It took nearly 20 years to make "The Conjuring," a "based on a true story" film about the supposed hauntings of the Perron family in Harrisville, Rhode Island. For over 14 years, producer Tony DeRosa-Grund went from studio to studio trying to make the film happen, but it wasn't until writers Chad and Carey W. Hayes updated the script and shifted the perspective from the Perron family to paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren that there was movement on the picture. The duo interviewed Lorraine Warren to ensure authenticity, and the new script sparked a massive bidding war. The Hayes brothers had cracked the code — the secret of what would become a massive franchise lay with the Warrens.
Before the era of televised paranormal investigators like Zak Bagans of "Ghost Adventures" or "Kindred Spirits" stars Amy Bruni and Adam Berry, there were Ed and Lorraine Warren. Ed was a professed demonologist, while...

Comcast and NBCUniversal are pushing Peacock out of the nest starting Wednesday, April 15, promising to unfurl a rich plume of 15,000-plus hours of streaming content, first for the cable giant’s own TV and internet customers.
Peacock is then slated to be available across the U.S. on July 15 — while NBCU is mulling the possibility of moving that up sooner — in various three tiers across mobile, web and connected-tv devices: paid with ads ($4.99 monthly); paid with no ads ($9.99 monthly); and completely free with ads with a truncated content lineup. With the national launch, Comcast (and Cox) subscribers also will have the option to get an ad-free version of the service for an additional $5 per month.
So what’s on the menu? Peacock will include live and on-demand content across current and past TV shows, movies, news, and late night programming, with some live sports once they resume post-pandemic. Most of...

If the effects of Ryan Murphy’s influence can be found anywhere on TV, it’s in the solidifying popularity of the anthology series. He’s got more and more coming out himself (American Horror Story, American Crime Story, Feud, Scream Queens, sort of), and most networks are joining in on the party with shows like American Crime, Fargo, and True Detective. Given that the overly mysterious new season of Ahs is essentially honoring those goofy Paranormal Witness-type shows that Syfy has popularized, it makes sense for the network to finally throw its own hat into the anthology ring, too.
It’s doing so with Channel Zero, a series adapting the popular (and deeply unsettling, I’ll admit) short form internet horror stories known as “Creepypastas” into a serialized format, with each season beginning a new pasta. The first season is inspired...

After months of skillfully marketed suspense, the Season 6 premiere of “American Horror Story” had a lot to live up to: Not only did they need to reveal a theme worth the 24 teasers released to perplex and entice fans, but it had to justify the momentous buildup for the latest entry in a franchise with very few worthwhile entries.
For the most part, “My Roanoke Nightmare” lived up to the hype. While horror fans may be left unenthused by the lack of juicy shocks or gruesome violence, Season 6’s first entry marked a more measured approach than last year’s cheap mishmash of motifs from better movies, and it set up a mystery worth further investigation.

You’ve probably read our exclusive Unhallowed Ground review by now, but if you haven’t here’s the skinny: Unhallowed Ground is a brand new British horror film written by Paul Rachid, who also appears in the film, directed by Russell England (Holby City, Paranormal Witness) and starring Morgane Polanski, Poppy Drayton, Rachel Petladwala, Thomas Law, Marcus Griffiths, Will Thorp and Ameet Chana.
Six late teen/early twenties from North London single-sex private schools spend a night patrolling the eerie grounds of the historic Dhoultham School as part of an initiative with the British Army to provide rich kids with basic military training. As each hour passes and the teenagers complete their mundane tasks, they witness a series of increasingly disturbing occurrences: slamming doors, self-governing lights and ghostly apparitions.
As they spend more and more time together, personal conflicts are magnified and the School’s history erupts onto the surface of proceedings.

Most Haunted is being revived for a new series on Really.
The channel will launch a new 10-episode series of the ghost-hunting show in August, with host Yvette Fielding confirmed to return.
The series originally aired on Living TV (now Sky Living), before ending in 2010. The show has filmed over 180 episodes and 500 hours of footage.
The new series will feature locations across the UK, such as The Royal Court Theatre in Lancashire and Sheffield's National Emergency Services Museum.
Fielding commented: "This is without doubt our best series yet. We are so pleased Most Haunted has found its exclusive new home on Really - the home of paranormal programming."
Producer and director Karl Beattie added: "Television was too quiet without Most Haunted so we answered fans' calls and brought it back. And where better for it to be than Really?
"Really has fully immersed itself in this genre and does it better than any other channel,...

The firm behind shows including Gold Rush, Unexplained Files, and Dangerous Persuasions will have the freedom to expand into scripted programming and produce “high-quality independent films” following the deal, the companies say. They didn’t disclose how much Discovery paid for Raw, but say that it will “continue to operate independently from its London headquarters” with all of its current staff. “We are looking forward to Raw infusing our ever-expanding creative pipeline with compelling stories that will be seen on Discovery’s networks around the world,” Discovery Studios and Production Group President Lee Bartlett says. He adds that the deal is being unveiled on the same day that Discovery rebranded the Military Channel – now called Ahc: American Heroes Channel. The two events illustrate “Discovery’s ongoing strategy of increasing investment in new brands, new content creators, new programming genres, and new opportunities across more platforms in more regions of the world,...

Bill McGoldrick continues with executive changes at Syfy, which he took over over as head of programming in November. Tim Krubsack is stepping down as VP alternative programming at the NBCUniversal-owned network. His exit comes on the heels of Syfy Films Svp Production Gregory Noveck and Director of Development leaving in November. “After much consideration, I have decided to step down as Syfy’s head of unscripted development to pursue other opportunities,” Krubsack said in a statement. “I am very proud of what my team and I have accomplished here and now is the time for me to explore all the options that exist in the ever-growing unscripted arena.” “We would like to thank Tim for his many contributions to Syfy’s unscripted successes including top-rated Face Off, the innovative social experiment Opposite Worlds, the buzz-generating Heroes of Cosplay, and stalwarts such as Ghost Hunters and Paranormal Witness,” McGoldrick said in a statement.

Nobody Can Cool is the rather impressive directorial debut from up-and-coming filmmaking duo Dpyx, Marcy Boyle and Rachel Holzman, who crafted a blisteringly taut and thoughtful indie crime thriller with a palpable sense of tension from start to finish. Inspired by true events that shocked the world and to this day still frighten and fascinate, The House at the End of the Drive was shot on location on Cielo Drive… just a knife’s throw away from the site of the Manson/Tate murders.
Produced by the homeowner David Oman, the movie blends fact with fiction as supernatural forces from the past transport he and his dinner guests through time -- back to the night of the original murders.
The movie recently enjoyed a big red carpet gala premiere in Hollywood at Shockfest (where it took home “Best Writer” honors in the closing Awards). We were lucky enough to catch up with Oman for this exclusive interview.
Dread Central: I’ve been hearing about your haunted house for years, but I never did have the, er, pleasure of visiting. I recall, a few years back, you used to host film screenings and tours.

James Wan blazed onto the scene with the audacious indie "Saw," then continued to carve out an especially unsettling niche in the horror genre with the low-budget box-office hit "Insidious" and this summer's runaway hit, "The Conjuring." Now, "Insidious: Chapter 2," which opens this Friday (the 13th) takes us deeper into "The Further," and the horrifying cliffhanger teased in the original film is now a "Shining"-esque situation where daddy isn't quite himself.
We sat down with Wan back in July, as his last interview of the day. He was a little weary of talking about ghosts and horror, and we soon learned why: he intends this to be his last film in the genre. He did, however, perk up when talking about a reality TV horror show that genuinely terrified him and his plans for the genre he plans to put his stamp on next.

We’ve seen these paranormal encounter reenactment shows come and go over the years, but truly, Paranormal Witness is easily my favorite. And the one that I won’t watch at home alone at night. Arguably the best researched, and the best produced, I am convinced with every episode I see that their tagline is true: Scary Because It’s True. Check out the TV spot and clip from tonight’s new episode:

With its graphic reenactments, "Paranormal Witness" is easily the spookiest of the supernatural reality series on the air. The Syfy hit returned for its second season with a look into the story of "The Long Island Terror."
Jeanette Meyran is a New York firefighter widow who moved to a new home to get away from the hounding press after her husband died in the line of duty. But the new house was apparently haunted by demons. Jeanette was even able to capture footage on security cameras of looming black figures stalking and attacking the family.
Further investigation revealed pentagrams all over the home. It turns out a cult used to conjure demons in the house. It was all so much that Jeanne called in paranormal investigators to banish the demons. During the ceremony, they saw the demon in a cabinet just as it burst into flames. But the cleansing was...

Of the number of shows in the “paranormal reenactment” genre that are on television, several of which air on Syfy, Paranormal Witness (on Syfy) is among the most successful, both ratings-wise and, in my opinion, in execution. Sure, there is not too much in its presentation that you haven’t seen in many a horror film (and some shots and setups seem even borrowed from notable fright flicks), but the series is generally effective in creating a tense atmosphere, and in delivering a few shocks. It will continue to attempt to creep you out as Paranormal Witness Season 3 premieres June [...]
