Felt Like the Golden Age
e_daneva9 April 2024
Night of the Living Wage is an amazing Season 35 Simpsons episode. With the last 3 episodes being a bit disappointing, I was pleasantly surprised that this one was really good. First off, this episode was really really funny. It had some amazing jokes that really just reminded me of the sharp writing of the Golden Age of the show. This episode just had this great jokes that really blew me away with how intelligent and hilarious they were. Unlike all the other Marge episodes, this is a more light hearted episode instead of an episode that really expands Marge's character. I like when the Simpsons expands on there characters, mostly when that character is slightly more into the background than others, but it's fun to watch a hilariously funny Simpsons episode, even if it doesn't expand anyone's character. Well, I guess it expanded Marge's character, but it felt a little too lighthearted to really expand her character. I felt like Marge felt very connected to the Union, and the Union felt very connected to her, and that's what I like about them. They just make the episode better, because throughout the episode I know that the union will always be on her back, no matter what, and that just gives me a sense of comfort. You could see that the union cares about her and will make sure she is part of it. I like how instead of just backing down, everyworker in this episode just stood up to the Yipee Chow company, whatever it's called, and made sure they were treated equally. That's what I like about all unions and protects. That those people aren't afraid to back down. Also, I loved the ending. I think it expanded on Homer's and Marge character just a little bit. It might have not expanded on Homer's character, but who knows? Homer officialy stopped strangling Bart ( Thank Goodness 😙😙) this season so maybe his character can evolve to become an even better father and a person. Anyway, since this episode was so good, I'm really excited for the next episode, the Cremains of the Day, on April 21st. I'll make sure I write a review for it shortly after the episode is aired and I've watched it, so if you want to you can check that out in a couple weeks. In all though, I give this episode a 8.5 out of 10.

Baffling, bizarre, and lacking any substantial bite.

Warning: Spoilers
Baffling, bizarre, and lacking any substantial bite. I was genuinely curious how the writers would deliver a positive outcome for the characters in this episode, given recent events in cities that have artificially raised the cost of food delivery companies by mandating increases. In mid-January of 2024 in Seattle, such an ordinance led to some drivers making half of what they were before the wage increase, due to reduced orders overall. When the costs of using the service increased, people used less of it (shocker). This hurt the drivers the most, the very people the ordinance was theoretically supposed to help.

Marge intends to raise the costs dramatically for GimmeChow, The CEO retaliates by using "robot cooks" in his ghost kitchen and drones to make the deliveries. The commentary on A. I. replacing workers is topical and almost accurately applied, but Homer has a Deus Ex Machina that wipes out all the tech in the city, allowing Marge and her union brethren to somehow all keep their jobs with all demands met. The service's consumers are portrayed as lazy and selfish, but the price of the product for consumers is never so much as mentioned as a consideration.

The economic understanding in this episode is pedestrian, woefully uninformed of current events, and it suffered as a result of it. There was an opportunity for some real biting commentary on consumption and the *actually* reckless practices of the large corporations, but the episode stopped short at "capitalism make bad billionaire. Union make justice happy people."

Springfield USA still uses Five Dollars for Minium Wage
brettw-665468 April 2024
The reason Springfield never increase Minium wage because due to a lack of fundings and their school system barley gets an upgrade. Marge has work in various jobs but didn't make enough money because Springfield don't get part time workers good pay because Mayor Quimby is a lazy democrat who doesn't really care about handling the towns budget over dumb things even their own bosses' hogs everybody's money so this is why Springfield is still paying Five Dollars an jour for Minium Wages, even exciting and cool jobs don't get them paid enough so that's the reason why there only minor characters and rarely amount of random people living in Springfield in 2024.
