Ian McShane is 81, but you’d never know it watching him in “American Star.”
Also a producer of director Gonzalo López-Gallego’s new film, the English actor plays Wilson, a seasoned assassin who visits the Canary Islands’ Fuerteventura for a job, but instead unexpectedly becomes involved in the life of a French expatriate (Nora Arnezeder) and the lonely child of a vacationing couple (Oscar Coleman). From the first scene, McShane dances across the screen with the same effortlessness of a performer a quarter of his age, as his character reckons with an escalating series of disruptions to a sequence of events whose outcome is inevitable: someone dying of a bullet from his gun.
Though he’s been working in film, TV and theater for more than six decades, McShane has become well known in America largely in the last two, playing mentors and authority figures on series like “Deadwood” and “American Gods,...

What is it? A one-armed man arrives via train in a remote western town, and the populace reacts with suspicion and violence.
Why buy it? Spencer Tracy excels as the polite but mysterious stranger whose presence sets everyone on edge, and the more he probes the harder they push. The film explores threads of America’s deep-seated racism and small-town insulation, and it pairs that commentary with a steadily increasing suspense. The themes and actions here are still sadly relevant, even now, and it makes for an important watch that still manages to entertain. While doing promo for his upcoming project The Hollow Point, Patrick Wilson was a guest on ABC Radio's Gma After Hours and spoke about why he decided to the play Aquaman’s villainous half-brother, Orm – a.k.a. Ocean Master in the upcoming DC Film.
“What’s gonna be interesting is there hasn’t been the technology to back up the storytelling, I guess, for Aquaman. Until now. And for me, of course, I’m completely biased with James Wan, who I’ve done four films with — knowing that he’s at the helm and knowing what he … can do and what he will do, I’ll do anything with him.”
Wilson added:
“I think the lure of Aquaman [is] because he hasn’t been overexposed on screen. And I don’t know Jason (Momoa) — I can’t wait to meet him. I was a huge fan even from the first episode of Game of Thrones,...

The Conjuring's Patrick Wilson was recently added to the cast of Aquaman, and in an interview with Wbt to promote the release of The Hollow Point, the actor talked for the first time about taking on the role of Ocean Master. He obviously didn't provide any specifics, but expressed his excitement to star in a movie which will utilise groundbreaking technology to take the action into the depths of Atlantis. "What's gonna be interesting is there hasn't been the technology to back up the storytelling, I guess, for Aquaman," Wilson said, adding: "until now." As for what it will be like to reunite with director James Wan, the actor went on to explain that's a big part of why he joined the DC Comics movie. "And for me, of course, I'm completely biased with James Wan, who I've done four films with -- knowing that he's at the helm...

There has been a renaissance of great B-movie westerns of late; this year gave us Ti West’s genre bender “In A Valley Of Violence,” and last year S. Craig Zahler‘s (side-splittingly?) unforgettable “Bone Tomahawk.” Similarly, the Southwest has served as the setting for a handful of timely border-related thrillers (“Sicario” being the best of them). It’s natural, then, that a film would come along and meld the two together: a modern-day smuggling drama hitched with the dusty small town, the greedy business tycoon, and the tired sheriff of the western.

Given all the political chatter about border control in this year’s *historic* Us presidential election, The Hollow Point stays savagely on-topic. Granted, most American citizens aren’t involved with ammo-running across country lines, but cartels are no joke – and neither is Gonzalo López-Gallego’s country-fried thriller. Social struggles tie weapons smuggling to impoverished Southern entrepreneurs, inviting boogeymen of Mexican descent to punish those who choose greed over safety. It’s a western standoff brought upon by evil, wicked men, all in the name of brutal consequence. Thugs living by a corrupt code, who we join just as bullet-slinging chickens come home to roost.
Patrick Wilson stars as the local sheriff of some forgotten U.S./Mexico border town, whose citizens are about to pay for a cartel deal gone wrong. Ken Mercey (David H. Stevens) was supposed to supply his contact with a surplus of ammunition, but his brother...

Vanity Fair has premiered the first trailer for “Toni Erdmann,” one of the standout premieres at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Initially considered a potential frontrunner for the Palme d’Or, Maren Ade’s hilarious (but ultimately quite bittersweet) film eventually left the Croisette empty-handed — other than the near-universal praise with which it was met. Watch the trailer below.

Peter Simonischek and Sandra Hüller star as a German father and daughter whose cordial relationship comes to a head when he drops in on her in Bucharest for an unannounced extended visit and his affinity for practical jokes wears on her more straitlaced sensibilities. It’s pure slapstick at times, but over the film’s 162-minute runtime (which, imposing as it may sound, doesn’t feel long enough) their strained dynamic comes to the fore.

The Hollow Point trailer has Ian McShane and Patrick Wilson as small town sheriffs under siege from a killer cartel conspiracy.
The trailer for the action thriller The Hollow Point seems to represent a slow, but steady topical trend in entertainment as the U.S.-Mexico border becomes more of an omnipresent subject, especially in the wake of election year politics. However, unlike another upcoming border-centric entry in Desierto, the central conflict of this film – pitting a pair of overwhelmed small town sheriffs against cartel ammo smugglers – seems to be fought on sides more conventionally delineated.
From the outset, the trailer for The Hollow Point showcases a land-scorched scenario in a desert town on the border who find themselves the centre of a clandestine deal with a Mexican drug cartel involving ammunition – namely loads of hollow-point bullets (designed to shred on impact,) to be smuggled into Mexico to arm some not-so-nice folks.

Patrick Wilson isn't known for starring in westerns, but with last year's Bone Tomahawk and now a new film coming out called The Hollow Point, maybe he should continue to explore those kinds of roles. This movie puts him at odds with Deadwood star Ian McShane in a story of gun running over the border between the U.S. and Mexico, and there's also some kind of badass mega assassin played by John Leguizamo who's out to kill them. This looks like an excellent VOD rental to me.
This one arrives on December 16, 2016, going up against Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (good luck with that, guys).

"The real concern here is - what's going to happen if this bullet don't make its destination." Vertical Ent. has debuted an official trailer for a crime thriller titled The Hollow Point, set in a small town along the U.S. & Mexico border. Patrick Wilson plays a new sheriff in the town, but things get go from bad to worse when the cartel starts hitting back. The cast includes Ian McShane, Lynn Collins, John Leguizamo, Jim Belushi, Michael Flynn and Derek Boone. This looks gritty and violent, hopefully with some good twists in it. Leguizamo looks gnarly as a bad guy, but the fight between Wilson and McShane seems the most interesting. This looks like a much more violent, totally brutal version of Sicario focused on the local cops. Here's the first official trailer for Gonzalo López-Gallego's The Hollow Point, originally from Yahoo: After being involved in fatal run-in with a gun smuggler,...

Somewhere in the interim, however, he seems to have strayed from the path (likely down to scheduling clashes with his awesome TV series Justified), and the news this morning is that he'll now be replaced in the "visceral thriller" by the equally excellent Patrick Wilson. The story, which sounds very much like a modern-day Western, involves a botched Mexican cartel deal on the back streets of a Us border town. Newly-appointed Sheriff Wilson teams up with his predecessor to take down the bad guys and clean up the town.Nils Lyew wrote the screenplay, and the director is Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego, who recently completed Open Grave with Sharlto Copley (the trailer for which just went online). The film is now headed to the American Film Market for some more deal-brokering,...
