The 5 bad writers
Rob-O-Cop20 December 2023
After a few actually quite good episodes amongst the wrong side of history rant ruts this show has gotten itself into we're back to full personal attack garbage this week.

Who ever pitched this episode's take down of Musk is ruining a potentially quite entertaining show. Oliver is pretty good at delivering any material he's given, so it's really down to the material to make or break the show and this week, it wasn't good.

It was obviously someone's personal gripe they felt they had the right to air to us, and really, the show has proved it's better when it stays away from this stuff, it's not fun or entertaining to watch a bunch of smug Brooklyn loft dwellers trash hit target of the moment people, even if they are reprehensible, but so often history has proven this shows 'fashionable' choices to be wrong, so maybe just stick to the broad topics?

Interestingly we got some insight into the anonymous writing team when Oliver told us they missed a few shows this year because their writing team of 13 went on strike and they truly and sincerely missed 8 of them. I'm hoping the 5 that weren't missed were the people who write the partisan attack pieces and that Oliver is aware that they deliver him the bad stuff. There's obviously people on the team that can and do deliver good content, and very funny stuff too, take for example the McKinsey episode or last weeks trains one.

The writers aren't listed per episode on IMDb so we can't see who's delivering the bad, but they did put up a photo of them and just by looking at them you could see at least 5 people you'd avoid at a party. Let's hope they have the guts to downsize the writing team next year. A very mixed and not very entertaining year for this show, but kind of expected with the previous years effort.
