Sadly, like most episodes these days, it ends up frustrating you even though it has some good moments in it.There's an unfortunate dissonance between the way the writers seem to want you to perceive the characters and the way they actually are. Here, it's Gina and Marilyn who behave in a thoroughly unlikable fashion and make you wonder why on earth they're being portrayed as protagonists.
April does, to her credit, confess to what's happened and seems genuinely worried about Xavier, although there's a bit too much self-pity mixed in with it.Bianca's decision to get her father to belittle her as punishment feels a bit cruel and it's hard to shake the feeling there won't actually be any proper legal punishment at the end of this, given the rather pat "It's up to the school" way it's dealt with. Having spent the last episode declaring everything is Xavier's fault, Gina now seems to take the same approach with April and her cold rejection of her, which probably isn't what Xavier would want, is understandable but hard to sympathise with.
Meanwhile, after Alf's surprisingly early exit, Marilyn continues with Operation Steal Nicole's Baby, presenting her with a contract that basically amounts to a list of demands and treating her like a surrogate, even going as far as trying to get Leah onside to talk Nicole round. It's actually good to see Morag in Nicole's corner, whether she wants her there or not:There's been too many people pussyfooting around this one.
