The Epitome Of A Freak Geek
Theo Robertson9 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
There's only real question worth asking . Not what is the meaning of life because life has no meaning and not what happens after death because nothing happens after life and sadly very little happens during it either . No the only question is " How far would you go to impress a woman ? "

What's that you're saying ? You're more than willing to run down several city blocks and become a bicycle thief just to talk to a young pretty girl who smiled at you ? Hmmm I don't think you understand girls . What would Justin Bieber do ? It doesn't matter because a restraining order and the law courts possibly await . And stay away from the internet because next thing you'll be asking is what Chris Hansen is doing ?

Somewhat mindful of this writer/director Kevin Lacey's short film has the central character Toby portrayed as more of a harmless love sick geek rather than a freakoid who is going to be ending up in court very soon . It's pretty clear that Toby is following the girl on the bus simply because he perceived that she smiled at him , but there's nothing to suggest she has any interest in him . Put it like this if your teenage daughter was subject to Toby's affection would be happy ? not so light hearted now is it ?

And before you ask what how far I'd go to impress a woman the answer is very simple - change the world . That is if I'm able to tear myself away from the internet and write about movies on the IMDb

Cooler delivery than the material actually deserves

A guy is just dumped and laments that it would end this way with him alone forever; until that is he spots a fresh-faced girl effortlessly getting onto a tram who could be the one for him. Unfortunately his day-dreaming means he misses said tram and sets out on a massive shortcut to catch her up and claim the happiness that is rightfully theirs.

The first thing to note in this film is how well directed it is. It looks good from start to finish and the tone of it is pretty cool throughout – even the end titles are pretty cleverly done and come over as well designed but yet still with an air of effortless cool to them! This aspect is worth noting because it is by far the strongest aspect and it covers the weaker parts to a point. The construct of the film is equally cool and the comedy is rooted in a truth – it is easy to "fall in love" if you are basing it on a fleeting look, a pretty smile or a cute face; indeed our character falls in love several times here.

The material could have been stronger though. There are some funny moments and i quite enjoyed it but ultimately it didn't feel polished enough in terms of content – I wanted it to be just a little bit "more" in that regard. There is a reason why the look and design of it stuck in my mind more than the content. Still amusing for what it is but the design and direction are both stronger than I thought the material actually deserved.
