Paramount Pictures has removed its Michael B. Jordan spy thriller “Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse” from the theatrical release schedule.
The studio announced the move Friday evening without comment but the move had been expected. Variety reported on July 23 that Amazon Studios was near a deal for the worldwide rights to “Without Remorse” but Paramount and Amazon did not confirm the report.
Paramount had announced in June that it was moving “Without Remorse” back nearly five months from Oct. 2 to Feb. 26, 2021. Instead, it will fill that slot with its untitled Billie Holiday biopic, directed by Lee Daniels, which had been set to open two weeks earlier on Feb. 12.
The studio also said Friday it was taking its “Micronauts” movie , which had been due to open on June 4, 2021, off the the release schedule. The moves are the latest in a long string of schedule delays of major titles as Hollywood deals with...

Paramount and Hasbro continue developing a "Micronauts" feature film, based on the Hasbro action figures:
Micronauts, the North American science fiction toy line, was manufactured by Mego 1976 - 1980.
The core of the designs, articulation and modeling was based on and licensed from the 'Microman' toy line created by Japanese toy company Takara in 1974.
Several comic book series based on the toy line have been published by Marvel Comics (1979–1986)...
...Image Comics (2002–2003)...
...Devil's Due Publishing (2004)...
...and Idw (2016-2018).
Micronauts originate in the 'Microverse', a collective of diverse habitats linked together in the fashion of molecule chains.
The original team comes together in response to a threat posed by dictator, 'Baron Karza'.
'Commander Arcturus Rann', returning from a thousand-year deep space voyage in suspended animation, with 'Biotron', his robot co-pilot...

After three incredibly solid animated features in the ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ franchise, writer-director Dean DeBlois is finding himself with a ton of feature film offers. We already know that his next film will be “Micronauts,” marking his live-action feature debut. However, according to a new report from Deadline, he’s already lining up the gig he’ll take after that feature, an adaptation of the 1883 Robert Louis Stevenson novel, “Treasure Island.”
The story of Jim Hawkins and pirate Captain Long John Silver is coming to the big screen once again via Universal and Mandeville Films.

Universal Pictures is developing a new “Treasure Island” movie, an action-adventure inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel. Dean DeBlois will direct.
Evan Spiliotopoulos will write the script, collaborating with DeBlois on the story.
Robert Louis Stevenson first wrote “Treasure Island” back in 1881. The novel is set in the days of sailing ships and pirates and tells of the adventures of Jim Hawkins and his search for the buried treasure of an evil pirate, Captain Flint. The Robert Louis Stevenson adventure story has frequently been adapted for both the big and small screen over the years, perhaps most famously by Disney in 1950, with Robert Newton portraying a snarling Long John Silver. But the time could be ripe for a more modern take on the enduring novel.

Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman of Mandeville Films will produce alongside DeBlois.

Paramount Pictures is ready to get the ball rolling on their Dungeons and Dragons movie! According to Variety, the studio has found the director that they want to hire for the film.
Chris McKay, the guy who directed The Lego Batman Movie and the upcoming Nightwing movie, is in negotiations with the studio to helm the fantasy adventure film. He must’ve had a pretty impressive pitch! He’s still a relatively new feature film director, who got his big break working on Robot Chicken, so to be landing these huge movie gigs for these big budget tentpole films, he must be quite the pitch man!
I loved what he did with The Lego Batman Movie, but will he be able to kick ass with live-action films like Nightwing and Dungeons and Dragons? I guess we’ll find out!
The script for the movie is being written by Michael Gillio...

Okay, pop quiz. I want those of you that saw last year’s Transformers: The Last Knight to summarize the plot of the film as you remember it.
Off the top of my head, I recall Anthony Hopkins and his camp robot butler were after some kind of ancient Cybertron spaceship at the bottom of the ocean. Then the moon exploded and… uh, then they were at Stonehenge for some reason? I think King Arthur was involved in some capacity, too.
I’m not alone in my thinking, as even fans of the franchise generally concede that The Last Knight was an unholy mess, which might explain why audiences stayed away in droves. It’s also probably why Hasbro and Paramount are hitting the big red reboot button and clearing away the last decade of explosion-heavy robotic Bayhem in favour of a fresh start. Perhaps perversely, the ultra bombastic story...

Hasbro revealed some big news today during Toy Fair 2018. It was there they announced that Paramount Pictures is planning on completely rebooting the Transformers film franchise after the release of director Travis Knight's Bumblebee: The Movie.
According to TWF2005, the studio has removed Transformers 6 from their upcoming list of Hasbro film, which currently includes Bumblebee in 2018, G.I. Joe in 2020, Micronauts in 2020, Dungeons and Dragons in 2021, and a "Paramount/Hasbro Event Film" in 2021.
It was also reported that Hasbro will have more control of the films based on their properties from here on out. That includes greenlighting any other movie projects.
This means that Michael Bay is 100% done with Transformers. The Last Knight was the final nail in the coffin. I'm actually pretty excited that the franchise will be getting a reboot! Maybe this time they will actually do it right!

The Transformers brand has proved to be a lucrative option for Hollywood. It’s made billions of dollars worldwide despite its diminishing returns, a type of vast financial benefit that causes studios to wonder: what other toys can we pilfer for entertainment? Well, Paramount now has its eyes on transforming – ahem – another of its properties into a fully-fledged cinematic world, as THR reports that the studio is developing a G.I. Joe movie universe. Together with Allspark, which is Hasbro’s film division, Paramount is planning “an interconnected, cross-property onscreen universe” set to include characters from G.I. Earlier this year, it was announced that Paramount created something of a "writer's room" for the next batch of films in the "Transformers" property. In a world of shared universes and spinoffs, big blockbuster productions seemed to be taking more and more of a hint from the land of television, where creating a long-lasting universe is more of a given. Heading up that writer's room was Academy Award-winning writer Akiva Goldsman, and joining him were tons of talented writers including Robert Kirkman, Zak Penn, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, Jeff Pinkner, and Steven DeKnight, among many others.
The jury is still out on whether or not this all will result in better "Transformers" films, but It seems like the folks over at Paramount are really liking the outcome of this experiment, and according to Deadline, they are now working to create writer's rooms for two other Hasbro properties: "G.I. Joe" and "Micronauts.

Flash Gordon is set to return to the big screen, as 20th Century Fox have today closed a deal to pick up the rights to the character in a package which has J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay on board to write the script.
The duo are currently hard at work on Star Trek 3, and producer John Davis (Chronicle, Man from U.N.C.L.E.) is spearheading the project and actually brought on George Nolfi (The Bourne Ultimatum, The Adjustment Bureau) to pen a treatment. Nolfi will now also serve as a producer on the movie.
Payne and McKay are also responsible for adapting graphic novel Boilerplate and a big screen take on 1970s toyline Micronauts for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, so it’s clear that they’ve impressed him enough to land a job on Star Trek 3 despite being relative newcomers.

With Star Wars heading back to theaters, it’s only natural that Flash Gordon follow suit. Ironically, it was the 1930s Flash Gordon serial that was a big influence on George Lucas, whose Star Wars movies then seemed to have an influence on the release of the campy Flash Gordon feature in 1980. This time, though, another adaptation of Alex Raymond’s sci-fi comic strip will be more tied to the Star Trek franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, hot new screenwriters J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, who worked on the next Trek installment, have been hired to script this other reboot. They’re working off a treatment by George Nolfi (The Adjustment Bureau), who’ll be producing with John Davis, of Predator, Waterworld and Norbit fame. That sounds like it’s in decent hands, though maybe hands that are too serious. And a Flash Gordon movie that’s taken seriously is going to be hard to accept...

Last we heard, Micronauts was set to head into production at Paramount with J.J. Abrams himself on board to direct, but that was a couple of years ago and there's been no word since. Now while speaking to Movies.com, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (yes we are getting a lot of updates from these lads lately!) give an update on the progress of the adaptation, and reveal a little of what we can expect from their screenplay. “We've written a couple of drafts of Micronauts and it's in the Paramount system now,” Wernick said. “We developed it with Bad Robot, and it's probably not what you might imagine a Micronauts movie to be.” The Micronauts were a series of action figures, vehicles, and playsets that were originally imported to the U.S. from Japan in 1974, inspiring a pretty damn good Marvel Comics series. But according to Reese, fans of...

I love Zombieland, maybe you could tell from an article I wrote earlier this week. It's a clever movie that expertly blends laughs with scares. This is partially due to the brilliant script written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Unfortunately, since then, none of their scripts have reached movie screens. Of course, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is finished but is in the middle of reshoots with Channing Tatum and a 3D post-conversion. Deadpool is still over at 20th Century Fox, with first time director Tim Miller attached to direct, but Ryan Reynolds has found himself without the career he had when the script was written. They also wrote a Venom film with Gary Ross intending to direct before he moved onto The Hunger Games; however, Columbia has showed interest in tying this film together with its new, rebooted Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Reese and Wernick scrapped plans for a Zombieland 2...

Ruben Fleischer has closed a pod deal with 20th Century Fox TV. The two-year pact will see the director-producer develop, direct and executive produce new comedy and drama projects for network and cable TV. As a part of the deal, the Gangster Squad helmer will launch a new production company to be based at Fox. “We were so taken with Zombieland, it has such an original tone. The mix of scary and funny—he’s just incredibly creative. He has the greatest skill set, and we know he has what it takes to create a hit television show,” 20th Century Fox TV chair Dana Walden told Deadline today. Fleischer, who made his feature directorial debut with 2009’s Zombieland and followed up with 2011′s 30 Minutes Or Less, is producing the indie Two Night Stand, which Mike Nichols’ son Max is attached to direct. Fleischer started out directing music video and commercials.

Fox is moving two concepts from movies to television. The network is partnering with Sony Pictures Television to bring Zombieland to the small screen, in the form of a half-hour comedy, and working with Marvel on a cop procedural based on the comic book anti-hero The Punisher.
A “Zombieland” show once a week will likely be bittersweet news for fans of the 2009 genre-blender. Because while the movie’s screenwriters, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, will write the potential TV series, THR reports it will replace any possible movie sequel. The apocalyptic comedy started in 2005 as a spec television script, and Wernick and Reese haven’t given up on that original goal, despite a $75.6 million hit featuring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and a memorable cameo by Bill Murray. (The cameo was originally written for Patrick Swayze.)

While 2009's Zombieland didn't exactly start the current zombie craze, it's success at the box office certainly proved that zombies could be profitable as well. Soon after its release, a 3-D sequel was confirmed by director Ruben Fleischer, but two years later, Zombieland 2 has yet to arrive, with Fleischer saying in July that the sequel was stuck in the "not-happening-process." It may yet succeed as a TV show.

No Doubt spurred on by the $2.7billion earnings of the three Transformers movies - with almost half of that from the most recent robot adventure - toymakers Hasbro want to continue box office domination.
We previously revealed that another film was in the pipeline with Jason Statham tipped to be taking the lead.
Hasbro chief executive Brian Goldner has now given the first official word on the next film, stating that the company is in talks with Paramount, producer Steven Spielberg and director Michael Bay over Transformers 4.
Bay previously suggested he wouldn't helm the next instalment but is apparently still interested in directing, while star Shia Labeouf has said he doesn't want to return.
Variety reports that the plan is to make a fourth and fifth film together, thus saving money on special effects and actor negotiations and allowing more time for toy designs. It also mentioned that there is...

If there’s any reason to be optimistic about G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, it would have to be the screenwriting credit attributed to Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the duo behind the clever and entertaining Zombieland. (And, should this movie ever go into production, the same could be said about the X-Men spin-0ff, Deadpool.) This rule almost applies to yet another one of Paramount’s Hasbro-based movies, Micronauts, as Deadline reports that they’ve landed the writers gig on the “priority project.” I only say “almost” because this is being produced by J.J. Abrams — a man that, depending on who you ask, normally aligns himself with entertaining-yet-smart material.
Not knowing what Micronauts are, I did some digging (read: looked up Micronauts on Wikipedia) and discovered that they’re a Japanese toy line consisting of “action figures, vehicles, robots, play sets, and accessories.” The Japanese version, called Microman, even helped...

J.J. Abrams' attempt at adapting a toy line for the big screen has finally found its writers. His interest in adapting Hasbro's action figures Micronauts into a feature film was first announced back in 2009, but now it seems like production is finally ready to head in front of the camera. Deadline has the news that "Zombieland" scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have been hired by Paramount and Abrams to pen the script's first draft.
Paramount only recently acquired the toy property from Hasbro, despite the fact Abrams has been sitting on it for two years. Wernick and Reese are no strangers to adapting toy franchises for the big screen. They also wrote the screenplay for "G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation," which is currently in production. The writing duo is also responsible for Fox's X-Men spin-off "Deadpool."

If you're a fan of Ruben Fleischer's Zombieland, listen up! We've got a pair of Zombieland-related news stories for you this week, starting with an update on the sequel. As it turns out, Zombieland 2 probably not happening in the form you might expect. A couple of years ago, the original film opened to $24 million and Sony seemed pretty eager to get a sequel off the ground. A script was written but it has been slow to get a greenlight, partially due to scheduling complications (Emma Stone, in particular, is busy with The Amazing Spider-Man). Now word on the street is that Fox is teaming up with Sony to develop it for the small screen instead. Why would they suddenly want to bring Zombieland to television? Why, because of the success of AMC's The Walking Dead, of course! According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures Television is producing...

Oh Boy, Another Movie Based on Toys!: Hasbro, the people who brought you all those Transformers movies, is moving forward on a plan to transform their toyline Micronauts into a movie. Writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Zombieland) have been hired; J.J. Abrams is one of the producers. The project was first announced in December 2009. (Deadline) California Dreaming: Aaron Eckhart will play the titular role in The Drummer, a biographical portrait of Dennis Wilson. Wilson was a founding member of The Beach Boys and served as the group's drummer until his untimely death in 1983, when he drowned at the age of 39. Eckhart, by the way, is 43. The next Hasbro toyline to be made into a movie is Micronauts, a toyline of "inner" space action figures from the 1970s, with Zombieland/Deadpool writing team Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick creating the screenplay for J.J. Abrams and Paramount Pictures. The toys, which are super lame by today's toy standards, do have a mythology : Marvel created a comic book series to accompany the toys in 1977.
The fact the toyline already has fully developed characters with a history will help combat the recent criticism that erupted after the Battleship trailer hit. The new thinking is that it's not that easy to create a credible movie from a toy or game that doesn't already have flushed-out events and adventures.
Hasbro has an 8-picture deal with Paramount Pictures. Hasbro has said it will not become a movie studio like Marvel.

Yesterday we broke the news that Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner is looking to work on sequels for Transformers 4 and 5 with Paramount and that they could be shooting back to back. Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese have been hired to write a script for Micronauts, a movie based on the popular Hasbro toy for producer J.J. Abrams and Paramount Pictures.
Paramount struck a deal with Hasbro for the property recently, and it's considered a priority project behind the planned Transformers 4. Abrams will produce through his Bad Robot Productions.
Wernick and Reese broke out with Zombieland and have since worked on G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, the planned Deadpool spinoff from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and the expected Zombieland 2.
Micronauts is the American version of Japan's Microman toy line. They first showed up in the States in 1976 through Mego Corporation who ended the line in 1980. The toys had a revival in 2002-2003 through Palisades Toys and then again when Hasbro announced plans to launch a new line of Micronauts, which also coincided with the news that Abrams was developing the movie that's now set up at Paramount.

It's a busy time for Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. They were just announced as the screenwriters for the Micronauts film that Hasbro is developing with J.J. Abrams, and now the two are officially in the Zombieland fold once more. But this isn't for that Zombieland sequel that most of the principals have been talking about ever since the first film turned into a surprise hit. There's been a lot of doubt that a theatrical sequel would ever come together, thanks to difficulties with scheduling and the higher salary quotes for several of the actors. Instead this is about a development that could put Zombieland where it will really be able to have fun: on television. (Which, if you've paid close attention to related interviews over the years, you might recall being the original home for the project before it ever turned into a theatrical feature.) Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese just secured a deal to bring their 2009 comedy Zombieland to the small screen but they are in the news today for an even bigger project they are working on. Deadline reports that the duo have been set by Hasbro, Paramount and Bad Robot to write the Micronauts blockbuster movie that J.J. Wernick & Reese have wrote the upcoming G.I. Yesterday in our story on the possibility of a fourth Transformers movie, we mentioned that Hasbro were also looking to bring the Micronauts to the big screen. Well now more news on that possible adaptation has surfaced over at Deadline, who report that Zombieland and G.I. Joe 2 scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are penning the script for a Micronauts movie for producer J.J. Abrams and studio Paramount.
For those unfamiliar with the brand, they were a series of 3.75-inch action figures created by Japanese toy company Takara, whose story was later fleshed out by Marvel Comics:
The Micronauts originate in the Microverse, a microscopic series of diverse habitats that are linked together in the fashion of molecule chains. The original team comes together in response to the threat posed by former academic and now murderous dictator, Baron Karza. As soon as Transformers: Dark of The Moon crossed the $1 billion worldwide mark it should have became clear to everyone that this wasn’t a movie franchise Paramount and toy-making property licensers Hasbro were going to just let die. Another Hasbro toyline is getting a movie and it's not more Transformers thankfully.
