I liked this episode, except...

Warning: Spoilers
Can someone please explain to me why Jordan had to apologise for being upset that his girlfriend kissed someone else, but she didn't have to apologise for anything? And, to top it off, he got her a present (she has never given him anything), he set up a romantic date by the lake (which she promptly bailed on), and she "forgot" a lunch date with her boyfriend to spend time with another girl who she's clearly attracted to... and she is the one that's "bold and honest"? Cool.

I'm sorry, but I didn't realise that being bisexual means you can get with anyone you want even if you have a partner, and that everyone else needs to apologise for being hurt if you cheat on them - but hey, we can't possibly portray anyone of the LGBTQIXTA+ community in any negative light whatsoever.

The show is a good one, but if we continue down this road of having LGBTQIXTA+ people represented, they need to be represented like every other person. Cheating on someone is cheating on someone, and for that person to make their partner apologise for being hurt by their cheating, if that's what this show is, then this is going to be another Batwoman flop.

A bait and switch I can get behind

Warning: Spoilers
I was so excited for Doomsday this episode. When he turned up in the containment suit it was awesome.

However, when we get the reveal that its a Bizarro Superman instead, I wasn't even mad.

Here I am wanting Doomsday, Cyborg Superman & Mongul to appear. And I totally forgot about the iconic Bizarro.

Also, I'm so glad that Tyler is playing him too. And I love the weird 'cracking' effect they did to his skin.

Intense episode all around! I love how this show
ldamena26 January 2022
Mixes the family drama with the action= A+ it gives all the characters their moments in the sun an never misses a beat. Albeit a little slower than the first two episodes of S2 still a pretty solid & strong episode. This show has an amazing cast! And the CGI is impressive feels like I'm watching a movie. Those action scenes? 100%. Man, the twist: the villain reveal! I'm still in shock but happy to see a version in the small screen. Episode 4 looks intense too!

A step up this season
thetypingavocado26 January 2022
I feel like Tyler Hoechlin has gotten better this season. Bitsie is still my favorite live action Lois Lane, and Jon and Jordan are good. I love John Henry Irons. And I dig the twist. I also like how they make the most out of their budget, with their CGI.

No sophomore slump here

Warning: Spoilers
Show just keeps getting better and better. Still can't believe the movie equivalent effects. Outstanding. So this is not Doomsday but Bizarro Superman?? Looking forward to the answer. On top of the action and effects the family dynamics and interpersonal relationships are all intriguing to watch. This show rarely has filler moments. Kudos to all the cast for their top notch acting. At this point the CW's only remaining grace. And who will play Lois's sister? It'd be great if it was the actress who played Lois on Smallville but that'd probably be too confusing for some.

Very interesting episode
gamingshitz26 January 2022
We finally got a glimpse of what superman is dealing with, and it was not what I was expecting not even close, I don't wanna give any spoilers, let's just say I'm very excited to see where this goes, We also saw Kal El lose control a bunch of times in this episode, which just gave me chills. Yeah, this was definitely not my favorite episode, coz a few scenes annoyed me a bit but it's not bad either.

The Thing in the Mines gives us some great character development and drama, whilst also progressing the story forward
Holt34427 January 2022
Gregory Smith returns to direct the third episode of Superman and Lois. This episode has Clark's visions becoming worse whilst the threat enlarges, we also get to see more of Lana running for mayor and Lois personal arc with General Lane making his first appearance in the second season. I can only praise the script and direction, Gregory Smith did a terrific job and a big reason is him being an actor himself and a great director too. There's also some great cinematography and the visual effects are also strong, keeping the same quality from the previous season if not better. But back to the direction, Gregory Smith nailed it with this episode, showing once again how he's perfect for the show as his visual storytelling and simply getting the characters and story, it's perfect.

The Thing in the Mines continues the previous episodes plot and character arcs, whilst bringing us the reveal of the big bad and honestly more of the good stuff. Katie Aldrin & Juliana James wrote the script for this episode and I couldn't see any flaws regarding the writing in this episode, it was the quality we are used in seeing and the same is said regarding the other departments, the quality is there. Whilst the previous episodes were more character driven and building up the villain and mostly focusing on character development. This episode does the opposite as it's more plot focused, but the character drama is still there and the writing is overall quite great, even the teenagers dialogue is excellent in this episode. Seeing the villain in person I don't want to spoil anything but I was a little bit disappointed but I hope it'll improve in the next couple of episodes.

I appreciate the work the writers, producers and well everyone who's working on this show, Superman and Lois is a show so very human. Comparing this to another show in the Arrowverse is something I'm unable to do now days, the quality is higher in every way. Especially the writing, pacing and acting. These characters act like human beings and that's why so many tune into this spectacular show. The conversations matter and each scene is there for a purpose, which I can't really say about the other shows now days. This season is really off to a great start, I absolutely loved this episode.

Gotta disagree with most...
kitano029 January 2022
I loved, loved, loved the first season. Couldn't believe how good it was. But, I can already see signs of "CW creep" in this season. I'm a pretty liberal guy, but the "woke" dynamic is beginning to be a bit much. I can still appreciate the beautiful production design and cinematography, but the addition of Natalie (who in one episode seemed to change hairstyles for every scene) under the roof, and the "I kissed a girl and I liked it" storyline between Sarah and Jordan is really bad. And I think Tyler Hoechlin is a great Superman, but damn, please shave. I hate to see this show go the way of other CW shows, but I can see that slowly happening already.

Warning: Spoilers
Superman senses something in the mines, he flies out o the location but experiences another episode which causes him to go flying impacting a grassy landscape. Clark expresses this to Lois and Iron in the barn. Iron orders for Clark to call Sam. Jordan discusses his worries about Sarah to Jonathan with being interrupted by Nat joining in the conversation. Kyle and Lana are having some big plans for the future of Smallville with Kyle leaving. Lois gets a call from her dad asking him about the mines. Jordan expresses telling Sarah that his dad is Superman, stuff like wanting to marry her, but Clark refuses to let out a demonic scream. Lois decides to drop them off for School. Dang. Later, the two have a brief discussion about him.

In school, Sarah stumbles upon Jordan for a bit explaining that "the kiss" isn't some big deal, but Jordan shuts himself up before telling her about the truth walking away. Lana calls for a gathering in the diner. Clark and Lois meet up with General Lane and Iron about the mines with Clark leaving. Lois shows her dad a podcast that is spreading misinformation which can spread harmful lies, but the two argue. Lois makes it up that she'll do this alone. Another round of Football occurs. Jonathan pushes a fellow punching him because of some stuff about drugs. Hell. Clark gets punched by Jonathan, Clark immediately brings him to a building lashing out at him.

The two arrive at the Kent Farm with the two walking in. Lois orders the boys to go upstairs, confronting Clark. Clark explains that something Krypontstion is affecting him. Kyle and Lana arrive back home from the gathering that was ruined by a fellow pushing Lana's buttons. Lois tells Clark that he should apologize to the boys. Clark expresses his concerns about all of this. Lois tells Clark that he won't be leaving out of the house until Henry comes back. Speaking about Henry, he is roaming around the mines with a woman discovering blood on X-K, but is betrayed by the woman.

Clark apologizes to the boys, orders Jonathan to go, and discuss with Jordan. The woman sets off detonation devices. In the RV, General Lane discusses with Lois Lucy and Ally. Sarah expresses her worries about Jordan that she kissed a girl at camp to Lana. Sarah brings Lana in which she has an idea. Lois has another brief talk with Clark in which Clark is having another episode telling her it's breaking out. A mysterious figure stands in the mines with soldiers surrounding and firing at it, but it's bulletproof.

It lifts a car throwing it until Superman arrives! John is informed that it escaped the mine ordering his battle armor to join in the fight. Yeah, that's not Doomsday. Bizzaro? It escapes in the air. The team relocated to the Kent House. So, it might be a doppelgänger, but not the Superman that is from John's World. Nat expresses her concern to her dad. Lois farewells Clark to meet up with her sister.

Sarah records a video of Lana in her kitchen being asked questions and answering them. Jordan walks in with Kyle's permission to see Sarah showing her a case that contains his grandmother's jewelry to apologize which in fact, works. Jonathan meets up with Candice. Lois meets with Not-Lucy. The mysterious figure arrives at the Fortress of Solitude revealing itself to be BIZZARO. Jesus Christ, I never thought I would ever see Bizzaro in live-action again.

Thoughts?

Finally, some action! Tons of character development like General Lane isn't what he was in Season 1, but has grown softer rather than having that serious harsh tone, Lois getting it all together, and the stuff with Jordan. I will always keep on saying this and never stop - the characters feel so real with having problems and more exploration within their character.

More interesting story set-up, brilliant dialogue + writing, better pacing than the last episode, great performances all around, good subverting of expectations about the villain reveal like I thought we were going to see Doomsday since we got hints that references him in some manner, plus the cinematography is killing it! John and Nat are still adapting to their new life which is still interesting. Nat is getting along with the boys well. The pep talk with Clark between his sons was well done, shocking moments where Clark lashes out at his sons and you just wonder what is exactly causing this?

I do have four problems with this episode is that the first 20 minutes were eh, but it manages to be better than that later on + the subplot with Lana being the Mayor was uninteresting and barely has to do anything with the main storyline. But it was charming having a mother & daughter moment, and what a way seeing the problem between Jordan and Sarah concluded.

What I mean is, they still love each other, BUT the cheating context is yikes like the choice of whether you should forgive someone that was cheating on you. Still, it's a horrible thing to do. I am not an expert about all of this romantic relationship stuff- yeah, I don't even know. It's icky. The final thing is the subplot of Jonathan doesn't grab my attention.

"You got to be freakin' kidding me. Freakin' joke. Look at this. Ryan just, uh... posted another freshmen thirst trap."

8-9/10.

Pushing the agenda.
dinoplahutnik4 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The episode was good. Like the Bizzaro Superman, hope they will explain where he came from (because the hole in the ground is not cutting it).

However, like some others have pointed out, the main story is actually not getting much time, and it feels like everything else is at the forefront. And when you decide to give so much time to other stuff, the sci-fi aspect suffers. The show is called "Superman and Lois", so one should expect a different take, more personal stuff, there is a whole family now etc. However, what should not be implied is the part in which (again) the "message" is being pushed, and (again) at the expense of logic, truth and justice.

Now, the suspension of disbelief really needs to kick in this type of a show (only a pair of glasses is enough to hide that Clark is Superman) and I am very clear on this. However, when you depict the usual, every day, family stuff, those need to (or at least should) be realistic.

Two things are bothering me. I like how Jon and Jordan are portrayed. They are teenagers, with both flaws and virtues, doing boys stuff, brotherly stuff, stupid stuff and every once in a while, some not so stupid stuff. In general the teenage characters were done in a good, realistic way. But, in comes Natalie, perfect in every way (except when she needs to be a plot device). A very confident wunderkind on one side, cannot do anything wrong, very mature, giving people advice etc. However, when the plot needs it, she is a very insecure person constantly lashing out. I hate to say it, but I have a sneaking sensation that the need to portray her in such a cool fashion (including the hairstyles - a year and a half of hair grew in a month) comes from a need to satisfy a social justice perspective. Can she be even more perfect? Can she do anything wrong? Is this allowed (for her to be wrong)? How will her character grow? Also, too much make up.

Second thing is the conclusion of the Sarah - Jordan issue. So, Sarah cheats on Jordan, he is hurt, does not how to cope. She does not really feels remorse (Sarah: "I'm not ashamed or embarrassed"), Jordan is perceived as a problem (Lana: "if that happens (Jordan never forgiving her treachery), he does not deserve you"), there is no "it will not happen again", just a stupid "it did not mean anything". Let's face it, if it was the other way around (like it is usually portrayed), Jordan would have to plea and beg, and PROVE he loves her. And she would be right to doubt whether it was true. Instead we get a very wrong (Lana about Sarah) "You've always know exactly who you are, and you've never been afraid to show that person to the world." She CHEATED on him, it was WRONG, she made a MISTAKE. She should think about why she did it, and why she should not do it again. Why is this not recognized? This is what I mentioned above; you cannot just introduce the bizzaro twist also to this part of the show. There is not one second of displaying remorse; there is not one second of a mother trying to explain to her daughter that cheating is not okay. There is no lesson, no chance for redemption.

The writers try to make Sarah look better than Jordan because she did not keep it as a secret, and we should just forget that the real issue is that she CHEATED. This sends a really wrong message that betraying another person's confidence is okay, as long you admit you have done it. No it is not okay. I am not even going to go into the normalisation of same-sex relations through 15 year old characters. So, nowadays parents just gloss over the fact that their daughters kiss girls? Not a flinch.

The worst part is that this story is illogical (because Sarah confessed love to Jordan just a while ago) and probably was introduced into an already overcrowded plot just to...I don't know...send a message that it is okay to cheat if you are a girl and if a guy does not like, that "he does not deserve you"? No, it is not.

This is why the episode got a six. Do not push everyday political agenda into a sci-fi show. Thank you very much.

Quite good!
pauli_gomez29 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This was a pretty good episode, better than the previous ones.

We finally know what is in the mines, and the visuals of the revelation and first confrontation were good. Besides, Lois is behaving more normally (by opposition of his erratic estate in the first episode) and her subplot with her dad and the building for Lucy's arrival was good. Clark also did a good job talking with his children. And I think this was the best Nat so far.

I thought the whole "I am in love, I am going to marry her, so I am going to tell her our family secret" was ridiculous. Jordan has not been given a love potion, he still has a brain. So I did not like that part, but I was glad to see the writers have him realizing his mistake and showing Sarah his love without telling her the secrets. The end of the chapter for Sarah and Jordan was good. Oh, I could not care less for Lana's aspirations, but I think it was moderately well done (except for the cliché "I am a cooking mother").

What I did not like at all was Jon trying to buy kryptonite drugs. First because he never seemed interested in drugs so fair, that felt very out of character. Second because he knows he is half-kryptonian and those drugs could affect him differently than normal humans. So, I have the hope this is all a ruse to find where the kryptonite came for. If not, I really see him out of character. I would have expected him to tell his family as soon as he found about the drugs.

Anyways, I am interested in this, I want to see the future episodes, so I guess the show is doing its job.

Too many side characters subplots
snwlonelysoldierboy31 January 2022
It's ok but too much side characters drama, too little Superman. The show isn't called Lana and her family, Sarah and her school friends, Smallville random people lives, the show is called Superman & Lois, we got 5 minutes of Superman and 40 about random things in Smallville....

The show should be renamed Superman, Lois and etc.
sahil-masrur78626 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
How to write an episode of Superman and Lois - 10 mins of Superman and Lois parenting their teenagers 10 mins of their teenagers doing stuffs from other teen shows 10 mins of Cushing family nonsense 5 mins of John Henry doing something and 2 mins of Visually Stunning fight scene. Voila your episode is ready.

Pls stop making it a family drama. We want to see Superman, not interested in teen dramas or if Lana is accepted as Mayor candidate or not, or her daughters choice.

50% is whining
osmosisx-8779510 January 2023
Seems every CW show is 50% whining and about "feelings" and 50% is the actual show that we want to watch. Add to that the usual CW going down the LGBTQ rabbit hole and this is just another hot mess of a show.

Would be nice to watch a superhero show without the agenda so I could watch with my kids. That's why ratings are never high in CW shows.

Last season was great. Yes, there was lots of whining, but it wasn't pushing much of an agenda (other than the very obvious Lois Lane marrying a black dude in an alternative universe). Very obvious to the point of annoyance. There is zero chemistry with her alternate universe daughter and the entire family. Not even with her real father.

Irritating and damaging moral
18bluebirds8 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I realize I'm coming into this show a bit later than usual, but I just discovered it and am really enjoying. I just watched the Max show Titans, before starting this so my standards were pretty low but I really enjoyed the first season and was excited for this one.

The problem I'm having with this particular episode is the whole cheating thing between Sarah and Jordan. It is such an unnecessary plot point and seems to have just been added to showcase an LGBTQ+ character. I have no issues with LGBTQ+ characters but this aspect of her character seems to be shoehorned in for no reason and she isn't even apologetic for her actions. Why is she being praised for being unfaithful? Because she kissed a girl? It's ridiculous that Jordan was made to be the bad guy because he was cheated on and had a bad reaction to finding out. Sarah didn't even apologize for it, instead she wasn't ashamed?? Like, girl, you SHOULD be ashamed!! ***Spoiler for future episode*** To have her be so nonchalant about this and then be so upset about cheating in her own family later is ridiculous and terrible writing. If you are in a relationship, honor it, and if someone breaks the trust, that person needs to own up to their mistake and the couple needs to work together to mend the relationship, or end it. The fact that she kissed someone and had no consequences other than Jordan being apologetic is damaging and unrealistic. It sends a terrible message that it's fine to cheat if it's with the same gender? What an awful moral to teach.

The show itself is good and interesting, and I've enjoyed that the whole Kent family is the focus of the series, but this season is a bit bogged down in teen drama and filler episodes.

The Thing in the Mines
Prismark1013 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What is in those mines? It's giving Superman temper tantrums.

He keeps losing it, especially with his kids. As if they do not have enough teenage problems of their own.

Superman is even more reliant to those super people created by the US military.

A solid episode, it is going to be John Henry who has to get to the bottom of the mystery.

The reveal of the villain was nice. Not Doomsday but Bizzaro Superman.

General Lane makes a welcome return. You just know his replacement is up to no good.
