Fourteen seasons is a good run

A few years ago I found a way to go back is time and watch the origins of NCIS Los Angeles, and it was refreshing to see how the original cast was presented. Anyone who watched from the beginning or near the beginning knows there are some faces gone as well as faces new over the years. It's bound to happen, sometimes because actors tire of the routine, or tragically die and must be written out of the show.

Viewers don't necessarily like it, but it happens. Life goes on and NCIS L A is no exception. Right now, Callan is missing. Where is Callan? One of the two originals from the beginning and he is missing in action with not a lot of explanation. Hetty is also gone.

Anyway here we are with the most recent episode. I thought it was fairly well done in spite of Callan's absence. I know I am maybe the exception with the critics, but I enjoyed the show. Was the Admiral in error about boxing in a Marine match? Maybe, but I don't care. The show had a lot of character involvement and a lot of action.

Still a pretty good show and I will miss it when it is gone...

Another military reference mistake
spencer-matthew21 March 2023
Admiral Kilbride makes reference to being on the Marine Corps boxing team, during the Vietnam War, on the USS Iwo Jima. If the writers did their research or asked a military consultant for assistance they would know that the Marine Corps does not have Admirals. Admirals are in the Navy and Coast Guard so how exactly was the Admiral on the Marine Corps boxing team? Was he prior enlisted? I guess it's plausible to start off as an enlisted Marine during the Vietnam War, rise through the ranks, transfer to the Navy and reach the rank of Admiral. It would be a rare achievement but it could happen. I just wish.

"The Other Shoe"

Warning: Spoilers
Sam goes undercover as a fighter to uncover a drug dealing ring. If ever there was an undercover role tailormade for the hulking former SEAL, it is that of a fighter.

The drug ring angle gave us one final serving (I assume) of Karina Logue's LAPS Detective Whiting, who has been a great guest character and it also allows everyone to find out a little more about Admiral Kilbride's son.

The softening of the irascible admiral continues and it is nice to see that he is something more than a one-dimensional character, which he often can be perceived as, given his trademark grumpiness.

Episodes are running out, and still no Hetty sighting. They barely mention her anymore. Not getting my hopes up for a cameo.

Read His Ribbons...

Admiral Kilbride was an enlisted Marine in Vietnam. Got selected to go to the Naval Academy. Became an Ensign, then a SEAL. Look closer before becoming a critic...and look for his USMC Good Conduct Medal (ribbon). But...thanks for your interest and watching!

A lot of attention went into "Mac's" background, to include he fit the profile of a real former Admiral who commanded "NIS", the predecessor to NCIS. This is dignified by the round plaque on the bookcase to viewers left of his desk. Mac played Major Dad a long time ago...and creating a legend and backstory that paid tribute to his Marine Corps time was a privilege!

Warning: Spoilers
"The Other Shoe" is another example of a ridiculous NCIS: Los Angeles off the books mission. Where are these underground fights that shows like this seem to have so often? Only on TV I guess.

Good to see WWE's Sheamus get a guest starring spot, but not much depth to the character.

The story here tonight was just really dull and uninspiring and even the fight scenes did not really get me to care.

They keep teasing the reunion betwen Kilbride and his son, and I guess Callen's wedding, but to be honest this final season is turning into a big huge bust and hard to argue anything other than that.
