Auteur/star Kimberly Kane misspeaks during the BTS segment of "Beautiful Stranger", implying that the shooting title was actually plural "Beautiful Strangers", and this seemingly minor difference is an indicator of what went wrong. One of her experimental features shot for Vivid, the movie has many interesting sidelights and tangents but ends up being artificially jerry-rigged to just one title character -Vivid contract star Savanna Samson.
Kane, heavily relying on voice-over, plays a sort of groupie, entranced by Savanna who she sees regularly as a streetwalker but is afraid to approach, sort of too shy. Instead of a linear, perhaps predicable tale of unrequited lesbian love, we are instead treated to an episodic, poorly put together display of outre BDSM oriented sex, well-executed by a hyper cast clearly egged on by the director to "stretch" themselves and be uninhibited.
Most striking is Angelica Raven, sexy beyond the call of duty in a sexual workout with Mr. Pete. Other hot match-ups have Bobbi Starr and Kristina Rose in a lesbian tryst featuring a foot-job that reminded me of those old Long Jeanne Silver films in terms of extremity. Aiden Starr is as kinky as ever but in a different mode in a BBG scene with Alec Knght and French import Denis Marti.
SPOILER:
Kane hooks up with Savanna for the finale but it's merely fantasizing, with just a shred of hope for getting it on for real in some sequel
None of the sex scenes can be faulted in terms of explicitness, energy and generated heat. Problem is it all adds up to just an exercise, so reminiscent of that never-ending stream of Evil Angel product wherein Dana Vespoli orchestrates performers doing strange things to each other, or more recently John Stagliano's endless (8 hours long) and totally indulgent tales of lesbians in tortured relationships: "Hard in Love".
