SOLID INTENSE S5 PREMIERE
agentsofsword21 September 2021
I gotta say the storytelling and plot and the budget are really good and impressive already.

I'm glad they exploring Eddie's trauma not just dropping it like nothing happened.

I'm so excited for the next episodes Ana and Eddie are not a good couple same with Buck and Taylor.

Solid Season Premiere
AnimatedCritic21 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Even after 5 seasons of 9-1-1, the show still manages to stay fresh with each new season. The season premiere was a good way to set up the next episode, and the season. The first 10 minutes were sort of slow, but It really picks up from there. Athena facing the man who tried to kill her was a fascinating story, and an engaging one with Athena dealing with the trauma.

The main topic of the episode, hacking, was done pretty well. The emergencies were a little underwhelming, except for the scene with Athena running from cars speeding at her. The final confrontation with Jeffery was played out well, and the cliffhanger with his lawyer helping to free him was a good cliffhanger.

We also see Eddie dealing with being shot, which is also interesting to see how Eddie deals with it.

Overall, it's a solid season premiere to set the story of season 5.

Negative reviews clearly forgot what show they're watching
cricket-6935915 October 2021
Over the top & absurd is exactly why I enjoy this show. Nearly every episode has something the defies reality. That's why it's fun!

Yes, we love the character growth & the cast is always fantastic. But the catastrophe of the week is almost always bonkers. Remember the tidal wave eps? The mudslide that took out part of the Hollywood sign & they found pregnant ladies being held captive? Chimney being impaled in the head with rebar? These are both the luckiest & unluckiest people in LA! I love this nonsense.

So the episode was exactly what I wanted. Intense with moments of humor & character growth. Fast paced & easy to watch. Smooth like a scoop of ice cream.

SOLID!!
aaaaaron-frannnnnnnn30 September 2021
FANTASTIC!!

I will say, I am just slightly worried that the show is falling into the whole "bigger stakes, the better it is" type of thing. When we watch cop shows, we want to see the cops take down the bad guy. This show has "upped the stakes" almost every season. Soon, they will have to resort to literally every show - with time travel LOL. I am exaggerating of course, but i just want to let the writers know, it is an amazing show - we dont need to see a HUGE terror threat every day.

That was a really good start for the shows fifth season

Warning: Spoilers
I was immediately hooked from the start and i may have let out a scream of joy that Eddie is finally getting such an interesting arc even if it means he is not okay right now. But i have no worry that Buck will be there for him. Oh this is going to be so exciting, because the show seems to finally address the elephant in the room.

Solid episode
Jocelyn7223 September 2021
I liked it and i'm so intrigued and excited about Eddie's storyline for this season. It's about time he gets some more spotlight not to mention that he is my favorite character. I could live without the annoying girlfriends however, but i'm sure we are getting there. I just hope by mid season we are done with both of them. Anyways i never understood why the cops on this show always seem to work alone instead of in teams but Angela rocks in this role so i made my peace with it a long time ago. Now i cannot wait for more of the zoo animals and how Buck tries to get through to Eddie. Bring it on!!!

Very good
moonlight_strand23 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have been very critical of 911 in my own mind, especially on Season 4 because overall, that season was probably the definition of average. Hard not to be critical when shows of this kind of popularity and caliber exist.

But compared to S4, Season 5 is really looking to be great. This premiere overall was really well done, best parts I feel as most would agree, would be Athena's storyline with her attacker on trial and his escape. Really made my heart racing seeing Athena scanning the city outside the court room amidst all the chaos. Something the show hasn't done for me in a while!

Despite these intense scenes, I can't help but wonder and be excited for what's to come with Maddie and her PPD. We got a few scenes of her and it'll probably continue to be like that for a while with Jennifer's pregnancy. But the general route the writers are taking to portray mental health is what's really going to make this first half of the season really shine and I can't wait to see what they can do.

Hoping they continue to deliver with good writing cause god knows S4 could've used it.

Stick to what you're good at . . .
dually-126 September 2021
Wish the rest of the hour had been as good as the first 60 seconds . . . What a complete waste of time! The courtroom scenes? A complete joke. As for rescues . . . Well, there was one (okay, maybe two), but nothing like what we've come to expect from the 9-1-1 franchise.

If you were fortunate enough to have missed this episode, don't go looking for it. If you're lucky, maybe next week will be better.

Negative reviewers forgot what show they were watching.
natashajamos-013157 April 2023
This review is for all the NEGATIVE reviewers who clearly forgot what show they were watching!

Ott episodes is the exact reason that what makes this show interesting! Would you rather a boring, procedural show where nothing happens or the same thing happens? That's the nature of 9-1-1-no day is the same. You get your average, rub of the mill emergencies like a cat stuck up in a tree, or more bizarre emergencies like a ransomeware attack. I suggest that the negative reviewers go back and rewatch the show. Or the negative reviewers who haven't even seen the first season to go and watch the series.

The shark has been jumped
lotekguy-124 September 2021
Waaay over the top in the main ransomware plotline, and even worse in the handling of the arc for Athena and her psycho nemesis. Anyone buying the ending should not be allowed to shop online.

I acknowledge the visual effects were first-rate. The CGI crew can sue the writers for nonsupport. I've greatly enjoyed this series. Here's hoping this opener was a glitch, not a trend.

Oof
redactedprofile26 April 2023
I can normally allow my suspension of disbelief to carry me through even the more stupid plot holes and subplot lines, but if I'm going to be honest with you, even my wife leaned over and asked me just how preposterous the whole hacking thing was. Yes Ransomware is real, yes nothing is perfectly impenetrable, but each one of these attacks would take an act of holy miracle to pull off this flawlessly, let alone this much all at once and at the same time. But even if the hackers somehow managed to do it all, they writers forgot to include a motive outside someone just wanting to cause chaos

I kinda hated how they brought back Athena's attacker, and yet showed up and ran the court room like it was his show and the judge was just eating it up... for no reason.

Really not a fan of the PPD storyline. I get why it's here, but I'm not really on board with how the show is handling it

I really liked seeing Harry grow into a character this episode, demonstrating some enterprising spirit. Was really cool to see. Also wonderful to see that May is still at it, kicking ass and gaining confidence and standing on her own two feet.

I find it really weird though as time progresses just how often Micheal is around Athena's place, especially without his boyfriend around. He has his own place with his own relationship with the kids regularly there. Having Micheal always sound really encroaches on Bobby and Athena's scenes, and while I like that they all get along just fine, I wish Micheal would just hang back a bit more and let them be them.

Also did anybody else notice a dramatic dive in Visual effects quality? The animals especially really looked like they were phoning it in

Overall, not the strongest season premier of the series.

This is bad, really bad
jaz-155527 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously, I am a fan, but this first episode of season 5 was so unrealistic and bad. A computersystem can be hacked, for sure, but not every system in the entire city of LA, LAX airport, navigation systems of cars, mobile phones dailing 911 by themselves, traffic lights, lights in building and on the streets, hospitals, helicopters crashing, zoo animals roaming the streets, courthouse system crashed with criminals walking out of the building and of course a LAPD Detective gets killed because he goes after an escaped criminal all alone in the dark with no backup. Really Guys (this includes all LHBTIQ individuals)

shan060526 October 2021
This episode-and I'm using that term loosely- was about 100 years long. It was such a reach and such a waste of actors talents. I can only pray this isn't setting the stage for S5.
