Rajkummar Rao is the definitive highlight of the show!

The duo of Raj & DK is celebrated for their expertise in crafting interesting characters from scratch, and they are not only well versed in their interplays and discourses but also understand how to make those personalities more relatable to the audience and their latest collaboration with Netflix, "Guns & Gulaabs" is no exception!

We have got a bunch of fascinating individuals with different quirks and traits, and all of them have been given space and time to evolve, albeit to varying extents.

Actors like Rajkummar Rao and Adarsh Gourav had captured most of the spotlight, whereas in Dulquer Salmaan and Gulshan Devaiah's case, things have not gone all smooth and sailing, and they got way less screen time than they merited, given the quality and capability they possess as actors.

And the main reason behind this unjustness was that the creators were too busy playing around with half a dozen sub-plots all moving parallel to each other, which wore them down and, subsequently, their whole execution!

Underplots are critical in storytelling, but having too many of them could jeopardise the entire equation; you have to figure out and respect the limitations.

That being said, I did appreciate the show overall, and that's mainly because of the humour that came organically; rather than coming off superficial, and for that, I would like to applaud the writing as well as Rajkummar Rao because he was sensational with his comic timing; he was without a doubt the highlight of the show.

New player in game of web series

This web series come out of the same rat race of web series with its film making ,the direction is done very well that they know what they want u to show ,the actors are top of line with saurabh,Rajkumar,dulquar, gulshan e.t.c and a outstanding performance by child actor who plays character of gangaram ,,the climax is also different from all as it doesn't leave a clue for its next season as it give every character a interesting ending,,,,,,I am not to sure about negative as they are different but I can also not as satisfied to give it a 10,,,,it doesn't have any intimation scenes but contain strong language and blood ,,,

The Duo Delivers Again!

This show, when written on paper, must've been a joyride for all people involved. Every aspect of this piece was taken care of and I can say I was satisfied. Rajkumar and everyone were amazing but i truly have to give it up for DQ who just delivers constantly. Only downside is some lag scenes and some illogical scripting but it is a comedy show so it does make sense. The comedy was well delivered and the action was above par. I liked the depth they gave to some of the characters and how every side story in the show was tied up to the best of the directors ability but I felt interested in every aspect of the show and for a Netflix piece to do that to you, the director had to have grounded you in every minute and I can say I was hooked. All in all, would recommend and loved every bit of it.

Fresh Story, good twists and great comic timings

The Directors Creates Nostalgia, Which Is The USP Of This Webseries.

'Guns & Gulaabs' is a Dark Comedy, Crime, Thriller Series. It's created by Raj & DK. In the whole series, it reminds some old memories like using telephone, old style haircut, dress, tape recorder, music and etc things. The Directors creates Nostalgia, which is the USP of this series.

Suman Kumar, Raj & DK written by this story. The story structure is not totally new but the Directors presented in a unique way. So nice to see the whole series. Also used an old fashioned background score and some famous old songs which is nice to hear.

Talking about performances, Rajkumar Rao (Paana Tipu), Dulquer Salman (Arjun Verma), Satish Koushik (Ganchi) Gulsan Devaiah (Atmaram), Adarsh Gaurav (Chotu, Jugnu), TJ Bhanu (Chandralekha), Manuj Sharma (Bunty) are the lead actors in this series. Each and every lead actor did the work in a fantastic way. Everyone deserves a round of applause. Dulquer Salman debute his webseries career by this series. A special mention to Satish Koushik who won our hearts by his last performance. Other Supporting Actors portray their characters very well. The Child Actors, Tanishq Chaudhary, Krish Neel, Suhani Sethi and Araham Sawant are shined in this series.

Falters in-between but still a decent Raj & DK show

As an ardent admirer of Raj & D. K's work, including the often overlooked 'A Gentleman,' I couldn't contain my anticipation upon learning about their latest endeavor, 'Guns & Gulaabs.' Boasting an ensemble cast featuring talents like Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan (DQ), Gulshan Devaiah, and Adarsh Gourav, the stage was set for an intriguing and gripping narrative. However, as I reflect upon the seven-episode series, my thoughts inevitably lean toward what might have been.

It's important to clarify that 'Guns & Gulaabs' is far from being a disappointment; it commences on a strong note, and the initial episodes manage to capture the viewer's attention. The climactic episode, replete with twists and adrenaline-pumping thrills, further showcases the show's potential. Regrettably, these engaging moments are sporadically interspersed, leaving much to be desired during the in-between segments.

While the humor occasionally hits its mark, there are instances when the jokes falter, contributing to an overall sense of inconsistency. The pacing of the series, in particular, felt lackluster and, at times, ponderous. It's within these stretches that the show loses some of its allure, struggling to maintain the viewer's engagement.

Fantastic

I loved this series. It is fantastic. All the characters played their roles very well. This is not like another movies and series, all characters got good roles and none is the main hero, movie script is good, story beautifully wrapped up in the end, nothing left in between. I don't like crime, gangsters drama, but this was different. It has love story, family story and crime. Overall all good. There is some vulgar language but its ok now everyone used too after watching sacred games, Naidu and many more. Everyone should watch it for fun, time-pass and i promise you that you will not be bore. Thanks.

Rajkumar & Adarsh Gourav elevate the show

Without the star cast I doubt I would've persevered beyond 2-3 eps. Rajkumar Rao & Adarsh Gourav are absolutely fantastic in their roles. There is a lot of good stuff and interesting threads. The world building is solid. However,at an emotional level you rarely feel invested in the characters. Other than Jugnu,Tipu & the three kids the show lacks soul that it tries to compensate for with style. Atmaram is another run-of-the-mill 'weirdo' character whose motives and origins remain a mystery but his presence is supposed to drive terror in us. The performances are mostly very,very good(special mention for the kid who plays Gangu) but there is little by way of plot to be stretched to 7,45 min. Eps. A faster narrative would've been a delight.

A decent watch nonetheless.

Raj and dk delivers it again

Guns and gulab isn't your regular series. It has 4 story which run parallel with each other which intertwine in between as story progresses. The main core success of this series for being so good is the story and screenplay. The screenplay is tight, story is engaging and one won't feel bored for a second. The direction and cinematography is as always top notch, and is "raj and dk standard". I couldn't praise these guys more for producing and making such a fine art, with such conviction . The actors are amazing, every actor did expecially wonderful job of portraying such an. Iconic characters. Especially gulshan devaiah and the kid who did the gangram character, these two actors did standout performance.

Raj and dk also add a old retro vibe in the series (I mean it's pretty obvious, because the story take place in late 90s) which work exceptionally well, all together I'm lost of words, this series I definitely in "top 7 best series I've ever watched" list. If you still haven't watched the series I would recommend watch it as 1 episode a day, as this is a series which came once in a year, so enjoy watching it, didn't rush watch it slowly take all the enjoyment.

Highly recommended.

Old classic Drama series

Firstly best old cinematography of gunes and gulabes.

All casting are amazing work. And excellent work again rajkumaar rao role -(tippu panna) much funny characters.

Funny and full of drama comedy show.

Last show by Satiesh khosik sir << respect.

Raj & DK work their magic once again with an interesting plot around very capable actors. Raj Kumar Rao is in his comfort zone as Tipu, the underdog hero that he has played with perfection in previous iterations. But the real standout among the cast is Adarsh Gaurav who plays a character similar to Divyenndu as Munna Tripathi in Mirzapur (albeit toned down a notch).

Raj and DK deliver again, this time with a dark-comedy gangster drama. While the overall story isn't anything new, the way it's been written and told was very enjoyable.

Well shot, good acting, good sound design and there's enough gaali-galoch if you enjoy that. Those of you who like nostalgia, from old songs on audio cassettes to F. L. A. M. E. S., there's enough of that as well. It was good to see Satish Kaushik on the screen. The students in the show were quirky. Casting DQ and casually weaving in some Telugu in there felt refreshing, leave it to Raj and DK to begin getting inclusion right.

The story is slow and takes its own sweet time (but has the said dark comedy dispersed throughout) until it hits the fan in the 7-8 combo episode finale. That's when the stories and different plotlines come together and you're like "Ooooh, that's what's going on!" There's ONE lose end that I think they didn't tie, but other than that, this was enjoyable. I wonder if a 3-hr movie version would have been nice, but I don't know what you'd cut. It's watchable on the sides as well, in case you don't have the time.

If you're looking for something with slow pace writing than this is the show.

Acting wise the cast did good and music definitely reminds you of 90s. Retro style makes this show funny and Rajkumar Rao excels in this slow paced drama. However crime in this show is not par with the previous shows of Raj and DK but they still managed to create a good drama out of it.

Dulquer Salman got wasted in this show as his role could've been better. The ending is bit messy so I reduced a star coz of it.

Technical mistakes are there all over the show so if you're keen watcher you can expect disappointment with it otherwise it's a good timepass with not so much to hook.

Started great, but a big disappointment by end.

Rajkummar Rao always brings freshness to anything he portrays. This series started so very well with set up of the characters and the ambience, but slowly starts to lose the plot mid series, and by the end of the last episode it ended up being a joke. I have to admit that while watching the series, there was never a dull moment in it. It was just till you get to the last episode you feel that you have wasted your time and you could have better invested your time in something else.

Pros: Good Cast, Characters did justice to their roles & there is never a dull moment Cons: The series loses its plot during the second half, which is a major drawback.

I enjoyed this show. Hilarious dialogues n a Jason esque villain in terms of immortality n even more hilarious mullet hair.

The 90s set up transports us to that era. Specially the love letter with perfume n Bryan Adam's song.

The dialogues r crude n hilarious.

"I cud crush u under the weight of my balls".

Another best part is the villain with the mullet hair who seems to be another Jason from Friday the 13th who never dies.

Rajkumar Rao as Tipu is top notch. The guy deserves big budget movies. He is a terrific actor.

His movie Shahid is in my top ten list.

The final showdown between Aatmaram n Tipu is hilarious. The show has a terrific twist n has lots of well developed characters.

The amulet seller guy shud have been given more footage.

The only thing missing was the inclusion of over the top violence which is required in such dark comedies.

A new study states that people who appreciate dark humor may have higher IQs, show lower aggression, and resist negative feelings more effectively than people who dont.

I lived every moment of this series

One sentence to describe this series that it feels like you are watching something different and living those moments. That 90's era vibes and cast giving their best and living on their rules is something else. And screenplay that was marvelous. Hats off to Raj and DK for this show. It was really a treat to the eyes. Never felt boredom through a long watch. Last 30 minutes of this show was really something else. One of the best ending that this series deserved. However, sad that no more season of this epic show will happen. It ended that way. Last but not least, the casts were outstanding. Thanks Netflix for this one!

Unpolished Brilliance: A Review of 'Guns and Gulabs

"Guns and Gulabs" begins its journey with the picturesque beauty of a "gulaab" field, yet swiftly transitions to a world dominated by "guns." While this initial approach is simple, it feels somewhat lacking for the renowned duo behind the series. As a casual viewer, the intended direction of the creators was readily comprehensible, eliminating the need to read between the lines.

The character introductions play a crucial role at the outset, each portraying a sense of menace and determination in their own unique way. However, their subsequent actions fail to consistently live up to this initial impression, barring a few notable exceptions. While this portrayal might reflect the authenticity of ordinary gangsters, it falls short of the engagement required to captivate audiences in a web series. The characters' motivations often lack the necessary depth and conviction, leaving a void in their intent.

We are introduced to Tipu, an unassuming small-time mechanic, masterfully portrayed by RKR, whose life takes an unexpected turn after the tragic death of his father. Fueled by rage, he becomes entangled in a world he never sought. His complex emotions oscillate between love, revenge, and other conflicting desires, making him a instantly likable yet enigmatic character. RKR shines in this role, though amidst the intricate narrative, Tipu's true allegiance and motivations remain unclear, hindering a deep emotional connection. At best, we find ourselves chuckling at his witty remarks.

The portrayal of Mr. Senior Ganchi, portrayed by the late Satish Kaushik ji, the local opium trade lord, is intriguing. However, the extent of his capabilities and the consequences of defying his wishes remain unexplored. The anticipation for a more charismatic and forceful portrayal of a gang lord remains largely unfulfilled.

His son, Chotu, also known as Jugnu or Jr. Ganchi (Adarsh Gaurav), strives to earn his father's approval and carve his own path. Unfortunately, despite encountering unexpected hurdles, the emotional depth expected from such moments is absent. Whether he holds sway over his empire or succumbs to a sense of helplessness lacks the impact required to evoke genuine emotion.

The central theme of the "deal" is recurrent, yet the narrative oscillates unpredictably between sub-plots and the main plot. Regrettably, viewers are not given enough time to invest in these sub-plots, consequently failing to elicit empathy for the overarching deal.

"Aatmaram," portrayed by the charismatic Gulshan Devaiah, is a contract killer characterized by his ruthless spree. Yet, his actions often appear unconvincing due to the absence of genuine obstacles. While his witty one-liners and stylish demeanor are appealing, his character remains underdeveloped.

The inclusion of teenage romance drama intermittently disrupts the narrative's momentum and gravitas. The reliance on stretched situations and sub-plots only perpetuates the sensation of circular storytelling with minimal advancement.

Dulquer Salmaan's portrayal of DCP Arjun, the newly appointed officer, shines as he navigates the intricate world of the town. His unwavering commitment to his family sets him apart, providing a clear and purposeful quest amidst the convoluted web of characters.

The series frequently employs pop culture references that mirror the universal theme of relationships and escape. However, their timing and relevance, particularly "bhag sunil bhag," can be questioned.

While humor and a stellar cast are abundant, the excessive use of coarse language eventually diminishes its impact. The scarcity of effective cliffhangers further undermines the anticipation for each successive episode, contributing to a sense of fatigue as the series progresses.

Spanning six episodes and an extended mini-movie finale, the series gradually loses its allure by the sixth episode, leaving the viewer eager to conclude the journey. While the series does possess moments of amusement and boasts remarkable casting, its reliance on flashback sequences in the finale to justify characters' actions feels like a convenient storytelling ploy.

Ultimately, the storytelling itself warrants critique; a tighter narrative and the trimming of an episode could have elevated the series and maintained its appeal.

Don't know What to Caption This ITS more than Just A Show

Don't where to start and where to stop. Let's start from the performances of the actors who are great and brilliant in their own ways. Rajkumar Rao this man is born to entertain us. His timing, dialogue delivery and body language all works together to be a character he makes us believe that he is not playing he lives it. Dulquer Salman must change his name to dilkare Salman he is such a great actor that u want him to be on screen as much as possible. Gulshan Drvaiaih one of my favourite actors, he did full justice in whatever was given to him. Last but not the least Raj And DK guys they are the blessings for Hindi Cinema. They know what we like and what we don't. Keep up guys. Finally the show is pure ENTERTAINMENT ENTERTAINMENT ENTERTAINMENT. ENJOY GUYS.

Weak script but a fun ride

Okay so this is my first review, huge fan of DQ that's why this review at first place, now ill just try to be honest with my own perspective, now that im a good writer or anything, points are not arranged in a manner sorry for that, that might come with experience when i review more.

-so the story revolves around a huge opium deal, which is set in gulaabganj, and how that deal affects individuals as two major gangs rivals each other -set in the theme of 90s, a bit of nostalgic ride for people born before 2000s because of the elements like Flared pants, phone booths, handwritten letters, mixed cassette tapes, Campa Colas, Ambassador cars, katta that -being set in 90s here doesn't means all those songs, which is quite a lag -what do you expect if genre like action, violence, love, comedy, all blood and deaths are mixed together, made in 2023? Not something to watch with family? Well except for cuss words, there's no intimate scenes -i love series or movies that goes with pace, this was a little slow but the acting didnt let me feel it much -every character has given a good time of screenplay and are even managed quite well and at the end when every dots are connected, a weak script but a fun ride.

It's not Bollywood, It's more Hollywood.

I'm not a fan of Indian films or shows. They tend to be over the top bollywood style or cringey and remedial.

But this is like 'White Tiger', a more realistic feel to it.

It's corny, colourful, simple, a bit much at times and cheesy in parts. But it's also gripping, funny, detailed, well written and acted. The characters are all likeable or villainous.

The seven episodes flow easily and there's plenty of (sometimes obvious) twists. Overall it was very enjoyable. Its more of a lads style production, but fans of worldly art will like it.

Eventough it's in English, the accents can be a bit hard to understand at times.

An execution of a great potential

The best aspect about the series is, hands down the acting and cinematography. It is edited well and the performance kept the momentum up to reach the climactic end.

The few aspects that, in my opinion, was lacking was the motivation of the plot. The storyline could be a little more defined structurally. Also Gulshan Devaiah is a profound actor and, his character could be delved into more. I felt that was underused. I felt there was a supernatural aspect to his character arc in the end, which did not sit well with me.

The character arc of Chandralekha (T. J. Bhanu) was not defined well. I was unable to understand her motivation behind her actions or stances regarding a certain issues. Also the beginning plotline of the series was not answered in the forthcoming episodes as much as the built up was created. Especially considering the story of Tipu's (Raj Kumar Rao) father.

Also coming to the concluding episode, it had a lot of timeline jumps to conclude the story and felt a little unnecessary. And also the plot came to a conclusion very conveniently which made the fiction a little too fictitious.

A special mention to Adarsh Gourav as Chhota Ganchi. His performance can take the crown in this show.

Overall a good watch if you enjoy the Gang-Mafia drama genre.

Not sure what the reviewers are complaining about. The series is well done. Every characters is well defined, with arcs and the dichotomy they grapple with is excellently portrayed. Yes, some of the plot points didn't seem particularly interesting and perhaps could have been edited but I think they left me curious.

Halfway thru the series, I felt invested. Didn't see any dull moments. All in all great fun ride with cool performances. Hates off to Satish-ji. He will be missed dearly. Great performance by a true champion and veteran of India cinema. I'll always cherish my random encounter with him at India Habitat Centre's all American Diner in New Delhi.

Good but not excellent

Let's begin with this, it's good for a one-time watch, but it's definitely not a series you'll want to watch again, ever.

Rajkummar Rao needs to understand that these kinds of roles come naturally to him, and bringing comedy to any situation is his forte. Once again, he has proven himself in this role.

As for Dulquer Salmaan, he comes across as too ordinary. There's not much more to say about that.

The late Satish Kaushik, on the other hand, is pure class. It's unfortunate that his role was so limited in this series.

The series is set in the 90s, based on a drug war in a small area, and it depicts a similar story of a gang war fighting for full control over the territory.

The execution was well done, although the series does tend to stretch a bit. The references to old English and Indian classics in the episodes were a nice touch.

Overall, it's worth a watch, but just for a one-time viewing.

Boring and waste of time

This is an Extremely boring show/series. I watched three episodes only in the hopes of somewhat enjoying Rajkumar Rao's acting and comedy - I was wrong, this continues to be painstakingly boring!! I don't think I can continue watching anymore.

You will be reminded of the Kill Bill volumes throughout the show with the director hoping you would get Q Tarantino feels.

However, the story is abysmal, characters are not engaging at all, acting is just ok and the overall execution and theme is not funny, thrilling or entertaining. Its a complete waste of time. Please do not watch. Do yourself a favor and skip this one!

I was absolutely captivated by the show, and the final episode was an absolute masterpiece! I was thoroughly engrossed and found it to be one of the most exceptional shows in Netflix's lineup. Without a doubt, the time invested was truly well-spent. 🌟👏

Not even one singe character sidelined. Every single character with its own SELF, well defined, well written, well cast and one of a kind acting. I have seen thousands of movies and series but no one have ever displayed the clarity in character like this one.

Tipu - Overwhelmed prodigy wanting to make his own path still ends up in choosing similar path, good at heart, still kills "not a psychopath" Arjun - A good man who questions his morality to save loved ones ends up saving both.

Atmaram- The mystery man, the killer, the DEVIL (literally) . The loaded gun. The most mysterious character after Bangali baba in "NO SMOKING".

Chote - The dark side of meeting the expectations. Unlike Tipu, chose to live upto expectations of his father ending up to be way different.

The backbencher gang and Jo - Typical school love story and typical back bencher trio, so well directed. Each kid having their own story that showed in each frame they appeared on screen.

Mishra - Unlike Atmaram, the gun for sale, but with its own greed and bad decisions. Unlike Arjun, a policeman who sold his morality but got the brass in the end.

I cant explain how beautifully Lekha ma'am, Bunty's character is written, the comic timings were perfect and the witty dialogues.
