Balanced episode between all the arcs
ldamena2 February 2022
This ep & There was a lot. I like how it was equal between all the characters they all have their stories and those stories are all important to the overall arc of the season & character growth. One thing I love about S&L is how they treat all their characters with respect none are less than others. This ep was an example of that. The action was well balanced with the drama which too is always good. One thing: I highly dislike Chrissy after this episode. I hope she falls flat on her face. Seriously a 2 week break???? Ugh.

A tad boring

Warning: Spoilers
To be fair, it is difficult for me to describe this episode because there are things that I do not like that not necessarily means the episode is bad. I actually think the episode does a good job of shuffling all the characters and stories. The problem is that some of those characters and stories do not interest me.

I do not care for the Cushings at all, and it takes a lot of time. I think the Jon story feels forced, he never seemed interested in drugs before, and he really should know better than to mess with krypton-related things. Instead, I do think that the Lois story is interesting and emotionally relevant but has some weak points. One was everybody acting as if Lois had done something terrible with her original story, but I do not think is that bad at al. Two, Chrissy seems too gullible, hopefully she will end helping Lois. Three, her wig gave me goosebumps because it made me think in Chloe Sullivan, and in a story about a cult leader, remembering Allison Mack and her real life story with that (and the leader is called Ally!) was weird. Still, I am interested in the emotional drift in the Lane family. I also liked the Jordan story.

And of course, the Superman story, I think it was good, even when the fight was not the best in the show. Nat is angry, but this time it is really not Clark's fault. And perhaps now the new General will understand that he needs to work WITH Superman and not against him.

Totally felt like the cult indoctrination part of this episode was a tale of woe for those naive enough to fall for a motivational speaker with an agenda.

Superman and the Supermen of America vs. Bizarro

Warning: Spoilers
The fourth episode of the second season titled "The Inverse Method" manages to neatly balance the character arcs and storylines without it feeling jumbled or convoluted. Going into the second season I did not expect there to be multiple storylines and more than one villain. The first episode teased the DC villain Doomsday, but then completely subverted the audience's expectations in episode 3 where Bizarro is introduced. I am intrigued to find out how Bizarro ties into Doomsday, and to see their respective origin stories.

Another recurring storyline this season is Lana's bold decision to run for mayor. In this episode, Lana finds out some rather alarming news about her opponent. Apparently, he is trying to dig up dirt on the Cushing family. When confronted about it by a persistent Kyle, he denies it. Later it is revealed that Kyle was involved in an affair during his alcoholism days. I wonder how things will escalate from here on out.

I love how the show continually put both Clark and Lois at the centre of it all and not underuse any of them. Both characters have equal amount of screen time and individual storylines that are interconnected.

This episode saw Lois trying to find her younger sister Lucy. Unfortunately, she joined a cult that seems to prey on weak minded people. I know that Crisis rewrote the Lucy Lane character, but I found her quite grim and a little depressing. I'd probably need more context to understand what exactly happened to her. On Supergirl, Lucy had a much cheerier personality.

After the revelation that Jonathan's girlfriend is selling X-kryptonite to his frenemy/nemesis to support her family, Jonathan decides to inhale some of it as well. I have a feeling this will develop to an addiction which will probably cause Jonathan's powers to slowly emerge.

Jordan, on the other hand, had an anxiety attack when he tried to stop shoplifters. General Lane had to scrub the footage to keep Jordan's identity intact. I reckon that Jordan will transfer to the Department of Defence school for the super powered. Tag was sent there after losing control and kidnapping Sarah last season. Jordan is slowly going to transition into Superboy now that General Lane agreed to help train him. I do hope that Jordan reveals his secret to Sarah sooner rather than later. Smallville's version of Clark Kent told Lana his secret in his early twenties. While on Superman and Lois, Clark never told Lana his secret. I do hope, however, that she'll find out eventually.

The entire fight sequence between Superman and Bizarro was extremely visually appealing to look at. The cinematography on Superman and Lois is truly stunning. Tyler Hoechlin portrays Clark Kent aka Superman with so much depth and care. It really shows how much he enjoys playing this eponymous character. The way he can alter his demeanour, mannerisms and gestures when playing Bizarro is none other than impressive and showcases his amazing acting range.

I wonder whether Lois can convince Lucy that her devotion to Ali and the cult is toxic. Lucy was brain washed or got force fed pills that made her more compliant. I enjoyed seeing Elizabeth 'Bitsie' Tulloch and Jenna Dewan on-screen together. To quote Jenna Dewan: There's definitely a possibility that Elizabeth Tulloch and Jenna Dewan were 'separated at birth.' I totally bought their whole sibling dynamic.

Final verdict: 9.4/10.

The Inverse Method balances the character arcs out perfectly, though flawed in some areas
Holt3443 February 2022
Melissa Hickey directed the forth episode of Superman and Lois. This episode has Lois and Chrissy go on a mission to find Lois' sister Lucy; Jonathan and Jordan become more and more unsettled as Clark's painful visions continue. I like how they balance out the screen time and character arcs in this season, everyone in the Kent family has something important to do. I can only praise the script and direction, Melissa Hickey did a really good job, unexpectedly. There's also some great cinematography in the episode, keeping the same quality from the previous season if not better except for the visual effects and CGI. But back to the direction, Melissa Hickey nailed it with this episode, a newcomer to the tv show and quickly shows how she cares for the characters and knows how to make epic sequences, she delivered in both the action and dramatic scenes, the action scenes were done so well.

The Inverse Method continues the previous episodes plot and character arcs, whilst bringing us the reveal of the big bad and honestly more of the good stuff. Jai Jamison & Andrew N. Wong wrote the script for this episode and I couldn't see any real flaws with the writing in this episode, but it wasn't as great as the previous episode but overall the quality we are used in seeing and the same is said regarding the other departments, the quality and love for the characters and show remains there. Whilst the previous episodes were more character driven and building up the villain, the previous episode ended with the reveal of Bizarro which took me by surprise. This episode builds on that and it's looking bright for the season, so far, a great villain. But the show is of course about Lois Lane and her arc is on the same level if not just a tiny bit better, Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tull are terrific in this episode, there's also great acting from the rest of the cast. Jenna Dewan returns to the role of Lucy Lane and it's nice to see her reprise it after her part in Supergirl, but this is a different version and rightfully so. This version is just more realistic than the other.

I appreciate the work the writers, producers and well everyone who's working on this show, Superman and Lois is a show so very human. Comparing this to another show in the Arrowverse is something I'm unable to do now days, the quality is higher in every way. Especially the writing, pacing and acting. These characters act like human beings and that's why so many tune into this spectacular show. The conversations matter and each scene is there for a purpose. Lois' character arc this season deserves a lot of praise, I can't wait to see what happens next, it's the same with every single character arc, the writers continue to show their talent. The episode is very good but there's a big BUT coming, the big fight sequence was shot extremely well but the set they used were very bad and the CGI didn't meet my expectations for the show. That big fight was also unnecessary in some capacity, it would have been too much focus on Lois if the fight wasn't in. But what I mean is how there could have been something else, something smarter, something more interesting for the Man of Steel as he's more than that, he's Clark Kent and he haven't really been Clark as much in this season and we all know Tyler Hoechlin is an excellent Clark Kent. Overall, a great episode though.

This episode was gonna be so awesome

Warning: Spoilers
This episode could have been a 8 or 9 but the whole lois lane thing with her sister is gettin stupid.

Like the part about her partner at the newspaper place where she got mad at her cuz she left out the part about lucy lane seein herself while dying of overdose lol?

Like that makes absolutely no sense why she got so upset about it that shes gonna go meet with That Evil Cult Leader Ally.

I kept thinkin over n over tryin to think of what the writer of this story was tryin to convey but nope it makes no sense. Its like if Lucy lane was not overdosing then yes u can convey Lois was lying n hiding bits to fit her narrative but her sister was overdosing so like who would even believe she saw things like see herself lol?

Stupid story honestly n they tried to hard to make a big deal out of it but failed miserably cuz for lois lanes reporter partner to get mad at her she would have to disregard the logic of ppl overdosing sees things all the time Or better yet she would have to disregard how serious the overdosing thing was to even get mad about info thats left out about someone hallucinating something.

I know it's called superman and Lois but c'mon. People watch the show for superman and taking on villains. This was a boring episode. Hopefully they step it up a bit.

I dont care about Lois's sister and the cult, perhaps we should actually expand on the reverse superman a bit more, like actually hearing him speak more, understand him more.

So much for a show called Superman...
snwlonelysoldierboy2 February 2022
Edit: to the other user: i'm watching a show called SUPERMAN of course i'm going to be annoyed by the lack of him.

Second, you just gave me the great idea to come here every week to review an episode, thank you.

In this episode we got 05:36 of Superman, timed. Everything else is drama about Lana, and the people of Smallville.

They should change the tittle to The Cushings & the random folks of Smallville....

Too MUCH OTHER PEOPLE
tgctigerlily19 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I have a feeling they're trying to connect the stupid Lucy Lane story and Alli with these other dimensions.

Lucy said something about how the experiences she had caused her to "see her 'other self'"...🙄 so I have a suspicion these other "selves" are maybe their doppelganger/bizarro "twins" from other dimensions or whatever.

And the Lana/Sarah Cushing story is fine...but we've got more politics than sci-fi stuff...that's annoying.

In the beginning Lana and them were working with the Lanes on the whole Morgan Edge storyline arc. But now they've diverged and there's not much connection between the two families and too much POLITICS. 🤦‍♀️🙄

I get that teenagers are weird, conflicted, dramatic, etc-I have 3 👍🏻.

But to take Natalie to this level of mood swings-One scene she's taking on the steel suit like a Sheldon Cooper who thinks engineering is awesome,...the next scene she's whining about Superman shoulda protected her dad like he was a baby...like she NEVER created the suit for her dad to use in the first place!🤦‍♀️🙄
