Classic Simpsons Grift
j-libran4 October 2021
There is nothing better than the Simpsons taking on a grift or getting involved in a grift. Great commentary on a societal issue that has plagued us all, plus plenty of funny moments. This should have been the season opener.

Fun
AnimatedCritic4 October 2021
After the train-wreck that was last episode, this was a big improvement, but it was just decent. It was pretty fun, with Grampa getting scammed, and finding the scammer. The plot was pretty fun, but felt a little inconsistent at times. Homer was just annoying in some of this episode, and I'm glad it stopped.

I thought the message was good, and the ending was solid. A lot of more jokes hit, and I really liked the Bill Cypher cameo (I miss Gravity Falls).

Overall, it was a funny episode which is a little inconsistent.

Weak and mildly Entertaining

My favorite part is when they accidentally get the gift cards by knocking over that container when they chase the scammers out after they feel defeated.

That stuff with Loki when they were using the gift cards just kind of disturbed me, it felt like Disney flaunting itself.

Homer feels kind of like a jerk in this episode to me.

Bart's in Jail!

Warning: Spoilers
With a nice mix of humour and heart I thought this was a very good episode of 'The Simpsons' from 2021 and the 33rd series.

It's the sort of plot that could have come from any era of the show, and it was nice to see the family working together to help good old Abe out of the jam he found himself in.

I thought the bit with Loki was a bit weird though, and this felt a bit like Disney trying to push a bit of cross promotion and remind us that they own 'The Simpsons' now.

Overall though this was a good episode, and I enjoyed it for what it was. I think if you start to compare these episodes to older ones you'll always come up short.

Splendid Achievement

This episode was WAY better than the previous episode, and I definitely feel as though this episode SHOULD have been the season 33 premiere instead. It's very fitting, especially with the message it conveys. Also, thank god it wasn't as bad as I was expecting (by that, I mean as bad as The Good, the Bart and the Loki).

Also, to be fair to Abe, I would have fallen for this exact scam too. I mean, in two separate instances (in the episodes Bart Star and Peeping Mom), Bart was indeed arrested and in both cases they were left on a cliffhanger, and I would have gotten the impression that they were going to continue with the storylines of either episodes.

Should have been the premier

Much strong than the last episode. Should have switched them around to give the season a stronger opener.

Refreshing

No b-plot, a focused story that actually feels like it's about something. The entire family (sans Maggie) on an adventure that it seems like they haven't done it before. It also goes for heart which people claim is totally lacking from the newer seasons. Way better than the musical premiere.

Competent in theory, ostensibly not, in execution.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm genuinely struggling to figure out why so many people are complimenting this episode and referring to it as near perfection. Is this how low this series has sunk now, when something that wouldn't even be considered an average episode in its heyday is having exponential praise heaped upon it?

By the end of the first act, the only thing that's occurred is that Grampa Simpson has been scammed out of $10,000. For roughly 7 minutes, this is the entire focus. Nothing happens in between. There's nothing happening. Something that should only be brushed over for a minute - if that - is taking up an entire third of the episode.

For lack of a better way of phrasing it, it's just straight up lazy writing. I feel like the less modest and more overzealous reviews on here are from people that, like myself, absolutely adored this show back in its day and are just that desperate to cling onto what was once the pinnacle of scripted television.

That desperate that they're willing to accept this mediocrity due to its major, inevitable decline over the successive years. Which, unfortunately, are not successful years.

4/10. Painfully unimaginative. Release the voice actors playing Homer and Marge from their contracts. They sound like they're in a world of pain trying to voice these characters, as they're clearly far too old and unable to perform like they used to. This is just sad. Let this show die and rest in peace.

Emmy
yohnny4 October 2021
I would like to nominate this episode for an Emmy. I would like to do so but I'm not paid up on my Television Academy membership dues. Actually, I am not even a member. If "Bart's in Jail" does not win an Emmy, then the world truly is going to hell in a handbasket.

Almost perfect

The reason why I gave this episode 9 stars instead of 10 is because...it doesn't bring GMTV back. I still miss GMTV, and much prefer it over Daybreak and Good Morning Britain.

So its all a scam
brettw-665464 October 2021
This story is pointless, unsettling, lazy, and special guest cast is too short or dropped out.

What the heck
superfox_8889 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The ep starts with a great premise and execution, however it all falls apart soon afterwards. Random narrative is inserted only to set up a joke for later, leaving the overall story clunky and cluttered. There is so much gold to be used here, like Moe working in the scam call centre, but it's not used to its full capacity. It's a shame, because this could have been a great episode, but instead it fell completely flat.
