Fantastic!
npvarley14 January 2024
This has to be one of the best series finales for any TV series, ever. It is just fantastic.

At 1hr 18m, it's almost movie length, but there is a lot to cover in the allotted time.

They resolve all the outstanding issues perfectly, with style and finesse and none of them are rushed. The episode has a really good flow to it.

The CGI works great and the soundtrack is banging, especially using M83's Midnight City for the time jump/end credits.

It also ended on a very positive note and really sets up the next season (they'd better renew it, or there'll be trouble!

It's really worth having Apple TV+ just for For All Mankind!

Brace for Impact! "Perestroika" Explodes With a Season-Ending Bang!
tsukeyomi11 February 2024
Oh. My. Gordo! For All Mankind, you glorious spacefaring beast, you just delivered a season finale that sent my emotions rocketing faster than a Jupiter Direct launch! "Perestroika" wasn't just good, it was a supernova of storytelling, detonating plot twists, character arcs, and sheer awesomeness across the Earth-Mars spectrum.

From the nail-biting tension of the Goldilocks mission to the Earth-shattering political fallout, this episode had me glued to the screen like EVA velcro. The writers masterfully weaved personal struggles with global ramifications, leaving me cheering for my favorite characters one moment and gasping in shock the next.

Speaking of characters, let's talk about development! Ed Baldwin finally confronted his demons (and Dev!), while Margo Madison proved once again why she's the ultimate boss lady. Danielle Poole's journey was particularly poignant, reminding us that even in the vast expanse of space, human connection remains paramount.

But enough about individuals, let's talk about the universe! The cliffhanger ending had me jumping for joy (and maybe a little fear?). The potential ramifications are mind-blowing, and I can't wait to see where the writers take us next.

And production, oh production! The visuals were stunning, the score epic, and the acting top-notch. Every scene felt like a cinematic spectacle, transporting me to the dusty plains of Mars and the bustling halls of NASA.

In conclusion, "Perestroika" was a triumphant culmination of everything I love about For All Mankind. It was thrilling, emotional, thought-provoking, and left me desperately wanting more. To the creators, cast, and crew: please, for the love of all that is spacefaring, don't let this journey end! We need at many more seasons to explore the wonders and pitfalls that await humanity amongst the stars!

Rating: 10 out of 10 light-years traveled (plus an extra point for sheer awesomeness!)

P. S. Did I mention I loved it? Because I REALLY loved it!

One of the all time best finales

Warning: Spoilers
I was in complete suspense the entire episode not knowing what was going to happen. Sure there was a good chance that the asteroid would be kept around Mars orbit but you never know........outstanding effects as always and a great suspenseful fight out in space. My heart skipped a beat when that person was shot and again the outcome was not so predictable whether they would survive. I clapped several times during the proceedings and that was a beautiful ending. My only nitpick was they left it up on the air as to what happened to the rebellious personnel. Looking forward to S5 but if it ends here then it had a satisfactory end.

Bookend music for final episode! 10 star

Just wanted to congratulate on the 2 songs book ending this final episode, especially the final song.

Love the series and cannot wait for the next chapter, Although I missed Karen and Molly in this series it's was still as good as previous series, Long may it continue.

Ed again was awesome and I'm so thankful you didn't write him out during this season even though his story line is getting a little thin these days.

Like I said series is brilliant and I was only made aware of this series once season 3 had finished, but it kind of helped as I could bing watch all the series and it ended only 3 weeks short of season 4 coming out so weirdly panned out well for me.

science fiction at its best
nerrdrage13 January 2024
It's depressing to see a top notch series like this garner no reviews here while far inferior shows (like Apple's Monarch, ugh) get tons.

This episode is a perfect example of why For All Mankind is among the best series on Apple or anywhere. The whole season leads up to this one explosive finale, with three different groups vying to control the fate of the Goldilocks asteroid.

The episode cuts back and forth between the schemes and counter-schemes and wild card maneuvers so that the outcome is always in question, right up to the end.

One thing I've been missing this season is the hair-raising outer space action but this episode has a fight on the outside of a space station, scarily close to powerful engines that can disintegrate you on contact.

Season finale is always a thriller
caitlinc-5613412 January 2024
Each season finale truly has you on the edge of your seat. I watched the episode 2 hours, maybe less, after it was released on the platform. I would recommend any space enthusiast to watch this series. It has a nice balance of drama, science, and thrill.

It was nice to see that story arcs of beloved characters come full circle. The creators of the show do an excellent job of keeping the characters true to themselves -even after seasons of disappointment (no spoilers in this review I promise)

One thing I will mention is the repeated themes of security authority in space. While it's unfortunately realistic to imagine that governments would have detailed security personnel and weapons with new space exploration, it's never a good idea.

Hard to jump the shark at this point
mesaxi14 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I still enjoy For All Mankind, but I was hoping that this would be the last season. Unfortunately it wound to a sort of a conclusion that didn't really tell you what happened to anyone. A conspiracy to disrupt a trillion dollar project funded by several nations is going to warrant some repercussions. They left everything open ended so they can figure out what they want to have happened between the seasons. There were only "endings" given to Margot, Lee, Danielle, and maybe Dev. I'd like to know what happened with Ed, did Kelly know what he was up to? How about Lee, who assaulted a North Korean officer? Massey and Palmer were trying to kill each other, what about that? Why wasn't there a moment where Danielle realized she'd crossed a line calling in the DOJ and allowing men to be tortured by a guy with a bad tupe? A lot was left unaddressed.

Jumped the shark
jxsmith-3987615 January 2024
I know that space travel is meant to be much more common in this universe, but realistically there would still be literally millions of applicants for relatively few positions. The result is that these people should still be the best of the best, not the incompetent idiots that are portrayed here. I'm sure any real NASA employees watching this just found it embarrassing.

The show started with such promise, but as each season has needed to up the ante, it has become more over the top & silly. This review was penned at the end of season 4 & things are now so improbable as to destroy any suspension of disbelief.

Season 4 review
Chef7413 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
First the positive: After beating the dead horse with identity and other politics in the first 3 seasons finally they had a chance to show average person's struggles. Workers want better pay, Big Space wants to count pennies while awarding bonuses, union attempts, strikes, greed by Martian settlers and Earth people. Overall more relatable. My complaints are a lot. The scenes are too long in most cases. I know slow burn, but some scenes were outright boring. I looked for 2x speed button on Apple TV. As another reviewer mentioned, they have taken the most phycologically unstable people to Mars. You would expect that they would find more suitable people out of 6 billion people (6 billion figure is from the series). They even took a sick child to a space journey whom they feed with peanut butter. As Babushka said, PBJ is not lunch.

The sci-fi movies that change one thing and keep everything else always bothered me. So 40 years of tech improvements in space exploration and related side industries and none of that tech trickled down to the other parts of the life? They are still waiting for Steve Jobs to invent iPhone in 2006? It is a bit weird. The people also act like they just teleported to this alternate reality and tring to adapt. 40 years of progress at that scale would change people a lot.

Overall it is a watchable season.

Season Four - ugh
pdjbmzbz30 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Season four in general was pretty much a bore with the Norma Rae workers rights story line and the 'excitement' of asteroid mining (yawn), but it did have a potential interesting storyline with Margo adapting to the USSR...until they blew that at the end

But this last episode where by the end, almost the entire main cast is behind the asteroid hijacking that is quite frankly, ridiculously selfish. Oh Ed is sick of earth so it's ok to steal an asteroid so that Mars continues to be relevant but now a MUCH more costly endeavor that requires even more resources to keep going.

It also doesn't help that Joel Kinnaman's makeup and acting older is horrible. It reminds me of his tweaking days on The Killing. The other 'older' characters look appropriate and are being portrayed much better.

Looks like we have more mining fun for season five however I may have to jump off. I'll check out the first episode and make the call. Such a shame as this was one of my favorite series.

Should have been over by now
lakings9725 March 2024
For All Mankind: Season Four continues the storyline of the global space race on Mars. The timeline is sped up to 2003 and we see Ed and Dani up against each other but on friendlier terms. Ed is now in his 70's and has made Mars his home. Following the bombing of the Johnson Space Center it was believed Margaret had perished but this season she is alive and well in Russia under Gorbachev 's regime. Al Gore is the current President and the whole premise is to capture an asteroid that might be worth trillions of dollars. Much like Expanse series there is a divisional and cultural problem between Earth and Mars colony. Although the stories are similar I would have thought this season would have been better. The script was solid but the acting and direction could have been, I am sure there will be another season in the making. Let's see where next season will lead to the colony on the asteroid.

This was a fun and optimistic escape... until it wasn't
dannelson-5877426 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
What a disappointing end to a show that had so much promise.

The alternative history was so much fun because it imagined a future and trajectory of humanity that was different from the direction we went; more idealistic, internationally collaborative, and full of more possibility than the earth today.

But instead they make the asshole capitalists and space cowboys the heroes and ruin the trajectory (a little joke for those who have seen the show) of human history. We get too much of this predictable disappointment in real life, and this was a great way to imagine something different... until it wasn't.

Seasons 1 and 2 are fun. 3 jumped shark pretty hard with the space pregnancy and season 4 payoff is one of the most idiotic and disappointing payoffs in recent memory. Really hope this doesn't get anymore episodes.
