how the universe works and used it to tell their story in a more efficient manner.

Do it disney, turn it into a show.

This was Star Wars, for just a little while.

Warning: Spoilers
That is just dumb. Then, boom, there are 6 Sith knights. Even if this was timed NEFORE the great galactic war/before the "Rule of two" they would not have been able to keep their cool being around so many other Sith, waiting for so long for the sabers to arrive. Although it is just a small thing, it kinda tears down what is actually, FINALLY an episode of Visions that isn't an abortion of the SW universe, like the rest of these have been. But then, here we go again with this nonsense of talking about lightsaber colors directly, it is just incredibly tactless and breaks the unwritten rule that it is never referred to directly. That's twice this...'series' has done so. When V grabbed the lightsabers they would not have turn to read, realistically speaking kyber crystals are bled and then have the dark side basically injected into them and that is why they turn red. The Jedi do not change the crystals, kyber crystals are clear and they are colored by the wielder and the wielders actions or personality or whatever you want to call it. I hope that's nonsense doesn't become Canon. 4 stars, purely because this episode was a little bit better garbage than all the others.

This episode deserves its own series
tinlittlenerd2 October 2021
In a vacuum this episode is already far and away the best in the series but it still left so much more to be desired. IG outdid themselves here and I hope they get the opportunity to give us even more from this story.

The BLUEPRINT for future Star Wars ANIME!
sunsetboulevard-8339725 September 2021
As an experiment, Star Wars: Visions has yielded very MIXED results.

More "misses" than "hits" unfortunately. And even the "hits" had serious flaws.

The one exception is Ninth Jedi. If Disney are to pursue more SW anime going forward, then THIS is the blueprint!

It's AUTHENTIC to both the spirit of Star Wars AND classic Japanese anime.

Is it as "perfect" as Dimitry Grozov's New Hope anime trailer? Not quite. But it's the best marriage of these two genres (anime and Star Wars) outside of that.

Hope Disney take note!!!

Loved the story and the main protagonist. I would like to see more of her adventures.

The only bad (rushed) thing about it to me was the weak villains.

Definitely worth a watch
chasetmcfadden23 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I cant really think about anything bad to say about this.

It felt the most "star wars" out of all the episodes.

The animation was nice.

And that twist where all the lightsabers were red was the most "wow" thing Ive seen in the whole season. Great twist made even better by the nice visual shock to compliment it.

And, unlike a lot of the other episodes in the season, this one actually didnt feel very rushed!

Took 20 minutes to establish a more likable female protagonist and more interesting setting than the sequels did in 4 movies.

Unexpected plot twist
leoseimetz25 September 2021
Won't give any spoilers here.

I'm writing reviews to almost every episode of Visions, I can say this is the one that me pleased me the most about the story and the combat.

Really unexpected turn of events on this one! Like many others have said, I also want more of this story. Could potentially turn into a miniseries or something like that. Well done! 10/10.

Really REALLY good!
snakehead-1627823 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This story felt the most..."comprehensive" I guess? Like there was a lot that happened but I never felt lost. I especially give it credit for distancing itself from the film eras and doing its own thing. Visuals as usual were amazing, and DANG that story had me on quite a ride and took some unexpected turns that I really enjoyed. I'm tempted to give this a 10, to be honest, but although the twist ending was cool, it did feel a little rushed. But still, this is some dang good work!

The main female character gets more explanation, motivation and character than Reys does in three movies, with decent twists that I didn't see coming.

They need to continue this story
luvsspge24 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Great story, fans of Star Wars Rebels should recognize the fulcrum reference (hint: clothing). The way this ended it feels like they'll continue this story but if not it's still one of the best episodes of the first seasons. Action was great, interesting story, and in the end you just want more.

Beat Saber
southdavid2 November 2021
After it's slow start, this was perhaps the first episode of "Star Wars Visions" to come close to approaching the quality of the initial one "The Dual".

Many decades in the future, with the Empire and Rebellion ancient history, a group of disparate people, who honour the old tradition of the Jedi arrive at a space station on the promise of receiving a lightsaber. They are drawn there by the sinister looking Juro (Andrew Kishino) and though all accept it could be a trap, they came anyway. Meanwhile, on the surface, the Saber master Zhima (Simu Liu) is preparing the weapons when his estate is attacked. His daughter, Kara (Kimiko Glenn) is charged with getting the weapons to the Jedi above and in attempting it, demonstrates a keen aptitude for the Force herself.

Though again not perhaps the most visually striking episode in the run, it's more than made up for by an excellent story. Doing away with the trappings of Empire and Republic and focusing on the idea of Sith and Jedi works really well. The introduction of a large number of characters in a short time is simplified by developing the idea that the Kyber crystal senses the feelings of the wielder and changes light saber colour accordingly. As the tension grows on the space platform, Kara is allowed some great action scenes, escaping from the attackers then turning the tables on them - before some comedy scenes about her convincing a droid to fly her up. It's a good mix of all the best aspects of Star Wars.

I can say no more other than, like some of my fellow reviewers, of the first five episodes, this is the one I'd be most interested in seeing what happens next.

The Ninth Jedi
kaden_lewis17 January 2022
I don't watch anime. This happens to be the first anime I have ever watched. It has just never appealed to me, but I love Star Wars, so I decided to give it a try.

This was the best episode so far. This was the first episode that truly felt like Star Wars. If this wasn't anime, it would have fit perfectly as a Clone Wars episode. The whole story was phenomenal. There is so few words to describe this episode other than fabulous. This is the second episode in a row that I was sad when it ended. I seriously want some of these episodes to be their own series they are so good. This one would be amazing. The ending shot of this episode was also very cool.

Simu Liu was also in this episode. He is mostly known for playing Shang-Chi in the MCU. This is the first time I have heard him in animation. I thought he was great. The entire cast of this episode was great. It was definitely the best one so far and might be the best of the series.

Pretty good
sevskirita15 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was pretty good. Interesting plot and premise, good scenes and engaging fights. I feel like this concept and storyline is enough to work off of, perhaps for a long ago prequel.

That said, I do feel there was a pretty big flaw. It didn't seem like Kara had much of a setup for the lightsaber turning green to be satisfying (or really any reason for it to have done so).

Good Old Star Wars
zephurnaceyt1 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is excellent. Especially in terms of concept and story, and it is the best out of the anthology in terms of remaining true to Star War's themes. Second only to Episode 4 (The Village Bride) in all other areas.

PROS:

As I said, it stays the closest to Star Wars to the point of feeling canonical, while staying faraway from being labelled as a copy of any canonical story (That I am aware of, at least).

The concepts brought a smile to my face.

The "asteroid fishing" (if you will) near the beginning is a really cool idea that adds a little more spice to the world building.

The idea of light sabers changing color based on the force user's strength and designation is something I always thought would be a good idea from the first time I saw the Clone Wars, and this episode proves that notion right.

The story is intriguing (if somewhat flawed, more on that later) and is arguably, if not objectively better than the last six main stream Star Wars films.

There is a near-perfect amount of foreshadowing (more on foreshadowing and set-ups later) for several points. One example being when Kara deflects training bot shots (Similar to those of a Marksman-H combat remote) before deflecting actual baster fire a few minutes later.

The characters, particularly the "Light Saber Smith," Kara, and the Margrave are well handled. Homen is also an interesting character, I wish we had a bit more time with him.

The way his lightsaber changes from red to purple to show that he is a gray force user (like Mace Windu) was a nice touch that spike my curiosity about him.

I loved how the Margrave is designed to look like a badass Sith but is actually a badass Jedi, and the way he went full Omni-Man on the Sith towards the end (just not as gory of course) was glorious.

The animation is so GOOD! My favorite scene was when Kara is being pursued by the Jedi hunter on speeders.

The way the trees speeding by adds to the feel of momentum in the scene (something that most chase scenes forget to do), and the way the 2D characters blend with the 3D background is gorgeous.

The music, while nothing stellar, is adequate and fits the moments of its use.

CONS:

On foreshadowing.

While there was some foreshadowing, and elements of the story that came together at the end, for example, when the Margrave reveals he knew Sith were being sent and hid among them in the droid to try and tell who were Jedi and who were Sith.

Another being when he gives the group a light saber and only Ethan activates it to show he is a Jedi, but the others do not until the end to show they are Sith.

Those examples were very well done, and tied together excellently.

HOWEVER, the twist with the group of "Jedi" turning out to be Sith could have done with a little foreshadowing.

Everything makes sense at the end, yes, but it seems to come out of no where. This can be good in a way, as it takes the audience by surprise, but it can also feel a little out-of-the-blue.

This is a small flaw for an anthological story (especially one that did so well with set-ups and pay-offs in other areas), but hey, the better something is, the smaller the flaws.

The dialogue in this episode is average, with few moments of emotion coming through it.

The fact that Kara, a child with little training in the force, can hold her own against three adult Sith is a little jarring and comical.

I can understand why she did better than Ethan, as he had no master and she evidently had help from her father, but holding up 1v3? That's a bit much.

*****

All in all, really enjoyed this episode.

A solid 8/10 personally and objectively.

My dream came true, I did not see that coming btw!
yaszi-8329611 November 2021
I have always wanted to see something like this, many lightsabers clawing against one person going crazy. Their was a nice buildup with a great plot twist, then we got a amazing duel. A lot of fun with great music as well, it really elevated the episode especially the duel. Just simple an enjoyable short story!
