Small town policing is hilarious
billsoccer17 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I know there will be a rush to judgement about this series 'picking' on cops, but if you're from a small town - or you've been paying attention to all the reversals of convictions this century - you'll recognize that cops are "only" human. In this case, EXCEEDINGLY so. Pam is getting away with the killing and now implicating the dead womans husband with great effect. Not even the fact of benefitting from $150,000 of the life insurance (instead of the girls who Pam says she mens it for) wakes up the prosecution.

Weaker episode

After an excellent first episode, this was not as good. Still engaging, but a little ponderous. Interesting interplay on the social and legal dynamics with the close knit nature of the town thwarting reasonable crime solving. The exaggerated combined stupidity/blindness of law enforcement is somewhat grating and becoming an empty over-the-top parody.

Nothing exceptional

While this episode added a few new characters it felt like the same old information recycled and only a few new tidbits. Acting was decent but just a mediocre story.

Cahoots!!

We are presented here with an almost Soviet kind of mentality. It's an episode where a small town is the real enemy to the poor guy who is being railroaded. Gossip and small talk are bantered where people have decided to think the worst of a man they don't even know--sticking up for a murder victim they don't even know. We also have the fix in. The judge and the prosecutor drink together during the trial. And good old Pam jsut makes up story after story. We already are seeing the utter fear in the faces of those who support her whims. The biggest thing that the prosecutor focuses on is getting the better of a big time lawyer. Of course, we know the end of the story already.
