Good episode, except for the VA backlog trope
peabody0005 May 2022
Who doesn't love a good hostage situation? It's a good episode with a hostage challenge and a piggyback "I was framed" story.

My only beef, and it's a big one, is the writing regarding the VA healthcare. "With the VA backlog" they couldn't get immediate mental healthcare. That's PATENTLY not the truth. The VA has its scheduling issues at some facilities, which is why there's the Community Care system. But in no way do they allow a person with mental health or suicidal thoughts go without care.

I'm sick of non-veteran writers perpetuating this nonsense. Shame on you NCIS LA staff for not doing the research.

Good episode

Warning: Spoilers
This was the sixth episode this season and it was better episode than the rest this season. The story itself was good about what a father will do for his child, the length he is willing to take trying to save his daughter's name. I felt the guest stars were really good and that helped the emotional side of the story. I loved that it showed impact on the rest of team, especially the last scene with Callen/Sam and Kilbride. Even tho I'm not a fan of the baby tales of Kensi&Deeks I liked that we had mention of callen as a foster child, kensi and Deeks who knows Callen history should have asked him about growing up as a child W/out stable home how he wanted parents like them.

That's the big issue with NCIS LA in the last seasons there is no feel of family connection between the characters, we don't get the 4 characters telling and enjoying themselves like we used to. I get we are still in the epidemic time but not like other shows that are doing things as normal as they can with keeping everyone safe. NCIS LA isn't doing that, the show is fragmented too much ,the characters are apart most of the time, we don't get that conversation scene between them like it used to be and it hurts the story and the show .

Sundown

Warning: Spoilers
A father goes insane, and takes hostages trying to clear his daughter's name. We've seen some variaton of this premise on a lot of cop shows and some medical shows too.

It was not a bad episode, but I won't exactly call it groundbreaking television by any measurment. It also turned out to be quite anticlimactic as we didn't get any hostage deaths, or really a shootout of any kind other than a brief sniper exchange.

I also feel like they could give us a one or two week break from the Kensi and Deeks stuff. We do not need an update each episode on their parental struggles, sometimes the case of the week is all we need.
