Hurricane of brilliance

Am a big fan of 'My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic', even if not every episode works with none of the nine seasons being exempt from disappointment. Also like Fluttershy a lot, though there are times where it is hard to not wish to see more of her, and there are some fantastic episodes that center around her or at least when she plays a major role. When she is used well and is characterised well, she is one of the more likeable characters of the Mane 6 and one of the more relatable ones.

"Hurricane Fluttershy" is one of the best Fluttershy-centric episodes, though all the other characters are equally strongly written and the character relationships done flawlessly. Add to that a wide range of emotions and some thrilling moments, and you have one of the best episodes of Season 2 quite easily and one of the show's high points. Have seen and heard very few bad words said about "Hurricane Fluttershy" personally (one of the exceptions of the second season in this regard), though that may be different for others, and it is easy to see why. An enormous improvement over the missed opportunity that was the previous episode "Dragon Quest" any day.

My one slight nit-pick, and a very inconsequential one, is Spike not serving much point in the episode. That though is so small compared to everything else, and everything else is outstanding.

The animation is terrific. Especially in the training montage, the hallway of red eyes and the climax. Possibly the best-looking episode of the second season and one of the best-looking of the whole show. The writing is still immensely characterful. The writing is a perfect balance of hilarious and poignant, the tree and bulk biceps jokes are a sheer delight.

On top of these, the climax is just exhilerating, that is packed with thrills and packs an emotional punch. The story not just entertains but is extremely heartfelt as well with great attention to detail in character writing and character chemistry.

Fluttershy is developed amazingly here, having not been this touchingly or compellingly portrayed in a while. Really felt for her every step of the way, felt her internal struggles and really related to her. Her and Rainbow Dash's chemistry has entertainment value but it is also very moving and heart-warming, great to see Rainbow Dash acting like a true friend. The voice acting is terrific too.

In conclusion, brilliant. 10/10
