[4.3] Healed forever indeed
cjonesas10 January 2024
A spiritually interesting movie, surely not that bad as the average ratings and few reviews show, has redeeming "hypnotic" qualities and as a matter of fact Guinevere Turner played her part well given the thin script.

The whole concept and logic are unrealistic, the movie is not. Had it had a bigger budget, more people and a group of 10 divided into 5 couples and the executive "healing" team was a least thrice as large, it would have bore real thrill and a much more enjoyable experience.

This movie is so poorly executed, but the plot is on another level

Warning: Spoilers
Do you know these types of low budget movies that you know they're bad from the 1st minute, but still intrigued to see what's the deal with it? Well, that's one of those movies and I sincerely advise you - do not watch it! It was poorly made, the actors are so bad - even during a scene where the main characters were supposed to sing and have fun it is so fake. Besides this, the plot is just so bad , that trust me... it's unwatchable - two women in a queer relationship go to a meditation retreat where there's just the two of them and the lady in charge is an evil hag who wants to make them not be gay. Yes, you read that well, more of a comedy than a thriller. Of course, it's got a happy ending where the good prevails. Such a boring fairytale. A hard pass, do not lose your time!

A thought-provoking low budget thriller

I don't understand the low ratings for the movie!! If you give this film 1 star where can you possibly go for utter dross like, oh I don't know Ghost Shark? I just despair...

Yes, it's low budget, but it was a good effort. The plot was pretty clever, and quite unsettling (shines a spotlight on the horrible hypocrisy of America and it's so called Christian values). The acting was decent, particularly from the leads with believable chemistry, if a little hammy at times from the lesser characters.

The nutty doctor had a suitably unnerving quality about her leaving you a touch on edge, and I thought the film built up the tension throughout at a good pace. An abrupt but satisfying ending.

I would have probably gone for a 6.5/10 as a fair rating but bumped it up to try to push this to a more deserving overall rating.

Super clever low budget flick

I watched this indie after seeing a critics review on Film Threat. I'm always searching for new LGBT films was honestly surprised by how clever and relevent the story was. It was a pleasent mix of Black Mirror and Get Out with an LGBT lead story.

The actors were well chosen and I thought the lead couple had really realistic chemistry. I got a real kick seeing Guinevere Turner in the role of an evil doctor. Although I guess it's not too much of a stretch from how evil her character Gabby Devoe was on the L Word!

The film had the same pitfalls as all low budget Indies. The budget is small, locations, minimal and story limited because of all those things. But once you get past that there is a clever story being told and I really like it.

Earper Thumbs Up!

Warning: Spoilers
I saw Emily Andreas talking about this film on X and had to check it out. I was happy to find that it starred Emily Goss (Seasons of Love). Loved her in that and loved her in this. Her character was complex to say the least and she was amazing.

The story is a little far fetched but that is the point. No-one is meant to believe that an app could actually control us. It's a metaphor and a clever one at that!

This film would have benefitted from a bigger budget but as an LGBTQ+ watcher I'm used to having to look past lower budget production. I've seen a lot worse and the story kept me invested so I give it an Earper thumbs up!
