Liev Schreiber is getting candid about what he’s learned about fame over the years, saying that it alone won’t make people truly happy.
The Emmy-nominated actor shared in an interview with Haute Living magazine, published online Thursday, that after decades in the entertainment industry, he realized the importance of working on projects that he’s actually passionate about.
“I work for hire, as they say, and like to make money,” he explained. “I have a growing family. The older I get, the more I think I want it to matter when I work. Of course, it doesn’t always — in fact, it rarely does — but it’s nice when it does, when one of your jobs means something to people. That feels good, like the job does what it was supposed to do in the beginning, which is to connect you to people.”

Exclusive: The director of Riz Ahmed and Rogan Productions’ Channel 4 series Defiance: Fighting the Far Right has opened up about how the show spotlights generational differences within the British Asian community.
Defiance, which launched earlier this week to positive reviews, shines a stark light on the violent struggles of the British Asian community in the late ‘70s and ‘80s, and is told over three hours of interviews and archival footage.
Satiyesh Manoharajah tells Deadline that the show co-produced by Oscar-nominated British Asian star Ahmed explores themes of conflict within the South Asian community, between the older generation who wanted to maintain a low profile and the younger ones who felt that staying quiet was going to get them nothing of significance. This, he adds, is particularly stark due to the fact that the the first British Asian Prime Minister was appointed two years ago.

At least stateside, audiences will experience Femme and The Beast, both starring George MacKay, as near-simultaneous releases. The 32-year-old British actor has been a presence for over two decades dating back to his film debut as a Lost Boy in 2003’s adaptation of Peter Pan. He grew up on screen in films like 2008’s Defiance, 2014’s Pride, and 2016’s Captain Fantastic. Twenty nineteen proved a breakthrough year for MacKay as a leading man, playing a heroic soldier on a mission in 1917 and delivering a brooding, brutal interpretation of Australian urban legend Ned Kelly in True History of the Kelly Gang.
MacKay’s latest one-two punch features elements familiar from his previous standout roles and elevates them to new heights. In Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping’s Femme, he’s electric as Preston, a hardened hypebeast in contemporary London who harbors a secret identity. The character is drawn out...

The closest comp to Ed Zwick’s new memoir Hits, Flops And Other Illusions: My Fortysomething Years in Hollywood is William Goldman’s Adventures in the Screen Trade, where he posited a definitive piece of advice on the elusive formula for hit making: “Nobody knows anything.” Although he didn’t create the “if you want to send a message, try Western Union” line that has many authors, Zwick spent a career trying to defy that adage, in directing, writing and producing a long list of great and meaningful films and TV series topped by the Oscar winning Shakespeare in Love and Traffic, to Glory, Blood Diamond, About Last Night, Defiance, The Last Samurai, The Siege, thirtysomething, My So Called Life and many others.
Comparing his book to Goldman sets a high bar. Like the scripter of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid did, Zwick might fawn over great actors like Denzel Washington,...

Today at Comic-Con, Joe and Anthony Russo announced projects that their AGBO Studios are in development on: an adaptation of the 1978 Japanese anime series Battle of the Planets and an Amazon series based on the graphic novel Grimjack Comics.
Battle of the Planets was originally created by Tatsuo Yoshida and Tatsunoko Studios and was arguably the first mainstream glimpse for U.S. audiences into Japanese anime during the late 1970s. In addition, it was one of the few sci-fi cartoons during that era. The series follows five young orphans who are trained from a young age to form an elite, intergalactic team known as G-Force, swearing to protect Earth and its allies from otherworldly invading forces.

Exclusive: As his Showtime series Ray Donovan moves to New York for its sixth season, Liev Schreiber has joined up with Matthew Stillman to launch Illuminated Content, a Gotham-based venture to develop, produce and finance TV and movie projects. Former Maven Pictures producer Hardy Justice will head up development and production at the company’s offices in New York. The aim is to generate three to four projects per year across various platforms, with Illuminated Content producing and co-financing.
The company will allow Schreiber and Stillman to accelerate the entrepreneurial ambitions they have built on separate tracks. Operating around his Ray Donovan schedule — where he is producer and has directed several pivotal episodes — Schreiber has methodically been broadening his canvas. To celebrate #BackToHogwarts Day tomorrow, J.K. Rowling is joined by the cast and crew of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald to reminisce over their favourite Hogwarts memories in this brand new featurette.
Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” is the second of five all new adventures in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.
At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MacUsa (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings.
In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead.

Trion Worlds acquired assets from the now-defunct Gazillion Entertainment, according to a report from VentureBeat.
This acquisition includes “all Gazillion licenses, trademarks, patents and domains, in addition to its library of games” as revealed in an interview with Trion’s CEO, Scot Hartsman. Gazillion’s relationship with Disney ended in November 2017, and their Mmo “Marvel Heroes Omega” was shut down not long after.
The assets Gazillion left behind will provide tools for Trion Worlds to develop their titles, including a game engine that is easier to develop isometric games, in which the player has a bigger, angled view of the game map.
Trion Worlds is the publisher of the 17-million-players strong “Trove,” which has been compared to “Minecraft” and Mmo’s “Rift” and “Defiance.” The new tools will help Trion add to their existing titles and create new games, but they also intend for them to be used by other...

Over the last 10 months Roobla has partnered with Veboli.com offering our movie reviews to their users to help them choose which movies to watch. With all this data Veboli founder Thomas van Wageningen noticed various patterns in how critics rate movies compared to users and has compiled this short, but interesting report for us.
At Veboli, we’re always thinking of ways to improve the movie advice we give the movie lovers on our site. Last summer we rounded up movie critics from all over the world, including seven here at Roobla, to connect movie lovers to critics that best understand their own taste in movies. This of course generates a lot of data. With all that data, I wondered: how do you users compare to critics?
Before diving into the movies, let’s look at how the critics here at Roobla compare to the average users ratings on Veboli.

"Pyewacket can take many forms, don't trust your lying eye." IFC Midnight has released an official trailer for a horror thriller titled Pyewacket, which first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year. Made by Canadian filmmaker Adam MacDonald (Backcountry), the occult nightmare film is about a girl who puts a curse on her mother for fun, but it suddenly becomes all too real as an evil presence known as Pyewacket begins to make itself known, tormenting both of them. Nicole Muñoz (seen in Tooth Fairy, "Defiance") stars, along with Laurie Holden, Chloe Rose, Eric Osborne, and Romeo Carere. This looks like your standard occult punk rock horror, with a few cool touches but nothing special. It's described as "a complex mother-daughter tale and a frightening fable about our darkest desires." If you're a horror fan, take a peek. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Adam MacDonald's Pyewacket, direct from...
