A quirky yet savvy Will Trent arrests bad guys and struggles to contain his dyslexia

I liked the pilot episode. The characters are real, who come from a variety of backgrounds including being parentless and having to survive physical and mental abuse even under the hands of their abusers during their childhoods.

The pilot packs a good punch of reality as we get to understand the dynamics between some of the detectives who work in the precinct with Will Trent. Everyone understands that Will Trent is quirky, and that he marches to his own drummer. But when push comes to shove it is Will Trent the brass rely on to figure out the who, what, where, when and why of a crime and/or a murder scene.

Mrs. Shullivan and I liked the pilot episode and look forward to watching future episodes. I give this pilot episode a praise worthy 8 out of 10 IMDb rating.

Wanted to rate it 10...but...

I was soooooo close to a 10 rating, but as this was the pilot episode I didn't want to put the proverbial cart in front of proverbial horse.

Before I get into this first episode I have to admit that it was the third episode we saw. We saw episode #8 first then we saw #9. Absolutely loved them so we're now streaming the first seven.

Though I love this genre in books I have never heard of Karin Slaughter and her crime novels, now I do. I am really looking forward to reading them and getting caught up in this series. I'll bet the stand alone books are great too, kinda like Connelly & Harry Bosch.

I like Will Trent's vulnerabilities and his dyslexia, I now get the significance of his tape recorder, oh yea, and his up bringing. All the personalities are written so well and with so much detail.

As I said, I wanted to rate this a 10, but I'm sure I'll will in future episodes.

Oh yea, pay attention to Betty.

Good stuff

I really enjoyed the first couple of episodes, looking forward to the rest of the series. I like the acting, I like the cast and I like the writing. Remins me a little of Monk. I am interested to see where it heads. The premis is good and I enjoyed the storyline.

As usual some human watches 2 minutes of an episode and decides it is trash, pathetic as always. I am pretty sure that the person is single, pretty hard to have a relationship if you never give anyone more than 3 minutes of your time in order to establish a relationship.

Give it a go and take at a minimum half an episode befor eyou make a decision.

This is NOT Will Trent!
bmeiser-6832525 February 2023
If you know and love Will Trent, as written by Karin Slaughter, you will be sorely disappointed with this show. Not only does Will Trent look nothing like he's described in the books, he acts nothing like him other. Slaughter has the most well-developed characters I've ever read. I was hoping for a series about Trent, but not this series. The books are gritty, dramatic, and intense, the first 5 minutes of the show gave me nothing. It left me questions-did the writers read these books from start to finish? Did Karin Slaughter even approve this? I know that movies/tv is never better than the book, I was just hoping it would get in the ballpark.

Obnoxiously negative.

Ragging on someone once or twice, fine. But every conversation seems to be some horrible dig, mysoginistc attack or insult. It got old in the first 3 minutes. Hating the actors, hating the dialog, hating the plot. I give this train wreck 8 shows. It wants to be the next Dexter, but nothing except hostility. It's trying to be smart, but it's overly scripted and not on the mark. This mess is all over the map. The characters are all playing to immature ignorance.

The only upside is. Sonja Shon who played Burnhams mother in Star Trek Discovery. As the Captain, she seems to have the best lines and bead on the story.
