What happened to Bobby Deol? At one time a prime candidate for stardom he is now the target of parody-websites. Bobby is not seen much in public either. But now that is going to change. According to reliable sources Bobby is all set to make a comeback in a film specially directed for him by his brother Sunny Deol. Says a source close to the Deol family, "Dharamji is very worried about Bobby's career. He was doing well, and all of a sudden he is in oblivion. Dharamji and Sunny Paaji are now planning a film especially for Bobby. This will start immediately after Sunny's Ghayal Once Again is released." Bobby was last seen in the family film Yamla Pagla Deewana 2. Its failure left him shattered.

We are back with another look at what happened on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa! This week’s show opened with the international judge Maksim Chmerkovskiy dancing to the song ‘Criminal’ from Ra One. The audience really loved his performance, as it was the first time Maksim had danced solo on the show.
Host Ranvir, then tricked the contestants into a “pass the parcel” game, by throwing them a mirror ball and saying that whoever caught the ball, would go directly into the face-off. But judge Karan Johar used his “jhoothameter” and said that Ranvir was fooling around, the mirror ball would say who was safe from the eliminations.
This week’s theme was Made in India which meant the contestants would be performing on dance styles that originated from India.
Actor Ashish Sharma & his choreographer Shampa were the first to perform. They danced on the song ‘Har Kisi Ko Nahin Milta’ from the film Boss.

In the industry for over three decades and a veteran of close to 100 films, Sunny Deol has at times been tagged as moody by the makers. This is what the team of ‘Dishkiyaoon’ too feared when the actor was roped in for an all important part of ‘Lakwa’ in the film. As it turned out though, all fears were unfounded once the actor was required to be on the sets.
Says first time director Sanamjit Talwar, “Yes, I had heard that he is moody and that he comes on sets based on how he feels on a particular day. However I didn’t see any of that on my film. For a 12 hours grueling shoot of 7 Am in the morning till 7 Pm in the evening, he would be on the sets at 6:30 Am itself.”

It is star kids season this year, the latest scion, Karan Deol, of the illustrious Deol clan, is waiting in the wings for his debut. As many other star-kid hopefuls before him, Karan learnt the introductory ropes as an assistant director to Sangeeth Sivan for Yamla Pagla Deewana 2. This proved to be a close bonding experience for father and son, who is weighing up the options for his upcoming debut.

With the opening weekend of ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana 2′ not really setting the box office on fire, there was a scare factor around the film nose-diving in the weekdays. Fortunately for the makers, the results weren’t as bad as it seemed back then as the days to follow were reasonably okay. Yes, it was ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ which was still earning better but the Deol flick managed to keep it’s head over the water. Well, just about, since at the end of the first week, the collections were around 35 crores which are on the same lines as what ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ had gathered two years back.
However, difference between the two films lies in the overall word of mouth. Part one was largely appreciated while part two is mainly enjoying patronage in single screens. With quite a few number of films arriving week after week from this point on,...

It's top of the UK box office in spite of lacklustre figures, while Behind the Candelabra and Made of Stone sneak up the list
The winner
After landing at a disappointing third place in the Us chart the previous weekend, it was down to the overseas territories to pick up the slack for Sony's After Earth, which teams global superstar Will Smith with son Jaden. Could foreign make up for the weak results at domestic? Well, no complaints from Sony at its UK chart position (it's at the top) but the box-office number, £2.25m, is nothing to get excited about. By rule of thumb it's actually behind the pace of its Us debut of $27.5m – you'd expect a UK figure of around £2.7m. The result trails behind the debuts not just of 2013 franchise pictures such as Fast & Furious 6 (£8.72m) and Star Trek Into Darkness (£8.43m including previews), but also of similarly themed non-sequels.

The law of diminishing returns which often determines the box-office trajectory of sequels doesn.t apply to the Fast & Furious franchise.
The sixth edition of the guns, cars, girls and action caper raked in $13.6 million from Thursday through Monday, a record for the franchise. That was 41 per cent bigger than the five-day opening of the fifth edition, which had the benefit of the Easter vacation..

Bollywood action comedy Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, the sequel to a 2011 hit, opened fairly well.

It was largely felt that post the success of Yamla Pagla Deewana and the kind of recall value that the film enjoyed, the sequel would take a good start for itself. Unfortunately though, while one part of the prediction (an average beginning of 50%) was met, the apprehensions [as stated in last week's column] around ‘comedy to really work’ and ‘gags to be really solid enough’ also (unfortunately) came true. This means that even though Friday started well, the evening and night shows didn’t show the kind of escalation that one expected before the film hit the screens.
As a result, the opening weekend was in the same range as that of Yamla Pagla Deewana i.e. 23 crores*. Now this was over two years back and that too with lesser screen count and ticket price. While one expected weekend to fetch at least 30 crores, if not 35 crores (which were the first week collections of Yamla Pagla Deewana...

New Delhi, June 9: Despite aggressive promotion and marketing by Deols, their home production "Yamla Pagla Deewana 2" (Ypd 2) made a tepid start at the box office, raking in approximately Rs.16.6 crore in the first two days of its release.

The film was not as good in the Mumbai-Maharashtra circuit with around 40- 50 percent start as the youths preferred the week old Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. South was as always low (for a Deol film) with about 25-30 percent opening. With the enjoyable laugh riot b...

Welcome back to the UK. You guys shot here and now you are here promoting the film. How does it feel?
Bobby Deol: It feels good to be back here. I have been coming here since I was five-years-old. Now that I am in London, I am actually missing Leicester and Birmingham. I would like to go back and walk around and spend some time there. So,...

Film: "Yamla Pagla Deewana 2"; Cast: Dharmendra, Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Neha Sharma, and Christina Akheeva; Director: Sangeeth Sivan; Rating: ** - a 'torturous' joke.
It is awfully painful to see the iconic Dharmendra, who has acted in several imperishable comedies during his heydays, being reduced to a mere parodic shadow of his old flamboyant utterly unaffected self in this cheerless travesty masquerading as a comedy.
If you are one of those who thought the first segment of this farcical franchise was painful and laboured, then wait till you see what the sequel has in store. "Yamla Pagla Deewana" appears decidedly desirable.

Bollywood Summer has begun. If Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani continues to create and break records, the Deols too can expect a record start for a film of theirs with Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 arriving this weekend. The buzz is good, the hype has been just right, the songs are reasonably popular and the look is good. Moreover with the leading ladies Neha Sharma and Kristina Akheeva adding on to the glamour quotient, a ‘masala’ package for the entire family is in the offering.
All of this means that Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 would embark on a safe start for itself and with a huge release to boast of, anything over an average of 50% all India opening would be good enough for the film to gain momentum over the weekend. Of course a film of this genre also relies a lot on the word of mouth as the comedy has to really work.

Mumbai, May 27: Actor Sunny Deol, who is busy promoting his forthcoming family film "Yamla Pagla Deewana 2", which stars him along with his father Dharmendra and brother Bobby, finds promotional activities stressful.
"It has become more stressful of late. It's a waste of money, waste of time, waste of everything! You can use that much of money making another film, how much you spend on the public relations these days," Sunny said in an interaction.
