Until the Next One

This is another of the decent and occasionally amusing puff-pieces surrounding Doctor Who which have been produced in such numbers that they bid fair to soon outnumber the number of Doctor Who products -- assuming, of course, you don't count the magazines, books, spin-offs like Torchwood and K-9, the comic books and radio dramas....

Well, Doctor Who is Big Business, and I'm not sneering -- I'm a fan of the TV show, particularly in its revived incarnation. But this is hardly the ultimate guide. There will be plenty more. What this one-hour piece does is give you a brief history of the series and introduce the new production team, which as of 2010 will be led by Steven Moffat and Piers Wenger. Good enough.

Doctor Who: The Ultimate Guide

It's interesting revisiting this now as we head into the 60th Anniversary, as this was made as we went into the 50th. Goodness, hasn't 'Doctor Who' rather crashed since this point.

Back when Matt Smith was the Doctor (but possibly more during the David Tennant era) the show was popular for everyone. It was big Saturday night entertainment that rivalled Ant and Dec.

Now it's shunted off to Sunday nights, rather unloved the BBC, and seeminly its last showrunner, who seemed to relish in raking it apart bit by bit.

So looking back at this is a trip back to much happier times. Looking back at when the show was fun.

It's also fun to see which of the talking heads are still relevant today.
