What a charming movie about gypsies!
jpszxzx1 November 2015
A wonderful adventure to a world we know little about. Colorful characters fighting insurmountable odds in a changing environment. The music is great and the whole flavor of the film is fascinating. The Maharaja of Jodhpur describes the romantic journey of the gypsies on the Silk Road. Prejudice still abounds and limits their freedom. Many seek to perpetuate their lifestyle in the face of tremendous odds. Playing traditional music, beautiful beyond description, they travel by camel caravans across the deserts. Faced by modernity, the gypsies and their children refuse to give up their traditions. The harsh desert of Rajasthan is the backdrop to their colorful costumes and instruments.

A fascinating journey

I knew very little about the Roma Peoples (Gypsies) before watching this film. Through thoughtful narration, colorful scenery, interesting characters and desert music to tie it all together, you're taken on a journey to gain a much deeper understanding of an entire people, through centuries of history to present day. Thoughtful and well presented, it's a must-watch for anyone interested in the true story of the gypsies, and the origin of the stereotypes that often follow. This film would also be great for educational purposes; classrooms, community centers, and youth/senior groups would benefit from this extensive knowledge, while enjoying the artistic expression of the filmmaker.
