As if escape from a David Lynch movie we see heads on a stick and crazy s*** flying around nothing good for the face or the mines this movie is genius nevertheless and should be seen by all the weirdos out there. Definitely a must.

Fascinating

Warning: Spoilers
I liked a lot this stop-motion short, which in a couple of minutes reunites some of the most fascinating elements that could be expected in a surrealist masterpiece: If the Brothers Quay, Chris Cunningham, Jan Švankmajer and David Lynch worked together to make an animation, I'm sure the result would be something like this.

The creepy imagery displayed in "Crooked Rot" not only manages to be more creative and unsettling than anything I have seen in many of the so- called horror movies from the recent years, but also has a mesmerizing quality which makes it a fascinating watching experience.

The Cursed Videotape from The Ring got nothing on this.

Perfectly executed

For what it is, this is done to perfection. This is a perfect showcase for Firth's talents and demonstrates his mastery of the stop motion style.

Evokes a feeling of manic dread. Beautiful and bizarre.

Well-Made and Bizarrely Nightmarish Stop-Motion Surrealist Film

I looked through David Flirth's filmography on IMDb to see if there were any more shorts like this but alas, this is his only surrealist film. Considering it must therefore be pretty out-of-place when put in the context of Flirth's other films, one must wonder what inspired it. As other reviewers have already stated, it does seem much in the vein of the films of the Brothers Quay and Jan Svankmajer, so I for one could infer that the filmmaker had a fascination with these previous animators and created this in as a sort of homage. The thing is, it is actually better than most homages - maybe just as good as a Quay or Svankmajer film.

As one might see in a short by those older stop-motion masters, this film makes use of dismembered body parts which move of their own will. It is even darker than something they might make - blood and gore galore and very well-made despite the cheap materials utilized (including the foam heads). The lighting makes the atmosphere very creepy and the imagery is very effective in what it does. Definitely a must-see if you are a fan of Svankmajer or Quay - equally good or even better despite the fact this filmmaker clearly was not devoted to films of that genre.

Nothing creeped since
matty_d_32128 October 2019
I was 16 when i discovered this short 11 years ago. Not a single thing has managed to creep me out ever since. I lost all fascination with horror films as none of them did to me what this short video managed to do to me. If you enjoy inexplicably weird and creepy stuff, this is a MUST!
