Season review - a step down but worth a fast watch

Warning: Spoilers
It's a step down from season 1 and 2 for sure. Quite a significant one.

In season 1 Joe Schmo never had a clue. He was a clueless ham and didn't question anything. Even when that Black woman was voted out and put on some horrible acting he was only thinking about how she voted for him. He just wasn't smart enough to figure it out and didn't have a need to because it was a Big Brother type show where you are constantly busy making agreements and creating groups to vote out other people. Unfortunately Joe Schmo himself was a tad creepy and made some weird remarks towards women and acted sleazy. I don't think he himself made the show better as he was hitting on models while being overweight. He was the only Joe Schmo who was desperate for everything. He had a minimum wage job and lived with his parents and his girlfriend had broken up with him. So he was just desperate to get a girlfriend and even desperate to get a career in Hollywood. But of course he didn't have the wits or charisma to make it so it was a giant disaster for him afterwards. He thought he had finally made it big and started dreaming of models and parties, but only got the parties and wasted all his winnings and quit Hollywood. There are bigger and better people in Hollywood.

Season 2 was better. But I understand people who like season 1 more as it was more natural and shocking with much better acting. Season 2 had a very attractive Jane Schmo who was about to start working in a very nice job. And Joe Schmo was also from a good family and had everything he needed. His girlfriend dumped him when he went on this fake dating show. So neither really needed the money or the partner. Jane figured the show out pretty fast because she didn't want or need to play the game and had energy to spare on being critical. This made the whole event quite fun. But the dating aspect was fishy as faking love for a TV show is a bit much. And not having them scheme outside competitive events gave them a ton of free time and energy to figure it out.

Season 3 is by far the worst one for sure. That's quite clear. It's just overproduced. We get short clips of events and A TON of fast cuts everywhere with stuff just being mixed together. It is a reality show now instead of being a parody. We even have a producer talking about the scenes instead of actors. Clearly this guy is wearing the same clothes in all his scenes where he talks about the events that are about to happen and the production room also looks like it's filmed in one day. Basically I think this was filmed post the show and plastered in and the actor talking heads were removed for some reason. Which made it all seem fake and forced. Maybe Joe became too critical and they couldn't use natural scenes? The actors and producers did mess up quite a lot here because it's so rushed. In season 2 Jane figured the show out because when a helicopter flew by they had to refilm a scene and all the actors were doing it on the spot with no issues instead of trying to act like they couldn't act or at least were confused about repeating natural lines. Nope, they did exactly the same in the new scene straight away clearly showing they were not just random people doing their very first fake scene ever. The producers wanted to rush scenes and it became clear to Jane this was too fake. As she didn't need the money or the date she was focusing on not being made fun off in the TV show as she was a young very self-conscious blonde.

In this season Joe is writing a diary revealing that he thinks many of the people are actors. Again the producers messed up quite a bit. In one scene a prisoner escapes. But they let Joe go up to the window and investigate it all himself and he sees that there is a ton of crew outside the window making it clear that no prisoner could have hid there. They could have stopped him, but just never got to it. They also hired a hearing woman to play a deaf woman. Of course when there is a big bang she reacts to it - it's quite natural and you can't control it. She is the most attractive woman in these 3 seasons, but they should have casted a deaf woman and given her another role. I mean, she was really great in the role, but you can't keep it up 24/7 when living in a house with someone who is constantly judging competitors. I don't think any actor would pull this off for this long without any mistakes. At any rate many mistakes came from producer errors like having another actor pop a champagne bottle at the table with a loud bang and stressing her out so much with various challenges that she got tired and slipped up at times. But the biggest error is just how fake it all looks. They edit their way around everything and constantly repeat scenes and shots to stretch out the runtime. That's the big mistake. If the runtime was 1 hour shorter overall they could have removed all this extra stuff. Maybe I watched a bad version? Maybe there is a better DVD version out there without all this extra fluff where they repeat scenes? I can't answer this I can only say the version I watched was butchered by the producers. But Joe was great and natural and ridiculously strong so he was a top tier competitor. He was also married to a very attractive woman so he wasn't a giant sleaze bag and let the attractive women in the house be themselves. So yeah, a shame the actors got very little to do here and had to ham it up when they finally were allowed to act. The producers took control with talking heads and constant stuff happening. Season 1 had them live together and play together so the actors were acting all the time. Season 2 had more big acting scenes as they were hanging out together. Here they never really just hang out. The cameras are in their face and visible and the producers don't left them rest. Which means the humorous scenes are forced by created gags instead of just letting them sit around and let humor appear naturally like in season 1 and to some degree season 2. Yet because the idea is so amazing even season 3 is for sure worth a watch if you have the time for it. But I would say season 1 and 2 are more required watches while this one is just another reality show not really a parody. They just seemingly cut together different days into episodes. So many reaction shots, interviews, and events are just produced. It didn't really happen that way. They do use real scenes most of the time, but it's presented in a fake way and out of order.
