The Movie Pool takes a long look at the short films of Pixar from their new Blu-ray!
The Set-up
Short films from Pixar, many featuring characters from the studio's feature fims, are presented.
The Delivery
This second collection of short films from Pixar features 12 cartoons in stunning high definition. Many of the shorts were previously available on Pixar home video releases (including "Hawaiian Vacation" and "Air Mater"), and three are Academy Award nominees.
What we get in Volume 2 of the series is an eclectic mix of styles and approaches, and for the most part, it all works well. While some are mildly amusing, others (like "Day and Night") are exceptional, that entertain and manage to be original.
The shorts included in the collection are:
"Your Friend the Rat" Ratatouille's Remy and Emile provide the disgusting yet funny history of rats. Director Jim Capobianco and production designer Nate Wragg provide an optional audio commentary.

Before we get into this week's new releases, I have a deal to bring to your attention, which is Amazon is selling the Coen Brothers Collection on Blu-ray for $19.99, which includes Blood Simple, Fargo, Miller's Crossing and Raising Arizona. You can pick that up right here. In addition to that, Amazon is having a pre-Black Friday Deals Week, which you can learn more about here. Now let's get to this week's new releases. Lawrence of Arabia I did not receive a review copy of this title, though I did try, which tells me I have either been shunned by Sony or my email is going in the Junk Mail box on the opposite side of the digital spectrum. Oh well, it looks like I will be adding it to my Wish List as I really do love Lawrence of Arabia and owning it on Blu-ray would be excellent, though it's...

In addition, the studio confirms a release date and new title for their Dinosaur movie, now titled The Good Dinosaur. Also, they reveal a couple new details on their "Inside the Human Mind" thing from director Pete Doctor. Read up on the latest for all three films after the jump.
First up, the new film. We don't know much about it at this point, other than the fact that it will be directed by Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich and produced by Darla K. Anderson, also of Toy Story 3 fame (in addition to production roles on A Bug's Life and Monster's Inc). Disney's press release goes on to call the project "a wholly original Pixar Animation Studios film that delves into the vibrant holiday of Dia de los Muertos." Who knows when the project will hit, but I'm assuming Summer 2016 following the other films on Pixar's slate. Only four years to go!

It is Tuesday, which means that it is time once again for me to avoid writing my long-running column, This Week in Blu-ray. But this week, unlike the past two weeks, I just cannot get around the sheer awesomeness of the HD releases hitting your local retailers. Which is why I'm currently working through my official report for later today -- including reviews of Godzilla (1998), Logan's Run and The Negotiator. But before I get to all of that, I wanted to file this very special edition of This Week in Blu-ray dedicated to the three releases from Walt Disney Home Entertainment, a trifecta of beautiful Pixar movies coming at you in 1080p. Needless to say, I'm recommending that you pay close attention and quite possibly that you pick up all three of these titles. We being with Pixar's tenth (and most recent film) Up. Up (2009, Pete Docter) The Up Blu-ray release is something that I, for...

It would appear another Pixar film has grown on me after seeing it in theaters. Previously Ratatouille disappointed me in theaters only to become one of my favorite Pixar films along with Wall-e and Finding Nemo. Wall-e is probably the only Pixar film to truly knock me out in theaters as the hyperbole surrounding the famed animation studio's films is so over-bearing I tend to find myself falling for these films once the waters die down, and it appears the same has happened with Pixar's tenth feature film, Up.
Of course, I already gave the film a "B+" in my theatrical review and listed it in the fifth spot on my list ranking the first ten Pixar films. So, to say the film has grown on me doesn't give it much more room to go, but there it is, and once again Pixar and Disney have put together an impressive...
