Actor Akshay Oberoi has talked about the importance of cameo roles in the film industry. The actor believes that each character serves a purpose in advancing the storyline.
In his own career, Akshay has often portrayed cameo roles, acknowledging their significance in contributing to the larger story.
“Every role, regardless of its size, holds the power to make a meaningful impact on the audience. While I have often taken on cameo roles, I believe that each character serves a purpose in advancing the storyline and enriching the overall cinematic experience,” he said.
Akshay, whose latest release is Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone-starrer ‘Fighter’, made his acting debut as a child in the 2002 comedy-drama ‘American Chai’. He played his first leading role in ‘Isi Life Mein’.
The actor was then seen starring in films such as ‘Pizza’, ‘Piku’, ‘Fitoor’, ‘Gurgaon’, ‘Kaalakaandi’, ‘I Love You’ and ‘Gaslight’ to name a few.

As conspiracy theories continue to swirl snd the Telegraph fills with irritated harrumphing about KateGate (are we calling it that?), the Royal Family is probably not exactly thrilled that Netflix has chosen today to launch the full trailer for Scoop, which digs into another not-so-stellar moment for The Firm: Prince Andrew's nail-chewingly awkward Newsnight interview with the Beeb's Emily Maitlis about his connections to Jeffrey Epstein. Take a look:
Adapted from former Newsnight producer Sam McAlister’s memoir Scoops: Behind The Scenes Of The BBC’s Most Shocking Interview, the new film will see Billie Piper as McAlister, who led the high-stakes negotiations to secure the interview as allegations about sexual misconduct with a minor swirled around Andrew. Gillian Anderson is Maitlis, who would go on to conduct the no-holds barred one-on-one, which ended up covering the Prince's bizarre pizza-based alibi and his claim that thanks to his service in the Falklands,...

Maestro star Bradley Cooper was the victim of brutal trolls this awards season, most of which came out of an alleged rivalry with Oppenheimer star Cillian Murphy. While Cooper never made any ill comments towards his awards competitors, the actor’s several actions clearly suggest that he yearns for Oscar recognition. He was famously snubbed for the Best Actor Award at the 94th Academy Award for the film Nightmare Alley, which fans are celebrating on X now.

Many fans believed that Cooper was also snubbed for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar the same year for his brief appearance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza. The Guardians of the Galaxy actor is currently among the Oscar nominees for his performance as Leonard Bernstein in Maestro.

Exclusive: Warner Bros has Paul Thomas Anderson set to direct Oscar winners Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn as well as Regina Hall in an untitled film that will begin production this year in California. Anderson wrote the script, and he will produce the film with Sara Murphy and Adam Somner.
The film is currently untitled and they’re keeping the logline under wraps. We have learned that it is a contemporary setting and it is the most commercial one PTA has attempted, with commensurate budget. It came out of a relationship that Warner Bros Picture Group co-chairs/CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy built making PTA’s last film, Licorice Pizza, while they ran MGM. That film got three Oscar noms for Best Picture, and Best Screenplay and Best Director for PTA.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Like so many other children of the '80s, I watched the animated series religiously, dressed up as the characters for Halloween, had Turtle-themed birthday parties, and played with those awesome action figures.
So when Paramount was putting together some press opportunities to promote the home video release of its excellent new animated film "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" and offered me the chance to speak with Kevin Eastman, who co-created the original Turtles comic with Peter Laird back in 1984, I immediately said yes, even though our conversation could only last five minutes. That's not nearly enough time to delve into all the different eras of the Turtles throughout their storied history, but in our short interview, Eastman told me about his favorite "Tmnt" movie moments, what it's been like...

To pluck, or not to pluck. That was the question on Benny Safdie’s mind in preparing to play theoretical physicist Edward Teller in “Oppenheimer.”
Teller, the Budapest-born “father of the hydrogen bomb,” joined J. Robert Oppenheimer in Los Alamos to develop the earlier atomic bomb. He was notorious for his thick Austro-Hungarian accent and is rumored to have even inspired Peter Sellers’ title character in Stanley Kubrick’s “Dr. Strangelove.” And then, there were, of course, Teller’s unkempt, thick eyebrows, which Safdie said are all his.
Speaking with Vulture, Safdie said, “I am proud to say that it’s all my eyebrows. Teller had the best eyebrows.”
The “Uncut Gems” co-director and “Licorice Pizza” star added that Nolan really wanted Safdie to commit to the bit. “Every once in a while I have a straggler that I’ll just pluck out, cause it looks a little too crazy.

OpinionVijay Sethupathi, in choosing the type of films he did early on in his acting career, managed to break many moulds set by his predecessors. But his recent choice of films have been worrisome.Endearingly called ‘Makkal Selvan’ (son of the people), Vijay Sethupathi has undoubtedly made an unique mark in the Tamil film industry. Without a film background or a mentor to boast of, the actor has won people’s hearts over the years by delivering some fine performances in films such as Soodhu Kavvum, Pizza, Orange Mittai, and Super Deluxe. But in recent times, his choice of films and the trajectory of his career as a lead actor have been worrisome. Throughout his career as an actor, Vijay Sethupathi never followed the conventional path of Tamil male actors who eventually aspire to become ‘stars’ and refuse to play small or experimental characters. Rather, the actor associated with any...

There was nothing dysfunctional about the debut of Ari Aster’s mind-bending Beau Is Afraid at the specialty box office.
The movie scored a location average of $80,099 from four theaters in New York and Los Angeles, the best average of 2023 to date for a specialty film. It was also the second-best specialty average of the pandemic era behind November 2021’s Licorice Pizza ($86,289, four locations) and the second-best ever for A24 behind December 2019’s Uncut Gems ($107,400, five locations), not adjusted for inflation.
Beau Is Afraid is another win for A24, home of 2023 Oscar winner Everything Everywhere All at Once. Beau’s total weekend gross of $320,400 was no doubt goosed by select showings in Imax auditoriums — tickets for the premium format can run $25 or more in L.A. and New York — in addition to regular screenings.

Actor Akshay Oberoi has opened up about playing a character with a blue-blooded upbringing besides sharing how he prepared for his role in the film ‘Gaslight’.
The actor said: “I love playing these characters, where it’s not clear who they are and as the film progresses, their personality comes out. In this film as well, the character is not meant to be played for laughs, but rather, there’s something about his lineage that he’s trying to chase.”
The 38-year-old actor, who made his debut as a child actor in ‘American Chai’ and later worked in films like ‘Isi Life Mein’, ‘Pizza’, ‘Piku’, ‘Fitoor’, ‘Laal Rang’, ‘Thar’, and ‘Love Hostel’, is all set for his next project ‘Gaslight’, which is a mystery thriller starring Sara Ali Khan in the lead role playing a differently-abled woman, Misha.

Many aspiring actors only dream of landing a breakthrough role that gets them into the Hollywood circle. For Rebel Wilson, that project was 2011’s Bridesmaids. The film stars Kristen Wiig (who co-wrote the screenplay), along with an ensemble cast that includes Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Ellie Kemper, and Wendi McLendon-Covey. Here’s how Wilson managed to land a role in the movie.

Prior to Bridesmaids, the Australian-born was mostly known for starring in TV shows in her homeland. These included shows such as Pizza, The Wedge, Thank God You’re Here, Bogan Pride (which she created), and Monster House. Her only Hollywood role to date was as a background character — credited as “Girl in Alley” — in 2007’s Marvel Comics adaptation Ghost Rider.

Though delays and disappointments are inevitable, 2023 really is shaping up to be an all-time great year for gaming. In fact, it’s the kind of year that is so stacked that some games (even great ones) will inevitably get lost in the shuffle. There’s just sadly never enough time to play everything worth playing.
Yet, for fans of the long-dormant Wario Land franchise, there is only one game in 2023 that really matters. It’s called Pizza Tower, and I’m not kidding when I tell you that it has the potential to be one of the year’s best games.
Pizza Tower (available on Steam) is a 2D platformer that tells the tale of a “surprisingly agile and powerful fat balding Italian” chef named Peppino Spaghetti. Spaghetti’s peaceful life running a pizza shop is interrupted one day when the nefarious Pizza Face informs the chef that he intends...

What happens when heartbreak and pizza collide? If you let the loneliness grow too much, it will become a Pizza Monster! Hungry for nothing but tomatoes and cheese and tasty toppings. Pizza Monster is a dark comedy short film made by Dutch filmmaker Kurt Platvoet. It premiered back in 2018 at the Imagine Film Festival and Fantastic Fest, and is now available online to watch. From the tears of his failed relationship and a pile of pizza leftovers, a monster is born giving a once rejected man a new lease on life and a chance at love again. What will be the fate of this monster? The short film stars Benjamin Moen as Leon, and Sallie Harmsen as the Pizza Monster. This has some fun moments in it, but I wish there was more with the Pizza Monster before she begins to lose all of our delicious ingredients. She seems cool!

Coda took home best picture on a night where the big prizes were spread out amongst several titles.
The 94th Academy Awards took place on Sunday (March 27), returning to the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood under tight Covid protocols.
Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes co-hosted the event, which marked the first time in four years the show has had a host/s and brought to a close a long awards season in which many ceremonies and events had to be rescheduled during the Omicron surge.

The biggest upset at the 94th Academy Awards had nothing to do with any of the nominated films competing for honors. It came roughly three hours into the telecast, when Will Smith stepped on stage and slapped Chris Rock after he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. It was a stunning unscripted moment that left viewers and the audience in the Dolby theater slack-jawed. Rock, looking stunned at what had just transpired on live television, pulled himself together and announced “Summer of Soul” as the winner of Best Documentary Feature.
Smith accepted his statuette for Best Actor shortly after the incident, during which he tearfully apologized to the Academy and his fellow nominees, but not Rock.
The rest of the evening played out very much as expected. “Dune” won six categories, the most of any of the nominated films: Sound, Editing, Score, Production Design, Best Cinematography and Visual Effects.

With final Oscar balloting closing for Academy voters today at 5pm Pt, we’re continuing with our fifth annual series of interviews with Academy voters from different branches for their honest takes on what got picked, overlooked, and overvalued in the 2022 award season. Today we speak with a costume designer; interview edited for brevity.
Best Picture: I am always an outlier. I always presume anything I’m enthusiastic about won’t get in. Ten choices was an extreme stretch. What I wanted included five international titles and two documentaries. On top of this ballot: “Licorice Pizza,” “Drive My Car,” and “Don’t Look Up,” which I enjoyed as a fun, relevant, and poignant ride. “King Richard” is a good biopic: It told a story you think you know, but it turns out you don’t. It was not demonizing the father, but showing how fucked up he was, and how they...

After using his string of Haim music videos as tests for Licorice Pizza––camera technology, but also of course collaborating with Alana Haim––it’s no surprise Paul Thomas Anderson has helmed another for the band. First released solely in theaters upon the film’s widest expansion a few weeks back, the music video for “Lost Track” has now found its way online, which includes many LP collaborators behind the scenes.
As W Magazine reports, the 50s-set video, inspired by San Fernando Valley social clubs, captures “The Balboa Ladies Society” at the Annual Balboa Gold Rush and Fashion Bazaar—an idea generated by PTA himself. You can also spot PTA’s daughter Pearl Anderson, who briefly appeared in Licorice Pizza.
“You do a lot of testing. And we test not only for the actors to see how they’re doing, but also we’re testing different film stock, different technologies.

Film AnalysisIt’s beginning to look as if the director, known for his absurdist comedies, is getting swamped by his confused understanding of politics and the need to fit star actors into the industry mould.Bharathy SingaravelCourtesy/KarthikSubbarajFacebookIt’s been four days since Karthik Subbaraj’s Mahaan, starring Vikram, was released directly on the Over-the-Top platform Amazon Prime Video. But no one seems closer to understanding either the film’s ideological messaging or its tumultuous plot. The hero, named Gandhi Mahaan, is forced from childhood to live by the values of a fanatically Gandhian family until at age 40, he explodes, drinks for just one evening, leading to his wife (played by Simran), son, father-in-law and brother-in-law having a baffling, extreme public meltdown. Then, Gandhi Mahaan, in Tamil-hero-style, slaps his wife, Naachi, in front of all his neighbours. Everybody leaves him, he turns to a life of liquor brewing, gambling and...

As the pandemic wreaked havoc on festival and release schedules, the box office returned in fits and starts, but the 2021 award season brought a feast of plenty. The studios and specialty distributors saved their best for last, from Steven Spielberg’s $100-million whirling update of the stage and film musical classic “West Side Story” (20th Century/Disney), starring breakout nominee Ariana DeBose, to Canadian auteur Denis Villeneuve’s $165-million space epic “Dune” (Warner Bros./HBO Max), which landed ten nominations including Best Picture — but no acting or directing mentions.
Of course, there are only five slots to Best Picture’s ten this year. Given this tony branch’s penchant for naming international directors, they gave the nod to Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, for Best Picture nominee and Japanese Oscar entry “Drive My Car.” Many voters will assume that Hamaguchi will take the international Oscar.

Thandiwe Newton Slams Sean Penn’s Comment About Men Being Too ‘Feminized’: ‘You’re a Jibbering Fool’
Thandiwe Newton has officially weighed in.
The “Westworld” star slammed Sean Penn via Twitter after Penn voiced his criticisms on modern gender roles.
Penn previously said in an interview with The Independent that he is “in the club that believes that men in American culture have become wildly feminized.”
Penn continued, “I don’t think that being a brute or having insensitivity or disrespect for women is anything to do with masculinity, or ever did. But I don’t think that [in order] to be fair to women, we should become them…I have these very strong women in my life who do not take masculinity as a sign of oppression toward them. There are a lot of, I think, cowardly genes that lead to people surrendering their jeans and putting on a skirt.”
Newton retweeted Variety’s coverage of the interview, commenting, “Dude what are you saying? Like for real? You’re a jibbering fool…...

The nominations for the 2022 Ace Eddie Awards announced on Thursday (Jan. 27) include our Oscar frontrunner for Best Film Editing, “Dune,” along with three of the other four films we’re predicting to reap bids in that race: “Belfast,” “Don’t Look Up” and “The Power of the Dog.” While “West Side Story” was snubbed by the American Cinema Editors we expect it to be the fifth Academy Awards contender.
The Ace Eddie Awards divide their prizes for editing between dramas and comedies/musicals.
“Belfast,” “Dune” and “The Power of the Dog” contend here in the drama race, which is rounded out by “King Richard” and“No Time to Die.”
Facing off against “Don’t Look Up” on the comedy side are “Cruella,” “The French Dispatch,” “Licorice Pizza” and “tick, tick…Boom!”
In 1992, the Eddies went from three to five nominees (matching that of the Oscars) and in 2000 it split the award in two,...

Weak Thanksgiving holdovers? Absence of new titles? Uptick in Covid concerns? Confusion over home availability? Name your poison, and it still might not include the scariest possibility — that interest in moviegoing has taken a permanent hit from which it may never recover.
At $12.7 million, “Encanto” (Disney) led a weekend when all films combined could only manage around a $51 million total. This year’s animated release from the studio dropped 53 percent, within range of the post-holiday second weekend for similar titles.
But the drop came from a low-end start. Some context for the rut theaters are in: Two years ago, weekend three of “Frozen II” (which opened a week earlier) did $35 million, almost three times as much as “Encanto.” While nobody expected the Colombia-set animated film (with songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda) to perform at that sequel’s level, the shortfall is indicative of theatrical weakness — in this case, exacerbated by anticipation...
