Dungeons and dragons
discobiskits3 January 2023
I feel badly for those of you giving this show a low rating. I think you don't understand the culture of dungeons and dragons which this series, in my opinion, plays perfectly to.

It's amusing, adventurous, has monsters and magic, villains, heroes, and does it all very well and without ever taking itself too seriously.

People don't like kit: yes, correct! The viewer is now part of a typically dysfunctional dungeons and dragons adventuring party of clashing personalities and backstories as they bravely pursue their quest, when they're not being sidetracked by treasure, or magic, or lore, that is.

Lighten up have some fun, roll some dice and laugh with your friends.

Ps: I would collapse from sheer delight if the characters of the movie series Mythica played a cameo in this adevnture.

A bit better

...But Kit is still a punk. This was funnier and I am starting to see that many of the flaws are actually intentional decisions by the writer/director meant to be what? Satirical? Nonsensically funny? Anachronistically Ridiculous Jokes? Attempts to be edgy as in, look how cool we are mixing modern snark with fantasy genre? Look how hip we are not being bound by traditional fantasy culture and daring to be modern?

I'm not really sure but clearly they were going for cool young and hip. I think this would have gone over better on the CW maybe? I did like the trolls though and their language and site gags were actually refreshingly funny if also a bit out of place. Time will tell if we look back at this and decide they took a chance trying to something different and came out cool or just foolish. Oh Yea, Kit is still a punk. I mean I kinda like Ruby Cruz. I now don't think it's her acting that's the problem. She's not bad, has some stage presence, and she's attractive. But they wrote and directed her character that way, so blame the show runners, because, you know, Kit is still a punk.

Christian Slater elevates it
snoozejonc9 March 2023
The group go to the mines of Skellin on a rescue mission.

This is an enjoyable episode with good spectacle and character moments.

The setting feels like a combination of 'Lord of the Rings' and 'Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom' and I found it enjoyable in a partially nostalgic way.

I quite enjoyed the humour (which has been a mixed bag in the show so far). For me there are more hits than misses in terms of comedy dialogue in this one. The characterisations of the trolls are pretty funny and I thought the addition of Allagash vastly improved the mix of characters.

Slater is easily the standout performer whilst everyone else is pretty solid.

Visually it includes lots of high quality art design, including great sets, makeup, and costuming. The cinematography is great as always.

It's a 7.5/10 for me but I round upwards.

And the writing gets even worse
neurie28 December 2022
The modern humour is still very at odds with the series and main "bad guys" of the episode lack any menace to them.

Some new actors add a little of gravitas, but it really is feeling too little too late as most of this feels like it's meandering and becoming even more over bloated.

It really feels like it needed better editing, writing, half the cast trimmed and put in to a movie rather than a series.

Jokes fall flat, Davis is soo monotone it's hard to tell and inflection in his performance.

The mishmash of accents also takers you out of the Emerson as nothing sounds cohesive or belonging to the same world. Poorly casted, poor clothing choices it's just overall very mediocre and underwhelming.

How does the writing get worse? Out of place jokes, music. What a mess.
the_hawk830 December 2022
I'm just shocked the writing is getting worse. I can't figure out who this show was written for. Is it for an eight year old audience?

The jokes are terribly misplaced. The heart to heart talks at crazy times are terribly misplaced.

Kit is such a terrible character. This is the sixth episode. She is should be showing some sort of growth by this point and I mean more than the "I wuv you" to whatsherface. Insufferable.

This really feels like an original IP of the CW or Syfy. This is not the Willow anyone wanted. It has zero to do with the original movie at all and this episode really puts a fine line on that.

Gets worse with every episode.
brndck14 January 2023
Man I wanted this show to be even DECENT. The first few episodes were ok at best, and then it's just fallen from there. It's laughable. The script is terrible. The acting is awful, the plot is a joke. But it's not bad enough to be good. Another waste, just milking 80's kids for their nostalgia and then letting us down. Even the use of modern (and by "modern" I mean actual songs from actual bands from the late 1900s) is amusing for a moment but really doesn't fit in with a continuation of the original movie.

I'm having a hard time wanting to watch the next two episodes In season 1 if they're going to be as bad as this one, and keep circling the drain.

Prisoners of Skellin
Prismark109 April 2023
The producers of Willow are still saving on their electricity bills by keeping everything too dark.

After being attacked by trolls. Kit and Willow are imprisoned alongside a man who claims to be Madmartigan. He has been here for 10 years.

Willow knows it is not Madmartigan and the man is Allagash (Christian Slater.) A friend of Madmartigan and took his identity so the trolls would not look for him. Allagash also tells them of Boorman's betrayal.

It is left to Elora and the others to lead a rescue mission but Boorman is more interested to find the armour for the Lux Arcana.

The only redeeming feature of this episode was Christian Slater. He bought some effortless quirkiness of the movie. The others are trying but the script lets them down.

At least Madmartigan's voice is heard which again counts as a bit of a highlight.
