Remakes are always a tricky proposition. Some of the greats both in the horror genre and elsewhere are actually remakes, whether it’s a loose one or not. Be it The Magnificent Seven coming from Seven Samurai or The Thing being birthed into imitation dog from the Christian Nyby and Howard Hawks original. I talk about The Thing A Lot but obviously it’s for a reason. You could also throw The Fly in that same category too while we are here. Those are some of the examples of the good but unfortunately, things can go downhill and fast. You have harmless ones like the Friday the 13th remake or Texas Chainsaw, the annoyingly unnecessary like Halloween and Amityville Horror, or the egregiously awful like The Fog and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Like them or loathe them, or in our case both, they are here to stay, and each...

Admit it – there’s at least one horror movie out there with a “gotcha” moment that made your heart slam against the inside of your ribcage. A sudden out-of-nowhere reveal, often accompanied by a loud noise on the soundtrack. Scenes like this have been making audiences soil their seats since the era of classic monster movies, and it’s not hard to see why. The response is hardwired into our brains; an instinctive fight-or-flight reflex when our natural defense mechanisms are rudely interrupted. The term “jump scare” wasn’t commonly used to label this effect until the 21st century, and it only really became part of popular culture after the birth of YouTube – which practically weaponized the technique with viral “screamer” videos and clip compilations.
Legendary director Alfred Hitchcock once famously criticized this kind of scare tactic, claiming suspense far is more effective than a sudden shock… but he’s...

Sydney Sweeney has already put the Madame Web disaster behind her. She is earning praise for her performance in the new indie film, Immaculate. The performance reiterates the fact that Sweeney’s talents were wasted in the Dakota Johnson film. Some fans felt that Sweeney could have added a lot more to the character of Julia Cornwall aka Spider-Woman. These fans have hopeful news that the actress can still return to her role in a Spider-Man film.

A recent rumor suggested that Kevin Feige wanted to cast the actress in Marvel movies for a long time now. Sweeney earlier said yes to the possibility of appearing in Spider-Man but she had a condition for the same. She shared that wanted to share the screen with Zendaya in the film.

Actress Sydney Sweeney decided to play the Horror edition of F**k, Marry, Kill game with fellow actress Simona Tabasco in order to promote their 2024 movie Immaculate. The game gave Sweeney and Tabasco a wide variety of characters from popular horror movies and they had to decide who they wanted to f**k, marry or kill.

Judging by her choices, it seems like Sweeney is attracted to masked men as she chose to f**k Michael Meyers when she was asked to choose between Leatherface, Ghostface, and Michael Meyers. Earlier in the game, Tabasco and Sweeney agreed that they would have s*x with Jack Torrence from The Shining because they thought he was hot.

Earlier this month, we shared the news that Anchor Bay Entertainment – which used to be a major player in the horror world back in the late ’90s and early 2000s, when they gave DVD releases to films like the Evil Dead trilogy, George A. Romero’s Dead trilogy, the Sleepaway Camp franchise, The Hills Have Eyes, The Car, Maniac, Prom Night, some of the Hellraisers, Halloweens, and much more – is being revived, with their first two releases puppet horror film Abruptio and Dinner with Leatherface, a documentary that looks at the life, career, and legacy of original Leatherface actor Gunnar Hansen. Now we’ve learned that the new Anchor Bay has acquired the North American rights to the horror/comedy Crust, with the plan being to release it sometime later this year.

“The White Lotus” Season 3 has added Julian Kostov to its cast.
Kostov will appear in a recurring role in the HBO series that was previously held by Miloš Biković. Biković was recently cut from the series, however, over his support of Russia and Russian President Vladimir Putin in the country’s war against Ukraine.
“Today, a targeted campaign has been unleashed against me, seemingly as an external maneuver to influence decisions that can create a disturbing precedent shadowing the essence of artistic freedom,” Biković previously said in a statement. “The result of such a narrative is the triumph of absurdity and the defeat of art.”
Kostov joins previously announced Season 3 cast members: Leslie Bibb, Dom Hetrakul, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, Tayme Thapthimthong, Christian Friedel, Morgana O’Reilly, Lek Patravadi, Shalini Peiris, Carrie Coon, Francesca Corney, Nicholas Duvernay, Arnas Fedaravičius, Natasha Rothwell, Walton Goggins, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Aimee Lou Wood, Sarah Catherine Hook,...

Even outside of Star Wars, prequels tend to get a bad rap. From answering questions that didn’t need answering (and destroying the mysteries of the original in the process) to repeating established formulas ad nauseum, it’s deceptively easy for these blasts from the past to trip over their previously established lore. After all, it’s kind of hard to tell an engaging story when audiences already know what happens next.
Thankfully, the horror genre seems to be especially blessed with filmmakers that see prequels as an opportunity to tell original stories within an established world. I mean, some folks even thought that last year’s Pearl was even better than X, and the trailer for Arkasha Stevenson’s upcoming The First Omen looks like it kicks all kinds of ass – and that’s precisely why we’ve decided to come up with a list highlighting six underrated horror prequels for your viewing pleasure!

The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham was released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One back on August 18th, and today they’re not only adding a new map (free to all players) and a couple of new characters (players will have to pay to access them), but also rolling out a patch that will fix multiple issues and make some changes. The full list of fixes and changes can be found on the official website – but the change that is getting the most attention from fans is one making it so that matches no longer require the presence of Leatherface.
Here’s the description of the change:
Changed: Leatherface Requirement
We have removed the requirement for Leatherface in every match
This change does not affect anything other than the requirement

Today, November 28, brings the biggest update to Gun Interactive’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game to date. In addition to a new map, new survivor, and new family member, which will be available beginning 2pm Est today, we’re also getting a massive patch update that will fix around 250 different issues that have been causing problems for players.
One of the biggest ones? Leatherface will no longer be a required killer for a match to begin, a change that many players have spent the last several months begging for.
It may seem odd that a video game titled The Texas Chain Saw Massacre no longer requires Leatherface as a necessary component to a match, but the reality is that many players prefer to play as other characters such as The Cook, The Hitchhiker, and Johnny. And with so many players refusing to select Leatherface, it’s oftentimes difficult...

The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) was Written by Cody Hamman, Narrated by Adam Walton, Edited by Juan Jimenez, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
In 1974, director Tobe Hooper brought us The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. An independent production, shot in the heat of a Texas summer, that introduced us to a chainsaw-wielding cannibal called Leatherface. And his twisted family. It was a box office hit. And quickly became one of the most popular and respected horror films of all time. So, of course, there was eventually a remake. Produced by one of the biggest, flashiest filmmakers in the industry. Directed by a music video director in his feature debut. Starring an actress from a family friendly TV show. It sounds like a recipe for disaster. But when the remake was released in 2003, it was another success story.

As of this writing, there are nine movies in the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" series, and sussing out their chronology is one of the more herculean tasks a horror fan may find themselves undertaking. Like the "Halloween" movies, the "Texas Chainsaw" flicks abide by a choose-your-own-adventure structure, with some movies following a definite timeline, and others merrily ignoring previous chapters. Confoundingly, several of them have almost identical titles. The only consistent element of "Texas Chainsaw" is that they are all horrifically violent and unbearably disturbing. But, y'know, in a good way.
The premise of the "Texas Chainsaw" movies is simple. Thanks to rampant American poverty, entire families have been forced to live off the grid in remote, rural parts of the country. One of these families, largely inbred and blissfully detached from conventional morality, has taken to kidnapping passersby, stripping them for meat, and using their skin and bones as construction materials.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the last horror film from the filmmaking duo of Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo would be an adaptation of the Alexis Laipsker novel The Soul Eater (a.k.a. Le mangeur d’âmes), with Virginie Ledoyen (The Beach), Paul Hamy (The Ornithologist), and Sandrine Bonnaire (Women at War) taking on the lead roles. Now Deadline reports that WTFilms will be presenting The Soul Eater, which is currently in post-production, to potential buyers at the upcoming American Film Market. That presentation will include a screening of an early promo of the film. Along with that report comes the unveiling of a creepy first look image, which can be seen at the bottom of this article.

The wait is finally over for Gun Interactive’s first batch of Dlc for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, which sees the release of the game’s first cosmetic packs. That includes a new Leatherface outfit pack that features a new mask design by Greg Nicotero, a new saw design and sound, and a new universal kill that can be equipped to any Leatherface.
As Gun Interactive’s Wes Keltner explained previously, this new skin does not come with new abilities for Leatherface. Instead, it adds a new aesthetic to those who play as Leatherface. “It’s the same as the Pretty Woman or Old Lady skins for the base Lf. However, we did give this Lf a new saw with new recordings. It’s a deeper, growling saw that can be heard and identified immediately before you even see Lf.”
Meanwhile, there are six other cosmetic packs for players to choose from.

Director Tobe Hooper's 1974 low-budget feature "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" is not just loved by those who embrace the horror genre; it's one of the most cherished examples of truly independent cinema ever produced. Made for just tens of thousands of dollars, Hooper's film birthed a horror legend for the ages in Leatherface, as well as a franchise that is actually still going to this day. That franchise would hit its apex in 2003 with a gritty, bigger-budget remake of Hooper's iconic classic.
Oddly enough, it was "Armageddon" and "Bad Boys" director Michael Bay who got the ball rolling on "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" remake, a movie that might have seemed like sacrilege for those who cherished the original. But...

Despite being based on a fifty-year-old film, Gun Interactive’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has proven to be a bona fide hit, boasting over a million unique players during the first 24 hours of launch and being praised by critics as a more polished successor to their Friday the 13th adaptation. As a lifelong fan of the TCM franchise, I think this is amazing news, with the game’s popularity proving that there’s an active fanbase hungry for more Leatherface in popular media.
Of course, regardless of any initial success, the longevity of this new title depends on Gun’s commitment to regular updates – something that may be complicated by the fact that the developers have only managed to license the rights to the original 1974 film. With that in mind, we’ve decided to come up with a list highlighting six additions we’d love to see in future...

August 22nd marked the 37th anniversary of the release director Tobe Hooper‘s sequel to his 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. A sequel appropriately titled The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 (get it Here). Many fans celebrated the film with star Bill Moseley on social media – and the occasion inspired Moseley to reminisce about the moment when he ad-libbed one of the most popular lines in the film: “Lick my plate, you dog dick!”
In The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Moseley played the maniacal goofball Chop Top, who is revealed to have had a metal plate placed in his head after he received a head wound during the Vietnam War. He wrote on Facebook, “Damn, a whole lotta love for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 yesterday on the occasion of its 37th birthday! Love the movie, love the memories, love Chop Top! Kane Hodder is Jason Voorhees.
The famed stuntman played the hockey-masked slasher from "Friday VII" -- "Jason X," as well as the characterization in the "Friday the 13th" video game. Hodder elevated Jason to a veritable horror icon, which is why it was a devastating shock when Hodder wasn't cast in "Freddy vs Jason." Hodder spoke at length about the situation during the 2017 documentary "To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story," chronicling his career up until that point. Hodder had just finished "Jason X" when he was approached by someone at New Line Cinema for a lunch meeting, where he was given the script for "Freddy vs Jason" and informed that the movie was finally happening.
"I assumed at that time that meant I was doing the movie," he said. "You're giving me the script and saying 'We're finally doing this movie,' ... pretty sure thing in my mind.

Gun Interactive’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a celebration of its namesake’s franchise in more ways than one. For starters, eagle eyed fans will have noticed that its upcoming release date, August 18th, is the 50th anniversary of the events that take place in its inaugural film. You don’t need me to tell you the extent of Texas’ impact on the slasher genre and horror as a whole since then–its slew of sequels, the prominence of Leatherface, the entire population of chainsaw wielding scare actors in haunted attractions–speaks for itself. With that being said, Gun had big shoes to fill. But play one match of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and it’s plain to see: Gun was up to the task of doing the franchise justice in a fresh, unique way.

Los Angeles, Aug 3 (Ians) Following the massive success of ‘Scream VI’, ‘Scream VII’ is now in the works. But a new development has happened as the direction of the film has now changed hands, with director Christopher Landon taking charge of the project.
‘Scream VI’ was directed by the duo of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet, who following the movie’s great success both critically and commercially had hoped to direct a seventh one. While ‘Scream VII’ is indeed being made, Christopher Landon took charge as the duo stepped back due to focusing on making their untitled monster movie.
Landon is an accomplished director for his part to take charge of the franchise as his credit includes projects such as ‘Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones’, ‘Happy Death Day’ and ‘Freaky’ among others.

Released last year, Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre operated as a sequel to Tobe Hooper’s original classic, with Mark Burnham playing an older version of Leatherface. Shown off at San Diego Comic-Con this week, Hiya Toys is giving that particular iteration of the slasher icon his first action figures, with a few different toys based on the movie coming soon.
First up, Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘s Leatherface is getting a mini-sized 1/18 scale action figure as part of Hiya’s “Exquisite Mini” line, which measures just 4.72″ tall and features an impressive 15 points of articulation. As you may recall, this toy was actually first shown off last year, but the planned April 2023 release date was ultimately shifted back a little bit.
Leatherface from the Netflix movie is also getting a bloody variant of the “Exquisite Mini” figure, which features Melody’s decapitated head from the movie’s bloody final moments!

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham is set to be released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One on August 18th. The perfect date, since director Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (watch it Here) was set on August 18, 1973. The social media profiles for the game have given us the heads-up that outlets are going to start taking pre-orders for physical copies of the game soon (for the suggested price of $39.99) – and they have also posted clips of gameplay that show us the special skills that can be used by the killer characters Johnny and Sissy.
While the game features the homicidal characters from the original Chainsaw film, newly created characters Johnny and Sissy were also added into the mix to give players more options.
Matches of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game will pit 4 victim characters against 3 killer characters.

Regan’s head turning in The Exorcist; Michael Myers emerging from behind the hedges in Halloween; that decapitation in The Omen. Certain scenes will always be morbidly burned into the brains of horror fans. But after the lights go up, and credits roll, audiences return home, safe in the knowledge that their doors are locked. Yet 15 years ago, an all too real nightmare shattered those illusions of safety as audiences met The Strangers, with one scene standing above all others.
Nihilistic, tense, and terrifying, Bryan Bertino’s home invasion horror preyed on a chilling primal fear: What if we’re not alone in the house? Bloody Disgusting has learned about a brand new documentary titled Dinner with Leatherface, which looks at the life, legacy, and career of the late horror icon Gunnar Hansen.
The release of Dinner with Leatherface is scheduled for this October to coincide with the 50th anniversary theatrical release of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
Gunnar Hansen is of course best known for his portrayal of the terrifying, chainsaw-wielding Leatherface in the classic horror film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974).
Directed by Michael Kallio, the documentary will feature interviews with several of Hansen’s friends and colleagues, including fellow actors Bruce Campbell, Barbara Crampton, Kane Hodder, and Brian O’Halloran. The film will also include many in-depth interviews with his co-stars from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, as well as the film’s cinematographer Daniel Pearl and screenwriter Kim Henkel.

French filmmaking duo Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, best known for their ultra-violent slasher Inside and aquatic haunted house tale The Deep House, are tackling an adaptation of the grisly thriller The Soul Eater by Alexis Laipsker.
Maury announced on Instagram that production has officially begun on The Soul Eater, the seventh feature film for Maury and Bustillo. Author Laipsker also took to Twitter to share that production is now underway, along with artwork that teases an ominous tone below.
The novel’s official synopsis indicates another bloody genre film for the filmmakers:
“‘He didn’t scream. They never scream.’ Some well-kept secrets sometimes turn out to be too heavy to bear. When the disappearance of children and bloody murders multiply uneventfully in a small mountain village, an old legend shrouded in sulfur resurfaces. Urged on by their respective departments, Commander Guardiano and Captain of the Gendarmerie De Rolan are...
