Comedian Kurt Braunohler doesn’t have the most famous face (if you know him, it’s from his IFC game show Bunk), but you know his voice. He has appeared on several episodes of Bob’s Burgers, and he also hosts his own podcast on the Nerdist network called The K Ohle. His new stand-up album How Do I Land? is fantastically funny, and it contains the best of Braunohler’s extra-absurd dives into everything from misdirected text messages to his epically strange run-in with Sacha Baron Cohen.

Chris Gethard, a comedian and improviser best known for his cult public access program "The Chris Gethard Show," will soon join IFC, the cable channel announced Monday.
The New York City-based comedian will host broadcast programming and create original content for IFC.com. Gethard performed a similar role for IFC last March during the South By Southwest festival in Austin, Tex.
IFC is also looking to develop Gethard's memoir, "A Bad Idea I’m About To Do: True Tales of Seriously Poor Judgment and Stunningly Awkward Adventure." They have ordered a pilot script based on the book.
Bringing Gethard into the fold of IFC is part of the channel's new "Adopt-a-Comic" program, which aims to give a wider audience to specific comedians who they deem worthy. "This program is IFC’s way of spotlighting comedians we admire," said IFC's president and general manager Jennifer Caserta. "We’re extremely grateful...

One mark of a great comedian is such heavy commitment to a joke that it doesn't require an immediate audience reaction, or even an audience at all. Kurt Braunohler, who is currently hosting the IFC game show, "Bunk," is one such comedian.
Kurt has made a habit of going to bookstores and places that sell greeting cards, inscribing his own messages in the store's wares, and leaving them behind for the unsuspecting customers with the hope that they'll have an unexpected laugh. He obviously gets a kick out of this prank, and this joy reveals his underlying philosophy about comedy.
He talks about this, and more, in the first episode of filmmaker Scott Moran's new web mini-documentary series, "Modern Comedian." The doc features a mix of Braunohler planting the cards and books, and telling about it at his stand-up show "Hot Tub," which he performs with comedy partner Kristen Schaal.

Well, the cat's out of the bag. Comedian Sarah Colonna tweeted a photo of the cover of Variety's 2012's "10 Comics To Watch" ahead of its publication date.
As you can see in Colonna's photo below, the list, compiled annually by the entertainment publication, includes she and fellow comedians Jillian Bell, Kurt Braunohler, Rob Delaney, Lil' Rel Howery, Jake Hurwitz & Amir Blumenfeld of College Humor, Moshe Kasher, Joe Mande, Rory Scovel and Jessica Williams.
We'll have to wait until the end of the month to read why Variety chose the ten comedians, some up-and-coming and some already way on their way. For example, Delaney is already a household name on Twitter, having been crowned the funniest person on the social network at the 2012 Comedy Awards. Braunohler is currently hosting his own game show, "Bunk" on IFC, Joe Mande was recently hired as a writer for "Parks & Recreation" and Jessica Williams is...

On IFC's new comedy game show "Bunk," premiering June 8, host Kurt Braunohler will welcome a rotating lineup of comics to join him for 10 half-hour episodes of a surreal combination of "Double Dare" and "Family Feud" style games with "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" gags. But he won't wear shoes. The traditional television host is always perfectly coiffed and expertly appointed, Braunohler says, so he opted to go barefoot as a constant joke. "To have just one thing like that be so horribly off really makes me laugh," he says. "I like that a lot."Of course, a lot of things are a little "off" about "Bunk," the idea for which began when Braunohler was writing with Ethan T. Berlin for an MTV game show. They had grown frustrated because they felt their funniest ideas never had a chance to make it to air, so Berlin and "Bunk" co-creator Eric Bryant.

Improv comedy series "Bunk," which premieres on IFC this Friday, June 8th at 10:30pm, is unique not only for its satirical game show set-up, in comedians compete in surreal challenges (e.g. "Shame That Puppy"). It's also the first series to be greenlit out of the New York Television Festival, a landmark of the independent television movement. Founded in 2005, the event is designed to offer a new path for pilots and talent to get exposure to networks outside of the usual pitch process. Indiewire chatted with "Bunk" host and co-creator Kurt Braunohler, who's known for his stand-up as well as his work with Kristen Schaal (check out their infamous sketch "Kristen Schaal is a Horse") about how his series because the first to take this route to the small screen. To get acquired at a festival sounds more like an independent film path than one for a TV show.

As expected, AMC Networks has promoted Jennifer Caserta to IFC president and general manager. She succeeds IFC TV and Sundance Channel president Evan Shapiro, who recently left the company to become president of Participant Television. AMC Networks was not expected to seek a replacement for him, with Caserta, Evp and general manager of IFC, and Sarah Barnett, Evp and general manager of Sundance Channel, absorbing his duties. Both have reported to AMC Networks COO Ed Carroll, and in her new capacity, Caserta will continue to do so. “Jen has been a tremendous asset to the network, leading IFC’s successful rebrand and its transition last year to an ad-supported model, and implementing an original programming strategy that’s resonating with viewers,” Carroll said. As Evp as Gm of IFC, a position she had held since 2008, Caserta spearheaded IFC’s 2010 rebrand around new tagline “Always On. Slightly Off”; implemented the network...

Last June, Marc Maron announced that he shot a pilot for a TV semi-adaptation of his podcast "Wtf." On Saturday, Laughspin cites insiders that IFC plans to officially announce soon that the cable channel has picked up a full ten-episode season of the show.
Maron's show (currently untitled, but possibly also called "Wtf") will join another podcast-turned-tv show on IFC's lineup, "Comedy Bang!
