Mexico location was terrible
marie_salinas200420 January 2023
This location used looks nothing like Mexico. Not sure if this was low budgeting or simply a time constraint, but it was sad to see. The beauty of Mexico was denied. Mexico is colorful, old and has a very vibrant feel. This looks like a set with props made to look like Mexico and falls short. Big time. It was definitely an opportunity missed.

That being said, I am beginning to like the characters. Acting is slow in some places, but the background characters fill in the gaps. The main character, Jess seems to come up with answers to clues a little too fast and almost seems unbelievable, too contrived.

I am looking forward to what the next episodes bring.

Warning: Spoilers
This show has been mildly entertaining... up till now.

Being a copy of the hit franchise starring Nicholas Cage, it tries to offer a modernized twist on the same old plot of treasure hunting.

The main character Jess Valenzuela, played by Lisette Olivera, is a super smart puzzle solver who divines answers from obscure bits of information. She ends up finding out that she is part of an ancient secret society and is set on a path to hunt for the same treasure her father hunted.

Of course there is a super-villain played by Catherine Zeta Jones who is also chasing after the same treasure.

Episode by episode, the story asks viewers to follow along to the edge of the cliff where believable and unbelievable meet. Unfortunately this episode pushes the audience off the cliff.

In my opinion, Olivera fails to exhibit the emotional depth one might expect from someone learning the shocking and devastating news that her character Jess uncovers. This emotional moment comes across like unconvincing crocodile tears. Weak acting skills aside, the plot takes a nose dive when Jess decides she is going to break her father, who she thought was dead, out of a Mexican prison.

After standing at the edge of the cliff for 7 episodes, this episode pushes the audience over the edge and expects them to hold on for more.
