Murder under the Surgeon's knife
Sleepin_Dragon27 August 2018
This is a very different episode. The team are called in to check over a suspicious suicide, but Poole's curious knowledge of quality teas convinces him that murder is afoot. It is so clever, tightly written.

This is a great mix of humour and drama, unlike later seasons the laughs were genuine and well woven in, at no time did it feel like the cast were sending the show up. The ball throwing moment was perhaps a little far fetched, but funny.

Very well acted once again, special mention to Cherie Lunghi, very charismatic, very glamorous. The chemistry between Poole and Camille is great once again.

No wonder millions love it.

Warning: Spoilers
A private cosmetic clinic for rich important and influential clients, including the police Commissioner.

A woman patient is found dead in the Clinic swimming pool apparently of suicide, but Richard considers her death is suspicious.

The clinic its head surgeon, personel and surgical procedures, are not exactly as they may appear at first sight. Are they hiding dark and devious secrets?

Solid enough!

Warning: Spoilers
The second season of "Death in Paradise" has started like the first for me- up and down. "Death in The Clinic" is a solid episode, but far from show's best.

Let's start with good, shall we?

. The production values are great as usual. The direction's smooth and the music fits the scenery like always. The acting's enjoyable too. James Fleet is particularly good.

. The murder mystery did mostly engage. The story does have some clever twists and turns. Some of the humor's quirky, the solution to "Death in The Clinic" was mostly satisfying, even though the identity of the killer was not the hardest one to guess.

But...

. There are certain clues in this episode that were very obvious to me. Especially the syringe and one Doctor gets calls every once in a while-ones. They are the clues, which lead to the killer...

. There were moments in "Death in The Clinic" that were way too far-fetched. The surgery scene was cringe-worthy in its unreality and the ball-throwing moment indeed too good to be true.

Overall, solid, but not a strong episode.

Guest starring Cherie Lunghi

Warning: Spoilers
Death in the Clinic has Cherie Lunghi guest starring, and she certainly does much to life the standard of this episode from season two. By now, on reflection, I guess that Ben Miller must have been contemplating whether to continue as DI Richard Poole, and sadly he left at the beginning of season three which is a shame. In my humble opinion, he was the best DI, and I can say that having been a fan of Death of Paradise since it debuted over a decade ago. Anyway, I enjoy seeing the guest stars, especially the famous ones. I'd like to see Danny Dyer, Dani Dyer, Sigourney Weaver (she was in Doc Martin), Sharon Stone, Michael Caine.
