A Great Episode

Warning: Spoilers
This is such a good episode because so much happens. The case for the week was pretty interesting because the team is trying to figure out how someone was killed and dismembered in a prison.

The most exciting part of the episode, of course, is that Bones gives birth!! I honestly don't hate the plot of them giving birth in a barn. Is it super realistic? No, probably not. Does it make for a good plot point in a fictional tv show that people turn on for enjoyment? Yes, definitely.

The reason I didn't give this 10/10 is mainly because of Daisy. She became a doula because Bones is pregnant, how fricking creepy!! And of course, it wouldn't be a Daisy episode if we didn't get a nasty scene between her and Sweets where she is being overly sexual in a public place. This time, it's in the work place, in Bones' office, which has glass walls. It seems as though Daisy also needs a refresher on what consent is because Sweets said no at first, so shame on her.

For the record, I disagree with everything that xbatgirl-30029 wrote in their review. Bones is not out of character when she responds with "I don't have a book" to Angela, throughout all 7 seasons Bones has taken typical sayings wayyyy to literally. Also, who doesn't love the Buck and Wanda episode at the circus. I guess what I am trying to say is everything in this episode seems on point with other episodes of Bones. Also, considering it is a tv show, I think it is okay that we, as an audience, didn't see the afterbirth and that Bones kept her clothes on.

Best Part: Baby Christine

Worst Part: Daisy and Sweets 🤢

One of my least favorite episodes

Warning: Spoilers
In general I like this series and have watched it more than once in reruns. I'd never say it was ever award winning, top level tv but it's fun level junk food and I like the characters. But boy, I dislike this episode. There are certain episodes that stick in my mind for their ridiculous plots and that I can't even bother to watch, like where they go undercover in the circus. So, yeah, pregnant Bones trapped in a prison riot is up there with the ultimate worst.

In general, most tv episodes where a the main character gives birth are terribly hack, melodramatic, and tiring to watch. This one is one of the worst. I also have issues where a writer has long running characters suddenly acting out of character or becomes parodies of themselves. So that's definitely at work here. Bones may take things too literally, but she's not supposed to be mentally challenged- such as Angela says "here one for your book" and Bones responds "I don't have a book." Der. Anyway, in reality people say "here one for the books" but the writer creates unnatural dialog just to make dumb jokes and misunderstandings.

On top of all that, Bones usually is a free thinker and not bogged down by societal norms, so at times she can seem hippie-ish. This writer took it way too far with Bones insisting on a home birth. There's no way her science would go for that. But typical of male tv writers, there's only two types of birth - outdated versions of a antiseptic hospitals (not modern birthing units) or a birth that takes place in five minutes in barn, with no umbilical cord or afterbirth. You don't even need to take your clothes off! Even worse, we get Bones acting incredibly whiny and annoying on a level that is totally out of character. It's the same with Daisy, who I usually like, but she's unbearable here.

At least we get Pruitt Taylor Vince, who is a very underrated character actor.

Scientific people recommending home birth instead of hospital ... and one of them does a doula

Scientific people recommending home birth instead of hospital ... and one of them does a doula...I have no words. I don't understand this series sometimes. If we ignore these fallacies, the episode is not bad.

Horrible writing to push a Christian narrative

Warning: Spoilers
They made bones the dumbest possible woman for this episode, making her stubborn enough to storm a crowded prison lunchroom. They made the ever rational bones ignore every precaution to put her into a barn to parallel the supposed birth of Christ.

At Least We Don't Have to Wait for Any More Babies

I have to agree that this is a silly, contrived episode. The whole "no room at the inn" is itself ridiculous. Come on. Even if you buy into that stuff, don't try to give it legitimacy in this show. And how sanatized was this birth? I also agree that Brennan couldn't have been more stupid. She is after some guy's shoes and walks through a wave of murderers and thieves and they step aside--during a brawl. The case itself is such a stretch, and the solution beyond belief. Please, don't anyone else get pregnant. I suppose now we can move in on that super-hacker guy who is a threat to humanity. It's good that I like the show because I'm going to pretend this one never happened.
