The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the fourth announced yesterday. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on CBS.
The Eye continued its reign as the #1-rated network this past season. Its procedurals (NCIS, CSI, Criminal Minds, Mentalist) dominate the marketplace, about half its sitcoms (The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men) are strong performers, and though it only launched four shows last Fall it turned two of them (Good Wife, NCIS: La) into major hits.
The network isn't resting on its laurels though as this year it launches three dramas and two comedies in the Fall, and the high-profile "Criminal Minds" spin-off mid-season. As a result some long running dramas like "Cold Case," "Ghost Whisperer" and "Numb3rs" along with its more recent and lesser performing sitcoms have all been given the axe.

Patton Oswalt has taken a stroll away from starring in "Beach Lane."
The comedian was set to star as lazy millionaire heir James in the series, but following a table read Tuesday (April 13), he's no longer going to take the role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It's not certain if that means he's leaving the show altogether or if he'll take another part.
In "Beach Lane," the character James is tasked with running a struggling newspaper in the Hamptons. He hires a famous writer (Matthew Broderick) to help him save it. Kristen Johnston has also been cast in the multi-camera series.
Deadline claims that there are already three names lined up to possibly take over the James role: Nick Thune, Michael McMillian and John Forest.
Of the three, probably the most recognizable is McMillian, who played Fellowship of the Son leader Steve Newlin on HBO's "True Blood." Thune is a...

Carla Gugino will bring the sex to "Californication's" legal briefs.
The actress, who recently played a porn actress in the South by Southwest debut of "Electra Luxx," will guest star as a defense attorney for the series' fourth season, the network announced Thursday (April 15).
Gugino will appear in 10 of the 12 episodes for the comedy.
Novelist Hank Moody (David Duchovny) is in trouble yet again thanks to his rampant horndog tendencies. That fling he had with then-underage fake stepdaughter Mia (Madeline Zima)? Well, she's gone public and that's never a good thing. Abby (Gugino) the lawyer is just what he needs to keep him from life behind bars, but can he for once keep it in his pants?

CBS and Josh Schwartz have done a late bit of recasting on their comedy pilot "Hitched," replacing Kristin Kreuk as the female lead.
Kreuk, who did a guest arc on Schwartz's NBC show "Chuck" earlier this season, will be replaced by Sara Fletcher (Comedy Central's "Secret Girlfriend"), Deadline.com reports. The show is about two newlyweds (Fletcher and Jack Carpenter) who get married before they really know each other and their respective families.
"Hitched" would have been the first sitcom role for Kreuk, who's best known for playing Lana Lang on "Smallville." She showed some comedic chops during her turn on "Chuck," but according to Deadline, "Hitched" "ultimately proved not a good fit for her."
The show, which also stars Sharon Lawrence, Kurtwood Smith and Eugene Levy, made the switch just as the cast was about to do its table read on Wednesday (April 14). The pilot, which Schwartz co-wrote with "Chuck" writer-producer Matt Miller,...

Josh Schwartz has swapped out Smallville's Kristin Kreuk for Sara Fletcher for the lead of his comedy pilot Hitched. The half-hour comedy format apparently wasn't a good fit for Kreuk, but I choose to think Fletcher just took advantage of her huge stash of Kryptonite. (And, yes, I realize that doesn't make any sense, Superman fans. Just roll with me here.) [Deadline] Vera Farmiga has nabbed a starring role in A Thousand Guns. The film is an indie Western, and not a movie about a Jersey Shore-area gym. [Variety] Bill Haber and Tina Brown have optioned Laura Lippman's In a Strange City for a TV series.

Exclusive: In a last-minute recasting, Sara Fletcher has been tapped as the female lead on Josh Schwartz’s comedy pilot for CBS Hitched. Fletcher replaces Smallville alumna Kristin Kreuk, who was originally cast in the role. The switch was made Wednesday, just before the multicamera pilot’s table read. Kreuk starred on two drama series, including her star-making turn on Smallville, and she was wonderful in an arc on Schwartz's NBC dramedy Chuck this season but she has never done a half-hour sitcom and Hitched ultimately proved not a good fit for her. "Hitched" has added a matriarch.
Sharon Lawrence has joined CBS' "Hitched," the comedy pilot by Josh Schwartz and Matt Miller, says The Hollywood Reporter.
She'll play the meddling mom to Rachel (Kristin Kreuk) a newlywed who just tied the knot to Brett (Jack Carpenter).
Previously cast are Thomas Middleditch as the hopeless romantic friend and Riki Lindhome as the Rachel's Bff.
Other TV news:

Guest star extraordinaire Sharon Lawrence (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Community, Drop Dead Diva, Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives) gets a series-regular role on Josh Schwartz's CBS comedy pilot Hitched. (Not that she hasn't been a great series regular, too, but it's been a while since her NYPD Blue days.) The pilot centers on the tribulations of a newly married couple played by Kristin Kreuk (Smallville, Chuck) and Jason Carpenter. With Lawrence playing Kreuk's nosy mom and Eugene Levy as Carpenter's ladies'-man father -- plus Schwartz's knack for wit -- this is one pilot that's shaping up with a lot of potential.

The joke about CBS is that it might as well stand for Crimes Being Solved. Every night of the week on the network, bad guys are brought to justice by cops, crime labs, psychics, fake psychics and profilers. Occasionally even the "Ghost Whisperer" helps turn the wheels of justice.
Then again, it's hard to argue with success. CBS is enjoying another solid season in the ratings, and the past few times the network tried going way off-brand with dramas, well, we got "The Ex List," "Viva Laughlin" and "Swingtown" (though the latter, we maintain, was underrated).
So on the drama front this year, you can expect to see more of the same. As for comedies, CBS has become the home for well-crafted multi-camera sitcoms, and it's going almost exclusively with that format in its development this year.
Here's a look at some of the projects that have caught our eye.

ABC won't reveal the fate of the sitcom until May, but the outlook was negative enough until this: Donald Faison has signed on to lead a new pilot.
Will Eric actually hook up with Sookie this season on True Blood? - Sage, Austin, Texas
There will continue to be sexual tension between the pair, but no True Blood spoilers reveal any actual sex. We will meet both of Eric's parents in flashbacks, however. We'll also see him topless a lot, so female readers can stop asking us about that. Every single day.

After landing a recurring role in "Chuck", Kristin Kreuk will be adding another television credit to her resume. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 27-year-old actress has been tapped as one of the leads on a new comedy pilot for CBS, titled "Hitched". She will be starring opposite "I Love You, Beth Cooper" actor Jack Carpenter.
The "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li" star and her 25-year-old co-star will take on the role of a newly married couple who is still learning about each other while surrounded by their family and friends. This TV project reunites her with "Chuck" co-creator Josh Schwartz, who co-wrote the new comedy with Matt Miller.
The half-hour sitcom "Hitched" will be produced by Warner Bros. "Night at the Museum 2: Battle of the Smithsonian" actor Eugene Levy has been cast earlier to portray Jack Carpenter's on-screen father. His character is described as a tracksuit-wearing four-times-divorced lothario.

CBS' comedy project based on the Twitter sensation S*** My Dad Says has landed the dad in question: Emmy winner William Shatner.
Also at CBS, Kristin Kreuk will continue working with "Chuck" boss Josh Schwartz in his comedy pilot "Hitched."
The Shatner project -- which doesn't have an official title yet -- is based on Justin Halpern's massively followed Twitter feed (1.1 million-plus as of Friday). The casting of Shatner ("Boston Legal," "Star Trek") makes the pilot a go, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Halpern, a writer who moved in with his parents last year -- thus putting him in proximity to stuff his dad says -- co-wrote the script with Patrick Schumacker. "Will & Grace" creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan are executive producing.
- Kreuk, meanwhile, will play one of the two lead roles in "Hitched," a comedy about newlyweds who don't really know each other yet. Jack Carpenter ("I Love You Beth Cooper,...

It’s no secret we love TV. We watch it, talk about it, review it and generally spend a lot of time with it. So, it should come as no surprise we’re very interested in what new shows may potentially be coming to the networks in the near future.
Fortunately, we don’t have to do a lot of work to find out, and you have to do even less, because the guys and gals at EW have gathered together lists of all of the 2010-2011 season pilot orders for ABC, CBS and NBC. Wasn’t that nice of them? Yes, yes it was.
Just between these three networks (we’ll bring you Fox and the others, including cable, later), 31 dramas and 29 comedies are being considered. What shows will make it to the Fall schedule is still anyone’s guess, and we’ll have to wait until May to find out,...

"Smallville" veteran Kristin Kreuk and Jack Carpenter have landed the leads in the CBS romantic-comedy pilot "Hitched." [We're not suggesting this news should cause "Chuck" fans to be a bit less worried about Hannah-and-Chuck, but...] "Hitched" is co-written by Josh Schwartz and Matt Miller and focuses Rachel and Brett Applebaum, who get married after only nine months together and are still figuring out the whole relationship thing. Eugene Levy joined the "Hitched" pilot earlier in the week as the father of the groom, an oft-married lothario. Kreuk has most recently been seen guest starring on "Chuck,"...

All of you Chuck fans that are less than enthralled with Hannah coming between Chuck and Sarah, I have great news for you. Michael Ausiello is reporting that Hannah's portrayer, Kristin Kreuk, has been cast in Hitched, a new CBS sitcom pilot created by Josh Schwartz (not coincidentally, the creator of Chuck). Hitched, which also stars Jack Carpenter and Eugene Levy, centers on a newlywed couple and how they handle their nascent marriage. Should the show be picked up, Ms. Kreuk would then be unavailable to return to Chuck to further interfere with the inevitable pairing of Chuck and Sarah. You Chuck and Sarah (Charah? Shuck?) 'shippers out there will be able to breathe easy.
Make sure to check out the list of all the potential pilots being developed by the networks, and check back at TVOvermind for all future pilot, casting and general TV news.

Smallville alum Kristin Kreuk and Jack Carpenter (The Return of Jezebel James) are set to star in CBS' Josh Schwartz-produced comedy pilot, Hitched, sources confirm. The half-hour sitcom revolves around — yep, you guessed it — a newly-married couple who return from their honeymoon only to discover that their relationship has only just begun. Kreuk is currently recurring on Chuck, which is also produced by Schwartz. It's all starting to make sense!

CBS may have created two of the most popular new series this season - NCIS: La and The Good Wife - but the network still has some bare spots to contend with (we hardly knew ye, Three Rivers!) Not one to stray from its bread and butter shows, the network's got a Criminal Minds spinoff in the works plus a new project from CSI honcho Carol Mendelsohn, but all eyes are on its redux of Hawaii Five-o starring Lost's Daniel Dae Kim. And don't think CBS is resting on its laurels with the (unfathomable) success of Gary, Unmarried...
