Dramatic story, great new characters.

The mystery element to this one isn't the big deal here, as the killer's identity is pretty obvious. What is impressive here is how well Jack and Clarissa have settled in, and how quickly their characters have settled into the show. Harry was so well thought of who could have thought that a new guy would fill the void instantly, but that's what Jack did.

It's all about corruption, deception and cover ups, all organisations will cover their own, but within the organisations there are those willing to sell secrets and deceive for financial gain, it's a somewhat bleak story.

Sharon Small is fantastic once again. Liz Carr makes a cracking debut.

Impressive. 8/10

Introducing Harry's replacement; Jack Hodgson
Tweekums12 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This two part story opens with two unrelated scenes that are interwoven. In one a businessman is trying to avoid having to sell his failing company and in the other a young man is taking part in a cage fight. The businessman drops dead in his hotel room and the fighter turns out to be Jack Hodgson, the forensic scientist examining the scene. He is convinced that it was murder although the police seem keen for it to be considered natural courses as that would cost them less. Nikki is inclined to believe it was natural courses but becomes less sure when less evidence is found than would be expected; the room contains virtually no fingerprints. Meanwhile the dead man's estranged daughter turns up and learns she has inherited the business and by an apparent coincidence her father had just found the girl who claims to be the daughter she put up for adoption. As the investigation continues more deaths occur and somebody within the investigating team is leaking information to the media.

This was a good opening to the sixteenth series although it was a shame Harry left without a proper send off. David Caves makes a nice addition to the cast in the role of Jack; it could prove interesting that his character is a forensic scientist rather than another pathologist. I'm sure that most viewers will at least suspect the guilty party but as everybody seems to have a motive it isn't easy to be sure who the killer is. The conclusion of the case was a little melodramatic but certainly satisfying; as was Jack's choice of location to confront the source of the leak. Having a leak certainly fitted in with real life police behaviour as a senior Metropolitan Police officer was found guilty of such offences in the week this was broadcast!

Would have been a 10 except subtract one because Clarissa is cringeworthy. Villain gets what's coming to him is a huge plus. Extra judicial resolution is always desirable.

New character Jack is a plus. Manly men, in short supply now, are always welcome.

Great story albeit a bit convoluted as usual.

So many characters can be confusing...granddaughter, love child, brother, uncle, father, advisor, attorney....phew!

But all good.

Well acted all around and I must say again it is satisfying to see snarky, evil doers get skewered.

No ambiguity in the ending. No wondering that a court case might set him free.

9 stars for sure.

Good Substantial Story

With new characters on board, the investigation of the murder of a candy mogul continues. There are some underbelly types who are working to take control of and sell the company for big bucks. The daughter of the guy is the loose cannon. She is torn by her own integrity versus an experience as a fifteen year old. People who get in the way, pay with their lives. Eventually, the steam rises and the cork pops. The main characters are new and unique and it should be fun to see how things go in the future. I'm not totally sure about the new guy, but I am willing to give him a shot. I hope his combativeness isn't too much a part of things.
